Labour seem to me to be addressing an accepted concern with a civilized approach. I think the concern is misplaced, but it can't be denied. Most 'working people' (me included) couldn't begin to run a government department. They might understand the poor, but would they know what levers to pull to help them? Pensioners were cosseted by the Tories at the expense of others. Triple lock pensions. Many own houses whose value rose hugely under Tories. The fuel allowance came in to balance tiny pensions of the time, and now the balance has changed. Labour need to sell the policy better, but we need to use our brains and rejoice that the wretched Tories are out.
