@npub1xpc…3t05 @npub1djn…rhhq @npub1ahq…wjwd With keeping the Senate and getting rid of the blue slips, places like the fifth circuit could be revamped. With the House, court expansion could be possible (in addition to actual legislation). But, as you say, slim chances. Especial with SCOTUS having reduced (but not yet obliterated) the Voting Rights Act.
It's getting pretty hard to see a viable return to sanity.

@npub1djn…rhhq @npub1ahq…wjwd @npub1xpc…3t05 Unfortunately, on the US side, the Supreme Court is also on the verge to take a radical step in dismantling the "administrative state", i.e. the ability for the government to govern. The intent of course being to prevent useful and nimble regulations across all industries. So even an agency would only have the right to do to the letter what congress proscribed, making expert agencies mostly redundant. Soon government will be small enough to drown.

@npub198t…hasj I happened to start using openHAB a decade ago or so, and it's been pretty good for me. But everyone, everywhere, all the time, speaks about Home Assistant.
Is there a reason for that that I'm not understanding? Ive tried it once or twice and I didn't feel there was anything massively better. It seemed very difficult to add persistent recording of data. The deconz plug-in seemed a bit more convenient. So, some pros and cons. I've liked the openHAB community, is HA better? Curious.

@npub1hpc…hjn3 I've barely seen it discussed, Wolodarski had two sentences in his Sunday article today. It's not what Kristersson, Andersson or Strömmer are talking about, it's always about harder measures just against the kids and the bosses. Anyway, I find it weird that there's so little talk about where the money actually comes from, just follow the money, no?

@npub1hpc…hjn3 What I don't underestimate is that there's so little talk about the demand side. They talk about police, surveillance, stopping recruitment, even bringing in the military. And here they talk about laundering and reinvesting the money. But someone was giving them the money to start with. Someone bought those drugs with money they use to buy guns and granada - and health clinics. Increase punishment or legalize, I don't know. But the money comes from the users in the end.

@npub1xr8…3q0g @npub17ha…t8va Yes, but this specific problem is that the rest of them (those who voted for this resolution) allow a system where they approve a budget but then has separate debt ceiling votes. It's designed for the same purpose as the filibuster and blue slips in the senate - to allow individuals or small groups of people to block government.

#[0] #[1] Pivoting a bit, as you say, the first amendment (and other rights) is limited in whatever way SCOTUS will, from time to time, divine and proclaim. When you have ACLU and EFF essentially arguing a stalker shouldn't be convicted unless the victim can prove their intent to threaten. We'll see what the first amendment looks like after this SCOTUS term.

#[0] #[1] #[2] I'd reframe it, because it's not a win-lose thing. Fox won, "bigly".
But so did Dominion. Dominion did not lose, they won. That's the frustrating part. Just because Fox clearly won doesn't mean Dominion lost. We wanted Dominion to fight our fight, but it turns out they fought their fight (rightly so). And in the end, both parties won what was important and achievable to them.
It's us who lost.
