[@mgorny](https://social.treehouse.systems/@mgorny ) wrote an interesting blog about what #Gentoo is really about beyond "everything gets compiled".
It's not just about performance. It's about #independence from companies, #security, stability, flexibility, human-made code (#LLM contributions banned) and sustainability on older hardware.

:gentoo: Gentoo goes binary at @npub1yau…atjv
“The saga of official binary packages for #Gentoo #Linux”
🗓️ Sunday, 13:00–13:25
Gentoo’s move from purely source‑based installs to offering official #binary #packages has been a major milestone. Andreas K. Hüttel and Sam James will share how new formats, signing, automated rebuilds, and dedicated build hosts made it all work — and what’s coming next.
A great session for anyone curious about Gentoo’s evolution.

📣 Gentoo/SPARC update:
Due to limited SPARC-user-base, we will mark all sparc keywords as ~sparc starting 2025-09-01.
The ~sparc keyword will also be added to ACCEPT_KEYWORDS in the profile.
✅ No action needed from users.
🛠️ SPARC support is not being dropped —just shifting focus.
Thanks to everyone who supported #Gentoo/ #SPARC over the years! :gentoo:
