40 years ago the Apple Macintosh arrived.
I got mine in 1985, a pre-owned Mac 512, known as the Fat Mac, with dual floppy diskette drives and an ImageWriter dot matrix printer. All that for the impossible sum of $1,300.00 which I earned back doing Desktop Publishing gigs in the first two months.
Nothing and no one has had a greater impact on my life than the Mac.

Last year on Halloween, a friend told me about this new/old social media alternative to Twitter called #Mastodon where the rules made Nazis unwelcome. I had almost 4,000 followers on Twitter and I was starting the process of publishing my debut novel, but I liked the sound of that.

☝️ That's one way. I am making it up as I go along. I start with the assumption that a debut book probably doesn't make any money. I'm almost at the end of a fixed budget spent on a pre-release blog tour with @npub1j7m…g2gv, Amazon ads, BookBub, and Booksy. I also offered the digital ARCs on NetGalley and ran a give away on GoodReads.
Sounds like a lot. But it's never enough. The next phase is entering it into any awards I can qualify for.

You can't quite prepare your ego for the result of getting what you get when you publish a book. If it fails your ego will be knocked about. If it succeeds your ego will ALSO be knocked about. I finally watched Joker (2019). I avoided it for a long time because of the people I knew who really gravitated to it. They were the same people who had strong Trump leanings. The movie has that. There are scenes that could've been lifted from January 6th footage. But it's more than that and better.
It's dark and borders on toxic, but it tries to walk a fine line and succeeds.

The "spaceport" was a dodgy, low-rent nightmare, even Jim could sense that. His parents looked stressed. Ruthie's passport had expired on this contract. It was going to cost them something precious, money or gear or something.
As they got closer the engine test bunker erupted with a VN24 burn test. Loud, raucous burbling that made it impossible to hear anything. But it was warm and Jim was drawn to it while Mom and Dad went to barter.
