Stoneybatter Cat Crawl pictures.
1. Nala, who has her own cat sofa
2. Simba and Cat Crawl Organiser Sinéad
3. A friendly cat who was not actually part of the cat crawl
4. A black cat who paid us a visit and who might be cat crawl participant Bagheera or perhaps another cat entirely.

Interesting thread about the Jewish Labour Bund, a socialist and anti-Zionist movement that organised leftist Jews in Europe before Hitler and Stalin exterminated its members.

I'm not sure how I ended up on .ie. I think it might be someone's last Twitter post referencing it.

but definitely agree that .social is too big. They could really help by having a moratorium on new signups.

I think what is hard for some people is that if you don't go with .social it's not obvious where you should go. For Irish people mastodon.ie is the obvious one but I'm not sure there is an easy default choice for people in other locations.

I'm also fascinated by how the UK seems to have an endless stream of pensioners willing to be arrested over the Palestine Action ban, and that the UK government's proposed solution to this issue is to arrest more of them.

That's regardless of what you think about the subject of their protests.

2025-10-06 10:07:19 GMT

It strikes me that UK protests against the banning of Palestine Action are strange mirror images of Enoch Burke's school protest and an illustration of how things get a bit awkward when you have people who don't mind being arrested for their protests.

Ahoy there! Dublin listings spreadsheet update. I am experimentally leaving the Everything tab sorted chronologically but the detail tabs have the new stuff first. There are lots of horror events here thanks to the Bram Stoker Festival and the IFI's Horrorthon festival, but there are other things, including concerts by The Necromancer, Super Furry Animals, Kraftwerk & The Cure, lots of opera, etc. etc.

The British government is so concerned about Israeli actions in Gaza that they are about to sign a £2 billion contract with Israel's largest defence contractor. That'll show them.

Dublin Cat is a cat who sometimes appears outside our house and tries to invite himself in. Our cat does not like him.

I mean from the Saudis' point of view I can see why they would be so attached to selling oil, as petroleum exports have transformed the country in barely a hundred years from an impoverished backwater to an affluent wonderland. Wiser leaders might perhaps have invested that wealth in a way that allowed them to diversify their economy away from oil but it must be easy to just take the money and run.

Reports of mass deaths at the Hajj are horrific. I fear global warming might make the Hajj unviable when it falls in the summer, if it hasn't already made Saudi Arabia uninhabitable.
