I have gotten burned a couple times getting their "regular" shirts and discovering them to be a kinda blah heavyweight tee. npub1j2h3l3wu5c0hkjepdnefkx40y67ev5q7d4cq34ljmlwpduynvsnqyasm73 Jason Santa Maria I’m looking for some new t-shirt designs. I lean towards silkscreened prints over digital, generally not big brand stuff, usually more design/art/abstract/restuarants/games. Maybe I should just spread this around... npub1j2h3l3wu5c0hkjepdnefkx40y67ev5q7d4cq34ljmlwpduynvsnqyasm73 Jason Santa Maria I spilled two full gallons of wall paint on our floor last night when the box they were in ripped. Thankfully it was on wood and somehow didn’t get on anything else nearby. Just a huge puddle to sop up. I couldn’t stop saying “oh no!” over and over. 0 out of 5 stars, would not recommend. npub1j2h3l3wu5c0hkjepdnefkx40y67ev5q7d4cq34ljmlwpduynvsnqyasm73 Jason Santa Maria @nprofile…edye @nprofile…e9hc I think a useful context is right there on his site. For instance, the way these icons share a line quality with the type, and how that relationship remains across screen sizes. npub1j2h3l3wu5c0hkjepdnefkx40y67ev5q7d4cq34ljmlwpduynvsnqyasm73 Jason Santa Maria @nprofile…e9hc I agree the biggest gains are to be had with larger sizing. The system might get in the way at text sizes because at the end of the day, the text is just too heavy. But, I think Rob’s approach is more a proof of how far the concept can stretch (or not) rather than being strictly prescriptive. npub1j2h3l3wu5c0hkjepdnefkx40y67ev5q7d4cq34ljmlwpduynvsnqyasm73 Jason Santa Maria @nprofile…e9hc To each their own! I think this is a really interesting technique and one that I can find uses for, especially the sizing when combined with icons. npub1j2h3l3wu5c0hkjepdnefkx40y67ev5q7d4cq34ljmlwpduynvsnqyasm73 Jason Santa Maria @nprofile…e9hc I think that is the point — not about optical correction to give the impression of similar stroke width, but to create absolute stroke width. npub1j2h3l3wu5c0hkjepdnefkx40y67ev5q7d4cq34ljmlwpduynvsnqyasm73 Jason Santa Maria Loving Rob Weychert’s latest article about using variable fonts to achieve consistent stroke widths across type and screen sizes. And he extends it to icons too, making them feel like part of the same system, something I’ve always struggled with (the comparison to fineliner pens is spot on). I’m excited to try out these methods! npub1j2h3l3wu5c0hkjepdnefkx40y67ev5q7d4cq34ljmlwpduynvsnqyasm73 Jason Santa Maria I just heard about John Langdon’s passing last week. He’s best known for his amazing ambigrams, but was also an incredibly skilled draftsman and student of type history. I got to work with him years ago on a logo project and had a blast. He was warm, funny, and so kind with his knowledge. Rest in peace 💜 npub1j2h3l3wu5c0hkjepdnefkx40y67ev5q7d4cq34ljmlwpduynvsnqyasm73 Jason Santa Maria @nprofile…mwq7 🤯 npub1j2h3l3wu5c0hkjepdnefkx40y67ev5q7d4cq34ljmlwpduynvsnqyasm73 Jason Santa Maria @nprofile…d2d7 LOL I said thankless right after you thanked me and then you thanked me again.
