Last Notes npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute Sunset last night at Beavertail Light. #sunset #drones4fun #photography #rhodeIsland https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/480/166/796/719/877/original/d7c52ba3e2bbf4ae.png npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1v6q…a0a4 That was where I learnt the importance of checking the wind. My flight out was quick, but the flight back was very slow, and I worried if I'd make it back to shore before the battery died. npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1rh0…sjsf This one is harder than I'm prepared to deal with at 03:30. There are people much better at this than I, that would have had it sooner. You may have given me a red herring with the Cayuna hashtag, since I've ruled out most of the lakes around there. npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1rh0…sjsf More seriously, having seen how crazy good at geolocating photos some people are, I've taken to always assuming any photo I post can be geolocated, even with the location data stripped our. So I just pretend all my photos have the location embedded, and use that as part of my decision to post. npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1rh0…sjsf Darn! You were about 20 metres south of where I estimated. npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1rh0…sjsf I'm pretty confident of the line you were on. My only question was whether this was shot with the wide angle or mild telephoto lens. If I really wanted to be precise I'd print it and that calipers and protractors to it, but I'll just eyeball it an guess you were pretty much on the line segment running north from the building in the forground, about where it intersects the shoreline of the unnamed body of water behind the drone. npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1rh0…sjsf If you must know, my first stop was Apple Maps. I didn't need a second stop. :) Bellingcat (They went from Twitter to Bluesky, mostly) occassionally does explainers or challenges for geolocating photos that are a lot harder than this. npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1rh0…sjsf I didn't take coordinates from the picture. I just used the visual information presented, and some OSINT techinques. npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1rh0…sjsf The obvious answer would be Deerwood, but it's so obvious that I suspected a trick question. I geolocated the photo, and it is Deerwood. Your drone was just east of Archibald Rd (Rt 6 and 210). Reno Lake is in the background of the picture, and the much larger Serpent Lake is just off frame to the right (west). npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1rh0…sjsf If the weather and my schedule give me a reasonable chance of flying the next day, I'll put the batteries on the charger the night before, so they're ready in the morning. I do think DJI could do better at calling out how unusual a 100W USB-C power supply is. Yes, you can get them, but they're not the norm, and anyone just grabbing a USB-C charger my end up with something much less powerful. Do you know about the battery holders accumulation trick? npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1rh0…sjsf The Air 3 batteries do take long to charge. A bit over an hour each, if they're pretty depleted, I find. Part of the problem is that DJI doesn't include a power supply, so you're a bit at the mercy of whatever you're using, and most USB-C chargers really don't put out that much power. With a reputable 100 W power supply, it's not terrible. DJI has been criticized for not including a power supply, though this way, they don't have to make different packages for different regions., npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1rh0…sjsf @npub194q…7t42 Congrats on the upgrade! npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute #Sunset this evening at Breton Point Park, #Newport, #RhodeIsland. #seascape #photography https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/111/671/831/354/360/679/original/948280b85eec585c.png npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1ut8…k9fw So, with this one flight, from Rome to Austin, his jet produced 6 times the carbon footprint that my car has produced in total over the four years I've had it. Granted, I can't drive to Rome, but my car has covered 47,000 miles in that time, or 8 times this distance. npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1v6q…a0a4 What a lovely lighthouse. I haven't been to most of the lighthouses north of Portland, yet. npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute Another view of Sakonnet Point #Lighthouse, yesterday afternoon. I would have waited for a more dramatic moment of the sunset, but I only had a light jacket and no gloves, and wanted to warm up more than I wanted a better picture. So much for suffering for my art. #uas #photography #drones4fun #rhodeisland https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/111/478/022/637/800/339/original/67751dd3204f555d.png npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1rh0…sjsf The Mini 4 Pro (and to a lesser extent, the Mini 3 Pro, and the Mini 3) will all have better cameras than the Mini 2. Whether they're better enough, only you can say. They will have bigger sensor sizes, and better dynamic range. I think they're close to 12 MP than 48 MP, given how they achieve that, but MP isn't much of a meassure of camera quality. Any of them are likely big improvements over my old Mavic Pro. Good luck with you part 107! npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1rh0…sjsf If you need/want to stay in the sub-250 g space, then the DJI Mini 4 Pro is the best game in town, at the moment. While that adds omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, and more flight features, you'll have to judge for yourself if the camera is "noticably" better to your standards for still photography. Since I didn't much need the sub-250 g option, I recently got an Air 3 to replace my Mini 3 Pro. I like having the 3x optical zoom camera, and the better wind resistance. npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1vyt…mgjn I'll further note that there are 134 episodes of Suits, so if you stream the entire series, you'd run out of content well before hitting the 160+ hours needed to award the writers a penny. npub1gqyfzmccvz0xamv3ht8la86505cxuzfhnprlk0zlsuncp6r9jy6svgw739 Aeronaute @npub1vyt…mgjn So, just shy of a full week of streaming 24/7 for $0.01 of payment to be split by the writing pool.
