Been reading about AI recursive self-improvement and had an idea.
What if I tried this myself?
The goal: become a better version of myself, and have that version become better. Then I’ll continue recursively.
Human RSI could be the next big thing.

@nprofile…k7ew Nice. I plan to be in the market for a laptop in 2-3 years.

@nprofile…k7ew Is the framework good BTW? I’ve heard good things.
Also yeah it sucks how many third party dependencies people have. Really gives a bit attack surface.

@nprofile…hrzl ah yes, this is exactly the sort of thing I’d like to build. Although I would architect it a little bit differently.

@nprofile…hrzl True. It does work pretty well.

@nprofile…hrzl BitTorrent is one of the best P2P systems, with only a few issues:
1. If you want to be fully decentralized (no trackers), you need to use DHT. DHT is fine, but a bit slow to start if you’re creating a torrent.
2. At least somebody needs a port that’s directly connectable, and not having one limits connectivity.
This is why I think federated systems are better for most use cases. Although that likely wouldn’t work with BT.

2026-05-09 08:35:56 GMT

- reply

@nprofile…hrzl Interesting. I will note that I’ve never seen a P2P technology that actually works well since most users are stuck behind nat and/or firewalls.

The Fediverse is great, but what if we expended this concept?
Federated overlay network.
A bunch of people host WireGuard servers that route data between clients (but not to the internet at large). Then, it would establish tunnels to all the other servers and form a mesh. Each server would have an IPv6 ULA subnet.
Of course, you’d probably need a central authority to designate ULA ranges and list the servers to connect with, but would be mostly decentralized.

@nprofile…dfpj The pessimist in my wonders if it’s AI companies scraping the hell out of porn sites. Gotta train those safety filters somehow. Some bots may show as running on Linux.

@nprofile…qz4x Legally speaking, I wonder if I could make a billing service where I just send people bills where the bill is for the bill itself.

@nprofile…4d9x Oh yeah that’s a great resource. The only thing I try to be careful about is Safari, since a lot of people don’t update their OS often in apple products. Also people with old phone that can’t update are just stuck with an old browser. It’s very annoying because every other browser just stays up to date automatically.

2025-06-27 15:56:27 GMT

- reply

@nprofile…4d9x Yeah, I might start switching to AVIF. It does seem like every major browser has supported it for a while, so it’s probably fine now. I am usually a bit cautious but I think I’ll make the switch soon.

Reddit is roasting me because I said I like using WebP and I don’t care if it makes people mad that they can’t easily download it and use it in every single program they want.
Am I wrong? Should I really avoid WebP because some random person might wanna download an image and is too lazy to convert to PNG?

How to y’all feel about #Kagi search? I’m trying the $10 plan and it seems really good so far. It’s pricey but it might be worth it. Definitely avoids the problems that google has, and DuckDuckGo just doesn’t cut it for me.

Techno-Elitism (did I just coin that?) need to be talked about more. People program like everyone has 16GB of RAM, mix sound like everyone has 5.1 channel audio, master HDR like everyone has a home theatre, and design websites like everyone has unlimited fiber.

So I get why dialup modems sent tones through the telephone line, but why did they have to have a speaker too? Whose idea was it that customers would want to hear indecipherable screeching the whole time they used the internet?

Valentine’s Day is actually awful. If you’re single, you’re constantly reminded about it. World’s biggest FOMO day.
If you’re in a relationship, you get price-gouged on cards, flowers, chocolate, etc.
It literally drives up the suicide rate if you look at the data. We actually need to stop this.

I love the Internet Archive, but they made some really bad decisions. You can’t just give away copyrighted books to everyone with no limits because you’re a “library” and it’s a “national emergency.”
Even if they survive the lawsuit, we need a better way to archive stuff. The Internet Archive is a single point of failure, and besides that it’s a ridiculously slow website anyway.
Does anyone have ideas for an alternative?
