Last Notes npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 This is the way npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Yes but if you consider that old content is generally still hosted by people who wrote it or recently consumed it, it's fine. The original author is a node, sharing that content, as are other nodes. No relay is offering anything close to permanent storage, and certainly not for free. Making every use a relay for content storage/sharing would instantly and massively improve the storage capacity of the nostr network. And remember at least for text notes even an android phone can store millions of them. Wikipedia fits on a DVD. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 That's a lot of words to say cocaine npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Idea for nostr: relays should ONLY store a list of event IDs so you can query a list of the users most recent posts. Storage of the posts themselves should be pushed to a p2p content-addressed storage backend like freenet, tahoe-lafs, dht (BitTorrent) or similar. You request a note? You are now serving that note to others. Every client becomes a relay. Since everything is signed by a key there's no risk of impersonation. The nostr relay solves the issue of "what are this person's most recent posts" without having to deal with the storage and headaches that come from actually storing the posts themselves. This also solves a number of privacy concerns that come from relays being the centralized place people fetch content from. It also solves the blossom/media storage problem. #nostr npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 There are DVMs for that check the discovery section npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 I think it is an intra-gender (within the same gender) competition thing. By choosing to do something they know is unattractive to the other gender, they are showing how much they are on "team women". They are not "centering men" and this is a way to demonstrate it. It's also a display of "independence" and a way to signify outwardly which social/political group they align with. Similar to how people make clothing choices that make it indirectly clear what their politics and values are. A sundress, shaved legs, an American flag, wrap around sunglasses, or colored hair are similar indicators. Much of womens status within their own gender is based around beauty and the perception that they can attract or get committment from highly desired men. Doing something that makes you less attractive is a way to demonstrate abundance aka "I'm still hot and desired even though I am wearing a baggy sweater, nose piercing, etc". Men similarly obtain rank in their own gender by having access to many women. The nose ring thing is similar to but different from, for example, very long nails, excessive makeup, fake tans, or other expensive beauty treatments that men find generally find somewhere between boring and repulsive. It's not about men at all, it's about intra-gender status games, they do these things to flex on other women. The male equivalent of that is big loud trucks. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 The reason women aren't "afraid of commitment" is because they don't take commitment seriously. Women initiate 70% of divorces and the majority of breakups. Men are the problem? Then why is the lesbian divorce rate double hetero couples and why is the gay male divorce rate half? The answer is obvious if you don't do the mental gymnastics to avoid it. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Algorithmic justice legislation is censorship and government control of speech. Disappointed fftf would support this. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Your monitor also has a DisplayPort, that can give you better resolution, refresh rate, etc. really only matters for gaming. You can get HDMI to dvi adapters too npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 It is an incredible marketing failure that Bitcoin does not dominate this use case. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 I usually hear the phrase "fear of committment" from women describing men. Men commit easily and readily. Most chosen a sport team at 8 years old and have let it control their emotional state for every Sunday for their entire lives. They haven't changed decoderant brands in 15 years. Men are hesitant to commit to women specifically because they routinely weaponize that commitment and do not take that commitment as seriously as men do. Source: divorce and break ups being overwhelmingly initiated by women. And lesbian relationships having the highest divorce rate. And gay men having the lowest. It's not a mystery why. Women aren't "afraid of commitment" because they don't take commitment seriously. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 We need drivechains like yesterday. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 For convenience and conversion to fiat? It doesn't matter if it's "not your fault", asking whose at fault is the wrong question. You are a person, not a court. First ask yourself how you found yourself in this situation, how your actions contributed to it, if at all, and how you can avoid it in the future. After you've done all that, assign all the blame you want. Yes, this is for everything, the more extreme the situation the more important it is to ask that question so you can avoid it. Maybe the answer is there's nothing you could have done to avoid it. That's fine. But give yourself the opportunity to be honest and grow by asking it. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 If you ALSO don't get notifications for other events (replies), it could be you don't have your inbox relays setup. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 I'm on amethyst and got a notification of your zap. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Zaps on posts/comments show as notifications in other clients, zaps inherently reference the note. Drivechains enable every other chain concept (monero, eth, Litecoin, etc) to be built on top of BTC and have the fees from those side chains go to BTC miners. Had drivechains been implemented from day one, those other chains would have never separated from BTC in the first place. See drivechain.info and eCash.com npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 I'm on amethyst with default settings and not having any significant spam issues npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Drivechains would go a long way to improving the security budget unlike scaling solutions like lightning which are keeping on chain fees so low. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 We need a truly decentralized data store. Freenet version 1 achieved this over a decade ago. The latest interaction being made by Ian Clarke is much more performant, nostr should consider using it instead of blossom. Every user should be a node/relay npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 See eCash.com and for background drivechain.info npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 This is assuming the eCash fork gains traction and adoption. So far the promotion of it has been abysmal. Paul is a great programmer, but an awful salesman. My feed was full of bip 110 nonsense for six months and I've seen only a handful of posts about drivechains. Most Bitcoin influencers seem to have no awareness about it. Its launching day one with clones of other chains but if nobody uses it, it's irrelevant. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Thank you for clarifying. I am a big supporter of simplex and everything you have been doing, I wish you could build this token system on top of Bitcoin. Unfortunately I know Bitcoin doesn't support the programmability you need for it, which is a shame. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 So we can clear this up, simplex is this you? Is this not developed on some non-BTC platform like ETH? My bad for confusing this with your current fundraising round, but the general point still stands if my understanding is correct. https://simplex.chat/credits/ npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Also I just read your IPFS criticisms after discovering you are one of the few devs on here who sees the potential of drivechains. re: IPFS limitations, look at freenet for solving the content addressable vs location addressable conundrum. Ian Clarke is doing some very compelling work there. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Web of trust would work if more clients implemented it, but afaict very few actually do. Same with PoW. Many clients let you add PoW to a note but don't automatically filter out non-PoW notes nor do they compute a "lifetime PoW" score for other users which would be much more useful than just the PoW from a single note. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 The fundraising ability, but being able to fundraise the way they wanted to required a higher level of programmability than Bitcoin offered npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Simplex had to use a shitcoin for their decentralized governance/fundraising because of Bitcoins limited program ability. Drivechains would have prevented them and most of the entire altcoin ecosystem from leaving BTC. BTC could have underpinned it all. Drivechains.info #nevent1q…dyuw npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 MoE can't happen with just L1 and lightning. We need drivechains or something else. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 I don't think so, but you can also access the electrum swap market on whales.exchange npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Not sure if Zeus swaps are online right now, but Electrum ones are! npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Aah I see thank you for explaining that. I think we already face this risk with things like liquid, wrapped BTC, etc. but maybe it would feel different w drivechains because those would be part of the core L1, not added on top. I find it difficult to imagine a situation where BTC reverses the chain if coldcard, mt gox, etc didn't cause a reversal. The coordination problems alone probably prevent that kind of coordinated activity in the first place. Even obvious wins like segwit and Taproot took years of fighting to get through. I definitely need to read up more on specific failure scenarios and how they would be handled. Most of them I've looked at so far are "yes this is bad but it's similar to existing risks we take" npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 I'm not sure I understand this point can you explain it more? npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Well the current peg-out arbiters are centralized exchanges, DEXes, and other systems. The value flows from BTC to other places where you can use your money in other ways. None of those systems are contributing much if anything to BTCs security budget. In drivechains, they would. All of the market cap and fees from Ethereum, monero, and other BTC competitors could be contained in the BTC ecosystem. Instead we have the current situation where there's more BTC wrapped into Eth than there is on the lightning network. And lightning has no way to scale to 8 billion users because every channel requires a utxo. All while we fight over the "right" way to manage L1 instead of letting different options compete simultaneously and letting users choose. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Miners provide security for L1 and that's important. It's important the security budget stays high enough to incentivize them. Miners deciding on a fork is an OR choice, made on behalf of the users. Miners deciding to add a sidechain is an AND choice, users use the sidechains only if they want. If you never use the sidechains, BTC works exactly the way it always has for you. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Both. Coordination is so difficult, we have no good voting mechanism aside from "core merged the pr" (terrible), hashrate, and UASF (unpredictable, dangerous). And also nobody wants to "try something new" on a monetary network storing the world's savings. But eventually we have to try new things or BTC will be outcompeted by chains that do. We can say "let other chains experiment, BTC will take the best features at the finish line and integrate them into BTC" but that hasn't been true for like a decade. But we all agree someone should be able to sell their BTC to buy fiat, shit coins, or whatever else they want. Drivechains just build that into the protocol, you can shuttle your BTC at your own risk onto a sidechain and back. Experiments are needed, altcoins will exist, with drivechains they are still tied to BTC and still fund Bitcoins security budget. All the while giving the user the choice of where to park their coins and letting the market decide gradually one tx at a time instead of during a dramatic fork event. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 The more I think about all the drama around bip110, the more I realize how much drivechains would have prevented it all. And the block size wars. Bitcoin was meant to be forkable so people could experiment with new ideas, but once it grew that became impossible. Convincing half the network and core to try new ideas is nearly impossible, even if those ideas are widely agreeable. It leads to inevitable holy wars. Drivechains solve this. And L1 scalability. It allows people to make side chains to try out new ideas while making sure it's still BTC and miners still get paid. Vitalik left BTC because there was no way to get smart contracts into core. Bcashers left because they wanted bigger blocks, BIP 110ers left because they wanted stricter rules. The brain drain is constant. With drivechains, altcoins and all the market value created/absorbrd could have been Bitcoin side chains, paying miners to keep the whole of BTC alive at the same time. Drivechains enable trying new things without the entire network having to agree at once. That's valuable and it's way more scalable than lightning. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Brutal but true. Bitcoin really needs to have the drivechain discussion. Or only banks will be able to afford an on-chain utxo, if it becomes the globally dominant currency at all. Because banks don't give AF if it's perfectly trust less, decentralized, and free. #nevent1q…8sgm npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 There isn't enough UTXO space for everyone in America to have a lightning channel, let alone the world. Channel factories help but nowhere near as much as is needed. What are the proposals that actually promise to scale L1? Because with current tech, the only people who will be able to access L1 after global adoption will be banks. Drivechains are the best proposal I've seen so far that doesn't result in increased centralization. What other options are there? #bitcoin #asknostr npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Looking forward to this article, been going through a similar transformation myself. Hashrate consensus, node count consensus, every form of consensus Bitcoin is based on said NO to BIP110. A UASF only works when the majority of important nodes signal they will fork, yet not a single major exchange or other provider even did that. Not coinbase, not kraken, not strike, not BTC pay Server, not Bisq, nobody. Most people opposed to BIP110, myself included, would have gone along with the new mechanics if BIP110 supporters had established hashrate dominance. But they didn't even come close. We need better processes for establishing consensus and experimentation. Core devs can't be the final word on anything. Drivechains help with this and are worth discussing. We are stronger together than apart. I hope big egos dont stop BIP110 supporters from seeing this. Bitcoin needs you too. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Currently, a minority cannot route around a majority of hashrate deciding anything. If the majority of hashrate wants to skip all blocks that contain a transaction they don't like, they can. Sure, your minority user can get their tx in a block but if the majority of miners conspire to not build on that block, that block becomes orphaned. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 My understanding is that if you want to move between bitcoins L1 and drivechains, miners have to sign off on that. Similar to how miners currently have to choose to include your transaction in a block. But my understanding is fairly limited. When I have taken the time to really sit down and read and reason through the proposal, all of it seems reasonable to me. My only real objection is that at some point some of these other drivechains may break off from Bitcoins side chain (if they become more profitable to mine than bitcoins original chain). But we already face that cost and pay it via people leaving Bitcoin for other chains that are more capable. At least drivechains peg them to Bitcoin mining and incentivize continued production of Bitcoin blocks. AND keep decision making power with miners, not some unelected federation like Bitcoin liquid or various l2 proposals. npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 We've all been joking about the BIP110 fork because it distracts us from eCash and drive chains, a fork that points out actual, significant problems with Bitcoin. That's uncomfortable. Drivechains offer workable solutions where Bitcoin doesn't continue to lose market share to chains that enable you to do more with your money, and do it easier. Lightning is not the final answer. Spark isn't either. "Unilateral exit" is not enough if there's not even space for even a small portion of humanity to unilaterally exit at once. Let's be real, if the globe adopts Bitcoin and this is all we have, only banks and other large actors will be able to afford an on-chain transaction. I'm not saying I support the eCash fork, I'm saying we absolutely need to be having that discussion and drive chains are closest I've seen to a proper solution to the L1 scaling issues. #bitcoin #drivechain #bip110 npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 #nevent1q…4tle npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 They win when we are apathetic. #nevent1q…f9ua npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 What a lucky woman npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Not enough dev fights for you? Why? Nostr is all about returning control to the user instead of platforms they don't control. When we do that, we give the user back their locust of control 🦗🤣 npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy 21_21_21 Most people think the negative consequence of caring about shit that doesn't matter is that it wastes your mental energy. Wrong. The loss of mental energy is only a minor downstream effect. The real cost is that you have surrendered your emotional state and your locus of control to an external force. People's opinions. Your boss's feedback. Your sports team's performance. What the news says. What some celebrity is wearing. How much money someone else has. Fuck it all. If it's not your fam, your goals, or your people, it's not worth it. Put your agency first and you'll discover powers you didn't know you had. Say "NO" more. Its a decentralized submarine swap portal. Many people use boltz to swap lightning to on chain and vice versa. While boltz is non-custodial, it is centralized. Electrum wallet introduced decentralized swaps (any wallet user can offer swaps via nostr). This site enables anybody, not just electrum wallet users, to be able to use those swaps.
