That’s because they will happily double park too. Most of drivers anyway. They can imagine themselves doing that. A main factor why Dutch cycling infrastructure is so good is because most drivers also ride bikes.
That’s also why double parked cars on Boylston Street are so frowned upon because most of them are food delivery workers. Not saying it’s right. But people will happily blame them because they don’t imagine themselves delivering food.

Tailscale has some quirks that wasted me almost an hour!! Once a machine is tagged it has very strict ACLs - tailscale treats that machine as owned by that tag, not a human any more. It is then by default forbidden to access other devices in the tailnet, unless explicitly allowed by an ACL.
So yeah, my main docker machine, which is tagged, suddenly lost internet access because it couldn't reach the pi for DNS 😅
I didn't know this until I forced tailscale reauthorizing (because the machine can ping the pi on local IP, but not tailscale IP) and it worked. However it did because reauthorizing removes the tag. Once I added the tag back, it stopped working again. 😅 Then I realized the strict default ACLs applied to tagged machines...

Steam won't use this new drive I mounted
So frustrating
It turns out the KDE partition manager uses 0 0 for dump / pass fields on fstab which by default adds noexec flag to the mount
So steam is able to write a new directory but won't show that in the app (so you can't install games on it)
You need to explicitly add "exec" in the mount option in fstab and then steam works

Yes! Took route 1A mostly from Ipswich all the way to Plum Island Turnpike. It was beautiful, still a lot of boats on the water. I was wondering if that river would freeze in the winter when we rode by.
I probably smelt the strongest manure near Newbury among all my rides, with a headwind blowing that smell from a farm down the road LOL.

2025-10-11 21:34:05 GMT

Made the ride from Boston to Plum Island and then Newburyport. Took MBTA commuter rail back to North Station.
72 miles very flat!
Tomorrow we have the first Nor'easter!
Plum Island is pretty cool, strong headwind heading south but that meant easy cruising on the way back. The several miles gravel added some excitement and fun to the ride. There was a section with pretty loose gravel but my 30mm road tires handled it just fine. Just need a bit bike handling skills!
But I didn't see any plum on Plum Island???

Boston Globe even failed to mention the cyclist was on the SIDEWALK when he was murdered by the driver, who drove his Mercedes SUV directly onto the sidewalk. If there were events like MIT commencement, there'd be easily crowds of people on the sidewalk, and the driver would kill many pedestrians.
Is it too much to ask cars to stay on the road?

I seriously hurt some bro's ego yesterday on the way back from my spontaneous ride to Lexington. I had my commute bike (it's actually a gravel bike) with a backpack rack, my work backpack, and big heavy puncture proof tires. And I was in civilized clothes. Heavy and not aero at all.
Some bros on Mass Ave were riding aggressively and fast, I figured I would try to see if I could keep up with them. I had never followed them closely to draft behind them by keeping at least 3 feet away, sometimes dropping further behind. But after half a mile or a mile or so, the bro realized I was still keeping up (he looked back), and he decided to blow up on Mass Ave during rush hour between Alewife and Porter, and blew past a red light. He almost got hit by a car, it was nerve wrecking even to watch, and he got yelled at by his buddy. I realized he was doing very aggressive and dangerous things so I let them go.
Hilariously I caught them up at Mass Ave Bridge inbound 😂 he was struggling on the inbound ascend and I could hear him talking with his buddy about me being as surprisingly fast as them, and what the hell they were doing 😂 then they continued to ride aggressively, just to be stopped by cars all the time. And he took a long time to clip in. He took the traffic lane instead of bike lane, which was fine, but his buddy almost ran into the concrete barrier following him and had to unclip and slow down. Thank god they took the Southwest corridor at Mass Ave T station so I didn't have to witness some dumbass behaviors.
Maybe they're too young to realize their life is more important than their ego? 😂😂😂

I drove the ICE pickup this time because the insane amount of luggages Josh's families had.. they're going on a cruise from Quebec city... But I did simulate the charging situation and observe the chargers along the stops.
Once you cross border into Quebec you have a ton of options - 50, 100 or 180kw and mostly FLO network - from my experience they're pretty reliable. The little town we stopped for gas has like 6 charging stations very close to each other with 2-4 chargers available each.
But the charging situation in NH / VT is not good. There're a few along the way (I-93 and I-91) but I doubt their reliability. The best option seems to be charging to 100% before leaving and top up at Concord NH (The one at the Ford dealer there seems to be good, 10/10 plug share score) or St Johnsbury VT and try to conserve energy driving through white mountains.

2025-05-29 11:58:44 GMT

I have a Mazda CX-30 rental for the week... GEEZ it really sucks to drive that thing... The transmission just doesn't know what to do most of time...
Maybe if you want smooth and great power delivery when driving and can't afford a flat six with PDK, just buy an EV 🫢

university led research has always been the frontier of scientific research throughout history so I’m sure it has been through up and downs. It’s driven by humans nature - the curiosity and the desire for exploration. The hostility of the current administration towards science can’t stop that.
