I don't really do the "plug the stuff you made" thing super aggressively, but it feels exceptionally relevant today:
If you're sitting there wrangling updates for your homelab or small to mid size network on debian or redhat likes, because of a certain CVE, and you wish there was a a way to simply get a view of the state of that across all your systems, in one place, you could give my tool a go. It has a nice UX and requires nothing except ssh.

I've released version 2.2.0 of Exosphere, my patch reporting program for remote UNIX systems.
It contains support for SSH connection pipelining, with associated tools to manage their state, as well as an exhaustive polish pass.
Multiple internal systems have been refactored to be much cleaner and easier to maintain.

Yeah, Kontact is in a weird spot -- it has existed for a very long time and has ancestry where its components existed standalone but could embed into each other but not necessarily
so Kontact is the PIM suite, KOrganizer is the calendar component within that, KMail is the mail part within that, KAddressBook is the contacts part etc
And they all can be used standalone without the others, basically.

I've been on the hunt for some accessible, easily self-hosted (on prem or datacenter) chat solution for a while now, and I've been looking very closely at deltachat/chatmail.
Not gonna lie, the fact that just uses mature SMTP facilities for transport is making me weirdly aroused.
If anyone has experience running their own chatmail server or just using deltachat in general, I'd be glad to hear from you.

New "hardening" policy at work kills your ssh-agent process after 10 minutes.
Note that this isn't "10 minutes without use on the socket" like gpg-agent does or whatnot, no, it's full on "10 minutes lifetime max".
I would describe this as:
* High friction
* Infuriating

Yes, it's the same as the Ultra 10, which is PIO only ATA33.
Last time I benchmarked it, it had an incredible top speed on random reads of THREE WHOLE MEGABYTES per second.
While the system is stuck in IOWAIT with high cpu usage.

New friend arrived. This is gonna be a nice weekend project.
I plan to put a CompactFlash card or two in it as storage, install Solaris, and then if I'm lucky maybe I can get my SUNPCi card working and run Windows 95 in a window on the desktop.

I remember actually having trouble playing this back then in the transition between win9x and windows 2000/XP. It's in that awkward era of Direct X T&L.
I dimly remember patch 1.2 helped, otherwise it would either crash to desktop or hang fully.

My phone is on vibrate 99.999% of the time, but once in a while something turns the sounds back on (opsgenie or whatever) and it reminds me that my default notification sound is the item pickup sound from classic Doom. Just the little duh-dut.
It's a sound that brings me inner peace instead of stress, and that's nice.

It's wild to me how the the Activity Monitor keeps getting more and more useless with every release of Mac OS and no one seems to care.
It's literally The Tool to Look At Processes that has actual hooks into the platform, and yet you leave it there for a second too long and it stops updating forever. What hot garbage.

I'm going through older-yet-significant high difficulty Doom 2 megawads lately, since I feel some amount of bravado from finishing Eviternity 1 and 2 on UV, and so I'm doing Sunlust again.
It turns out there's two kinds of "Man that was difficult". There's the fun difficult where you can see what you need to do and how to approach this and every time you die is a learning experience, and when it all gels and you execute your dance between projectiles, do target prioritization and absolutely exploit infighting, it feels great. That's "good difficult".
And then there's bad difficult where you have your head between your hands and can only breathlessly whisper "fuck."
Sunlust is a wild mix of both, and I only have dim memories of playing it some years ago, so it's a good time. I vaguely remember the later maps turning into Slaughtermap Galore (pejorative), but so far I'm remembering why I liked it.

It's that yearly moment where I reminisce about my Palm PDAs and Pocket PCs of old, and I realize that I actually miss the stupid Palm Graffiti alphabet as a stylus driven input method.
When you got good at it, you could jot down things shockingly quick. Unfortunately, It also ended up shaping my already weird and shitty handwriting into something weirder and shittier still.
I haven't been comfortable taking notes on anything not keyboard driven since.

I finally beat the last episode of Eviternity II, including its absolutely insane, sadistic secret level, and boy what a great ride that was.
It's been a while since a Doom megawad made me sweat this much without devolving into a cheap slaughter map with too many revenants.
Top shelf stuff: level design, theme, mechanics, puzzles, music, textures, it's a solid 11/10 and I can't recommend it enough.
UV is absolutely Unrelenting, too.

Well that's a teenage dream realized right there. Turns out absolutely nothing stops you from telling 86Box's emulated sound card to send midi out to an actual midi device hooked to your desktop, and it just works.
So here's Duke Nukem 3D using the SC-88 on my desk in SC-55 map mode.
Sound is coming back in via the analog inputs of my audio interface and I have finally achieved "the rich people setup" of my dreams in the 90s. Totally worth it.

So, 86box has gotten General Modem Emulation in 4.2, and you can absolutely dial up with SLIP to access the internet over SLiRP, and it absolutely works.
Dialog Boxes you have not seen in Quite Some Time, volume 5.

I'm in the process of consolidating the seven sata disks in my computer that have accrued over the past ten years into two large nvme drives.
Im maxing out the sata drives just reading from them, all onto the same nvme and it's not even breaking a sweat.

Man, the release version of Selaco has _even more_ small details compared to the demo.
Like you walk up to a can, hit use, expect it to go glugglug and disappear, giving you +2 HP.
But no, it completely unecessarily has a two stages voxel animation where you remove the tab first, and it does a little splash that peppers wet decals on the environment.
They did not have to go so hard, but they did anyways.

I've been dicking with OBSIDIAN, a modern, fork of OBLIGE, a procedural doom map generator. Mostly because I love things like LiTDoom and other tactical/survival mods but none of the megawads are particularily well tuned for it and it often stops being fun by like, map 6.
It's been pretty good, and feels like a roguelite a bit. What's amazing though is that Obsidian can and will generate this pattern sometimes where it makes a House of Mirrors hallway, and it's terrifying.

I'm afraid grandpa Sun Ultra 10 might have booted his last. He simply turned off and never turned back on over the period of however long my expire record in my DNS zones are (which is when I noticed).
It spent over 25 years computing quietly and never exhibiting any issues prior, it will be missed if I can't resurrect it.

I finished dumping 99.99% of a very old, damaged, backup CDROM that was previously unreadable. It took 3 days and I was super excited to find out what old data I put on it. The disc had UDF sessions, because that was common at the time for just Adding Files to non-rewritable media.
So I mount that shit in my Windows 98SE box, and lo and behold, this is all that was on it.
I would be absolutely upset if it wasn't so fucking funny
