Last Notes npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann The average American spends 4 hours every day scrolling on their phone. For the younger generations its almost 6. If you don't include the time you have to sleep, that's between 90-130 days out of the year... spent just looking at our phones. If you could get that time back what would you do with it? https://v.nostr.build/56uNuclzzxcAFYtL.mp4 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann 2007 US govt debt was $9T Today its $38T In 20 years it'll be ~$140-180T This is by merely extending a stable, non-partisan exponential trend that has held since the 70s. Are you hedging this or will you just watch living standards collapse & blame whatever scapegoat politicians throw at you? npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann I will be checking out uv though. Thanks for the suggestions 🙏🏻 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Apparently all I needed was uv, venv, anaconda, mise, othernet, pandas, and numpy ITS SO SIMPLE! 😂😂 #nevent1q…ss8n #nevent1q…ss8n npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Venv is half the source of my problems because I cannot conceptually hang onto how many different ways and locations a different python version or set of tools is installed. It *sounds* like a solution, but it’s just the thing I end up fighting with for hours after nothing works the basic way. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann So Linux is just being an asshole about it? Yea I’m on linux if that’s a question. If that’s your solution, this does not help me 😆 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann I don’t think I’ve ever done anything with python and pip that didn’t result in an entire cascade of errors, failed installs, can’t use newest version, can’t write to disk, and a myriad other absurd errors. Then I go online and people are using these tools like you just double click something and it goes. What internet do you guys live in where any of this shit actually works? npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann 21 sats minimum 😆 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Did they search in your butt? 😆 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann THIIIIIISSSSSSSS npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann What problem did we give more power to the govt to solve, that it actually solved? Seriously like which one just got a bill passed and boom, problem gone and nobody even talks about it or thinks about it any more? npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann If you are in the Raleigh Durham area on the 13th we are having a HODL UP game night at Crafty's! Then we complain about how big corporations are. https://blossom.primal.net/c0c7ace720affbc05e138f4df40662029a7e1572f1dc7a019fd4fc1e7cb79b94.jpg npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann I doubt we ever have another ICO bubble like the first one. Everyone sees that as a scam coming from a mile away. But I guess we will see as all that mentality rolls back into Bitcoin as crypto stagnates and lags as i think it will continue to do generally. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann I’ve not really heard people saying Ark would replace LN. I’ve always heard that the best use case for Ark was that each transaction could BE a channel without any of the delay or general liquidity problems that tend to come with it. Basically that Ark makes a fantastic way to create giant channel generating hubs. And obviously if it’s not integrated into the rest of the LN ecosystem, it’s basically useless in isolation. Lightning is the glue that holds every one of these other systems together. Roy has a great article about that actually npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann I mean I like Justin, he’s always been a good guy, but I don’t see the same on this issue for sure. I also can’t see how Ark does anything other than provide a net benefit to the entire Lightning ecosystem either. It seems like it really serves the role of “channel factories” that we never got due to the sheer difficulty of coordination involved. Excited to see this in action on mainnet after years of quiet building. It’s also not as if Lightning or Ark are perfect, but they seem to me to be very similar and very prudent trade offs to get different benefits that work fantastic when used together. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann How did you guys enjoy Crabtober? 😆 #Bitcoin https://blossom.primal.net/8e1079edcc82680f7a11f6453bfe97ed9de25660cf50abf91aa7f1dfa312ac13.jpg npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Can’t zap right now. I mean something's gotta give at some point, right? Either you get developers more inline with the users, or a lot of the users kinda end up leaving. This is not a trivial concern. It's a big attack surface. We've seen it in these communities where a lot of this political stuff enters and then the next thing you know it gets completely, sort of subsumed by this movement..." Chat #148 - 'It Doesn't Pass the Smell Test' with Jimmy Song @nprofile…dzev https://v.nostr.build/FSkRiQO5LU7LkipI.mp4 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Standardness* (stupid autocorrect) npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Removal of a standard was rule for transactions. The OP_RETURN has been changed for more than half the hash power, despite the many thousands of users who run that hash power having not actually made that decision themselves. Instead just 7 pool operators have made that decision for half the network. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann I go back and forth on the ossification issue. I do think we may have inadvertently pushed heavily in that direction though because this issue, which I think is way more inconsequential to the problem it’s supposed to be helping than a dozen others, was clearly the most politically charged one to make. I like the harm reduction argument generally, except that it directly contradicts the economic incentive argument. I just can’t make a good picture in my head how this is going to do anything but lead to more spam and won’t do anything to lessen the inscription/stamp issue at all. It’s literally 75% cheaper to use inscriptions. Nobody is gonna use it like a “trash can” who is using it now because the very people making use of it are the ones who don’t care that there’s garbage all over the park. In everything I’ve seen it just looks like they just want a cheap way to sell bullshit NFTs to people. At least if there are simple filters, they are forced to run a node without them if they want to get their stuff in the chain. This is the least I think should be required if they are explicitly manipulating transactions to be unspendable to trick the chain into storing jpegs or whatever arbitrary data they want. If they care enough to help host the network, then nobody can stop them and it will work itself out. But if they are only doing it to freeload, then I think those nodes who want to support a monetary network have no obligation to broadcast spam. 🤷🏻♂️ npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann This actually shows the real problem with "mining" today, regardless of filters. People with bitcoin miners are NOT mining Bitcoin. Instead jsut these 7 node installed v30, and now more than half the blocks created in Bitcoin have ben altered. Importantly, NOT half the people running hash power or the users who are trying to support Bitcoin, but the mining pool operators who *decide* what goes into over half the blocks. This is why DATUM is the most important project in Bitcoin. #nevent1q…exfd npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann 🤣 My assigned FBI agent sucks if he hasn't found something yet. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Never take your freedom for granted. 🫡 #nevent1q…04t6 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann You're welcome: @nprofile…x58v note: "Oh, look at the genius devs, bailing at 80% to chase sparkly new projects, while real champs wade through the soul-sucking swamp of diminishing returns to dunk on their quitter rivals." @nprofile…vvhl note: "AI nerds fantasize about infinite brain-bursting gains, blind to the fact that human vibes and content mean their precious models hit a wall, spitting out increasingly meh results with a side of hilariously dumb flubs." npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann YOU'RE JUST LAZY AND YOU KNOW IT! https://blossom.primal.net/e43a86e628edf6768c31c9de1dbefdbb178d45b579acc5affb0aa3359c9f6d33.gif npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann This is what we've failed to recognize with Ai, in my opinion. Researchers think there's going to be an exponential, neverending explosion the moment Ai can train its own models better using the scaling principle (a big model can make a smaller model that's better, then use compute to scale it up to its own size, thus making a better model than itself) but what they don't see is that, *especially* because its all still dependent upon human judgement as to what is "better," and because its all derived from human content. Sure the first few iterations will make generally much better models, but the first time can make 100% improvement, the second time maybe 40%, the third time maybe 10%, etc. It's just not going to scalre forever because there's no way it compounds, it seems blatantly obvious it has diminishing returns. You can't start with human quality material, and human judgement, and then end up with something 10000x better than any human ever can or could be. That doesn't make sense on a dozen different levels. Ai is a probability machine, every single time you make things more aligned with what is more probable, you necessarily also introduce a little noise with each iteration until it can't even know what is "better" and what isn't anymore. It's like having an Ai check its own work. Sure a lot of times it catches mistakes, but sometimes it still just says shit that's dumb as fuck because that's what ai does sometimes. #nevent1q…ehk9 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann https://primal.net/e/nevent1qqsdcqfw0q48ny09scmntlq9zzzp9psxl0qglzvyvwug6r3ls2446fqxg6e52 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Before the Federal Reserve it happened all the time. You don’t have to keep pinging me. These things take time guys. Jesus. Omg, this thing is 512 pages… small print 😵 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Damn, where is this? Looks like Switzerland npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann I like the individual logos for the apps they are building and that they are going for an ecosystem look so each tool has its own identity. But for them trying to keep the bee as the symbol of cooperation and growth, it def looks like a hornet or similar. I like the color scheme fine though. Would be nice to make have that same touch of black in the main logo that they have in the individual, but I get that the simple 2 color scheme is way more versatile and works far better when icons or images have to be really small. I’ve run into that myself while we’ve done brand marks and the like. This could throw off the balance, but the butt should be more rounded to emphasize it’s a bee and not in “attack mode.” Overall I like it fine though. I’m a minimalist fan myself. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Logo kinda looks like a wasp or a hornet - saw @nprofile…uht9 point this out too. Otherwise the branding looks super clean and I like the new look. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Of course, as the protocol is a generic data transfer. And in the same way Bitcoin allows money that porn and spam can use, as they deserve and no money is any good that decides who can use it. But in neither situation does refusing to host or share porn or spam on behalf of others interfere with either of the two former points on TCP/IP or Bitcoin. Anyone can use TCP/IP without forcing someone else to save your porn. Anyone can use Bitcoin as money without forcing anyone else to store porn or share it with others. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Cory hasn’t actually taken a position, he explicitly said today that he was collecting the best information so he could try to formulate some idea about. I don’t think he is agreeing with this, probably just posting for comments, or possibly even thinking that the argument makes no sense. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann All op-return opinions aside: If everyone in a neighborhood says you can't come into my house naked and wearing a strap on, in no way does that mean the person is not free to do so, nor is that in any sense of the word "authoritarian." Liberty isn't everyone being forced to allow and support any potential "non-violent" action in every possible context or space. That argument is as absurd as saying that to think drugs should be legal you have to love heroin and want everyone to use it every day. https://blossom.primal.net/f5b0fe33aa3810e41907810e85592665d7668ba91abb844133ab9c9d51945ab3.png npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Throwing everything into one bucket called "software" shows a gross misunderstanding of the spectrum here. A *consensus protocol* and an app are both software, but the conditions and need for each to change couldn't be further away from each other. Tell me the last time you updated your TCP/IP because "it is software and it has to evolve" in order to make your internet better and you'll begin to understand how badly this idea misses the mark. https://blossom.primal.net/dbc2c4899a8fdab14184b86528e743c44589eb555d117bd67f5c7e59e2314e1a.png npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann If you can't reasonably defend your position on an issue or handle talking sensibly with someone who disagrees with you, that is a sign of a serious mental weakness or insecurity that you should probably work on. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Not me but you’re welcome anyway 🤣 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann This also seems pretty easy to mitigate too. Load the other common derivation paths in the background and check for balances. Alert the user if there is another balance on a different path. If not, do nothing and just clear the other public keys from memory. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Yeah this is pretty bad UX. Wallet designers should consider this because it will scare the crap out of noobs who don’t know what’s going on. #nevent1q…9y2h npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann What’s funny about that too is that there aren’t but a handful of common derivation paths. You could write a script to load and check all the possible ones in the background to verify any balance, and then prompt the user if one is found while the user selected a different one. Something like “you chose a P2SH derivation, but there is a Bech32 derivation with 0.2157 bitcoin in it. Would you like to load that as well?” npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann If anyone has had a similar issue and has some direct advice… #asknostr #bitcoin #nevent1q…8zzj npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann So I get this right: They were using Blockstream green WITH cobovault as the key? Because in that case I would try a fresh Green wallet restore on a different device first with the cobovault. Basically same setup as they did the first time to see if it comes back. Or are you meaning one had a problem with Green and the other had a problem with Cobovault? Also how did they lose their setup or disconnect the wallet? Any details on what happened exactly? Might help figure out the process to bring it back. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Seriously that’s weird. Sounds like a derivation path problem though. I would tell them there are ways to create different wallets from the same seed, but as long as they have their seed they can recover funds. I imagine the reason it’s different in green is because Blockstream does a special setup so it might not be standard. Sorry I wish I had specifics to investigate. If I might be able to help I can try, just a factor of available time right now unfortunately npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Those are the same thing. How do you think we got a debt based money that destroyed economic incentives? What do you think a central bank even is? npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann There’s only one way to define it that makes any useful sense and can actually produce a prosperous society instead of a horrific one. Make its definition arbitrary and useless at your own risk. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Only in a society with some degree of freedom, can a generation grow up so entitled as to think the natural state of the world is having whatever you want whenever you want it. And that somehow “free markets” stole this from them. This is the foundational logic of socialism. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Shit is good. We’d need to have people either voluntarily pay for their own submission (say 200 sats), but then they are leaving their post “validity” up to an LLMs judgement, which is deeply questionable judgement specifically for controversial things, which is where the “independent” verification would be most valuable, but the LLM would likely be least valuable. It’s interesting on its surface, but suffers from some big sustainability, cost, and Ai bias problems. Not dismissed outright, but lots to figure out for it to be feasible, imo. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Has anyone done a serious write up or deep dive on this story? Basically something that gets attention and makes them look "forward thinking" but is of no great import on their agenda. Take advantage of this. We are beginning into the very bottom curve of nation state adoption, and we probably have a good 5 years (at least) before getting into the turn up where some major nations start to panic and #Bitcoin makes its way much higher on the concern/priority list. Don't make the mistake of thinking this is over, or that the opportunity is dwindling, or you'll miss what is still the greatest opportunity in history to front run the next global reserve. #nevent1q…29lv npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Was about to post the same npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Everyone can start by cutting their hair the same way 🤣 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Adam is legend. But they can "destroy" a particular balance. Tether basically vouches/signs for all balances of USDT that they issue, and so they can revoke the legitimacy of the coins at any time and simply claim "we won't redeem these particular coins anymore." So if someone steals a billion in USDT, they can make it so they can't spend it and as long as people check the USDT validity, it would be easy to see they shouldn't accept it and it would look like "counterfeit" USDT. Don't know the precise mechanisms at play here, but I'm like 99% sure this is the relationship. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann I use Fold for everything and I'm desperately waiting for their credit card (been on the list since the day they announced it), but right now the only credit card I use is Apple because I can send the apple cash directly to Fold and swap to bitcoin. There's probably a more direct option and I've heard that Mercury was offering something (who I'm considering for my business banking), but i don't really like the other crypto companies that offer credit cards (I've heard people who say they like Gemini credit card tho, haven't used them myself) and I'm just waiting on Fold so I can have it all in one place. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Oooo that’s a good one 😆 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Dude... @nprofile…ysyl is pretty dope. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann "I should have just listened to more episodes of Bitcoin Audible..." 🤣 https://blossom.primal.net/f7993f94e7cb470f6c2b207e21c8bfa93cb659a6b17c3c3cdaae68aecd143e64.gif #nevent1q…f4fe npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Just helped a friend the other day boot up a Multibit HD wallet from 2013 that hadn't been opened in more than a decade. To communicate an idea you broadcast it (speech), to communicate value you must trade for it. Its more like a weight where you must have something on the other side of the scale for it to even be measurable. They have distinct ways to transmit the two different mediums. So really, you can't "buy language" for the same reason you can't "think money" or "speak heavy objects." But both are very costly to create and sustain, a cost that is absolutely worth it, as they allow society to exist. In fact, one could argue that language and money are quite possibly the two greatest emergent investments in human history. 🤔 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann #Bitcoin has "no intrinsic value" in exactly the same way language has no intrinsic value. The value of both is derived from the network it creates and what what is possible only with if that network exists. A society without language to communicate information is so poor it's hardly worth calling it a "society." The same is true for Bitcoin and sound money. Keep watching. The world of bitcoiners will keep getting wealthier, and the fiat world will keep getting poorer. You are invited anytime you would like to stop having fun staying poor using money that explicitly steals from you and says its for your benefit. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann People don't realize that #Bitcoin can conquer a $100+ trillion market simply because of multisig and the unbreakable reliability of its settlement. There is no collateral that can even come close to any of the 5 most important traits you want in a perfect collateral. Bitcoin destroys all of it. - quick to exchange - easy to verify - easy & quick to liquidate at any time on any day - cant be damaged, perfectly portable - completely unmatched in mitigating trust and custody concerns Literally nothing is even in the same ballpark. npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Ai is becoming the most invasive surveillance tool ever, it’s explicitly bypassing all encrypted communications, sandboxing, and privacy implementations so that it has “the right context.” It is literally reading passwords off your screen. For a little bit of convenience, we are losing literally every major barrier we have built for privacy and security in one swing. https://blossom.primal.net/36819088184b6d7674f0485dba8ecbd44088c64ab4aa246ff23498cf474d0216.mp4 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Son of a bitch 🤣 npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev TheGuySwann Idea: What if you could set a price to have someone you weren’t following, and who wasn’t in your social circle, to be able to put their post in your feed?
