Just to add my 2 cents to this discussion. I have my own vps in Hetzner (Germany). The same ip for at least two years. Not present on any blacklists. I run wireguard vpn on it just for myself.
Reddit blocked me too :)

Cloudflare is a next corpo that wants to control the Internet. On a network level.
But people don't seem to be bothered.

If you care about reliable calls, texts, mms then stay away from "linux phones".
I did not find any " linux phone" with reliable calls. Not even one. Tried 4 different ones.
Save yourself stress and disapointment. Buy Pixel and run @npub1kwa…e0nj.

BTW - FuriOS is based on Halium. So it's not even full blown Linux distribution.

So this is my latest attempt at so called "Linux phone". There is this company - Furilabs.
I went to visit their site. Ok, they have a phone they are selling. Great. Oh - they have a forum. Let's see what people say. I open forum main page. And what do I see in "Recently updated topics" ----> "Incoming call no audio"...
After all these years there is not a single "Linux phone" that can reliably make calls. In all known to humanity "Linux Phone" distributions. Seriously ???

You mean it eats battery when asleep, right ?
I've also owned Pinebook Pro. Unfortunately it has multiple hardware design flaws. I got rid of it in the end.
But yes, probably sleep will not work properly on ARM devices unless you use some outdated BSP kernel. Or vendor is interested in committing to mainline.

I can say that on my Asus Zenbook 14 it works perfectly. As I mentioned it's Intel Meteor Lake. Which actually can be a plus in this case. Thanks to s2idle working so good I actually started using it.
A while ago I had Lenovo Ideapad based on AMD. It was not perfect. It used much more energy when asleep. Also not all devices were waking up correctly.
I'm under the impression that AMD lags behind with Linux support when compared to Intel. It might have changed recently though.

For recent hardware you don't need s3. On my Meteor Lake laptop s2 ( or s2idle) is more than enough on Linux. I suppose it could be easily suspended for 5, maybe even 7 days.
I'm not sure how it is on FreeBSD. Since my hardware is not supported for now.

100 % right. After all these years no single phone running pmOS can make phone calls reliably...
Yet, all the time you read "we have ported pmOS to a new device".
And I'm asking myself - what for ? Make ONE device place/receive calls reliably.
This is a major fail. And kind of embarassing.

Today I visited Linux Foundation website. First time in my life. I never paid too much attention to it. I clicked on "board of directors" ... I'm shocked...
Foundation has 22 members of board of directors from:
Sony
RedHat (IBM)
Intel
Huawei
Renesas
Fujitsu
Tencent
Qualcomm
Meta
Hitachi
Panasonic
Microsoft
Samsung
Ericsson
NEC
Intel
Oracle
4 x people from "god knows where"
1 x Linux Foundation employee !!!
Can someone explain this to me ?

It absolutely is.
It reminds me times I was working on Slackware over 20 years ago.

Well, actually to understand the entire bringup process of a modern desktop.
You know - DBus, xdg-portals, sound etc. Usually this is done for you by systemd. But you don't know much about it.
Once you do understand - the rest is easy and pleasant. With some work, you have system configured exactly how you want it. My sway is taking 0.8GB of RAM on clean boot :)
Also if you have extremely new hardware you might have problems. Stable is on kernel 6.6 and edge is kind of incomplete.

Yes, I do use Alpine on a laptop as a daily.
It is somewhat harder to enter "Alpine As A Daily" world than with Fedora or something similar. I had like three approaches in the beginning. The third one was sucessful.
It made me understand many things that I was separated from with more "friendly" distros. APK build system is great and straightforward. Alpine is also simple and clean. I am more than happy with it.
Why ? To be honest I was fed up with systemd pushed down my throat.

It's easy to point fingers.
What do you suggest then ? Because some sites are just impossible to look at without adblocker.
