The slippery slope in this case, as often happens, comes from players being stupid enough to demand for and then buy microtransactions for shit like that. They must have seen how many character editing vouchers they sold, and thought to themselves "hmm, what if we added it into the game in a way where that was the only option for the players?"

You can change your hair, maybe some tatoos/makeup, and that's about it. The other features you picked up when creating the character (gender, height, skin color, etc) are set in stone. I always thought of it as a design choice ("verisimilitude" is a really neat term that people, specially gamers, should learn), and always thought that they only added the character edit vouchers because people whined about it.

To be completely honest, I'm not too fond of going to church and attending mass. I find it boring and too long and I get tired and annoyed and can't really stand it.
Despite that, every year I travel 200 miles to spend Christmas with my family, and every year on the 24th I attend mass with my mom in a small cozy sanctuary in a Clarisse nuns convent that there is in her town, because she loves this place and she enjoys seeing the family gathered together at mass, and I'd rather see my my mom happy than being a retarded little dipshit redditor.
And that's a lesson the spergs on Twitter should very well learn too.
So, I wish to all the frens and frendettes of fedi a Merry Christmas. Try to spend it with your family if you can, and remember that rather than the consumerist holiday that it was pushed, Christmas is a time for renewal, introspection, forgiveness and, more importantly, celebration. I sent them a message saying that I was going to start cleaning everything up very early in the saturday morning, and that I would throw every food that looked too old and any pots and pans that were in the sink instead of cleaned up and stored in their place. They could save anything they didn't want thrown out by cleaning it and storing it in it's place. And then I did it, and threw a shit ton of stuff away..
It was a tiring weekend, but it was deeply satisfying.
I also bought a rice cooker, and I told them that if I ever walked into the kitchen in the morning and saw it sitting there with cold rice inside, or saw it's dirty inner pan thrown into the sink with a bit of water inside, I'd put it in the middle of the kitchen and light it on fire.
So far it has worked to make then clean it up and store it every time they use it.

What gave me that it was Portugal's Portuguese was the relatively formal way it was presented (IDK how to explain it, but Portugal's Portuguese for us sounds a bit "formal", even in contexts where it isn't. It's like when Americans can identify an English person by the way they write).
Also, "actuar" is the Portuguese spelling of the word, in Brazil we cut off the "c", so it's just "atuar". Also, "atuar" (which would be "to act") for us is more used in the context of artistic acting. When a person is just being something (like, "acting like a woman"), we use "agir" (which also translates as "act"), or just use "ser" (to be).

Decided to start a new run, on completely default settings (I usually play on rail worlds because I like trains).
No mods or anything because I play this game once every blue moon, so I never remember how stuff works and I don't want to put mods and increase the complexity (or put mods to make things even easier).
Checking my blueprint book, I have some modular base designs I have created a long time ago (you can just keep joining them together to create most, if not all the things you need to launch the rocket), which tends to be my go-to way of playing, but I also created some designs that fit in 100x100 tiled "city blocks" and I really didn't play much with because by the time I did it I was already bored of the game.
So, the idea now is to start with the city blocks build from the ground up, or at least pivot to it early enough in the game so that it won't be a chore to redesign everything, and then turn this planet into a hellscape of concrete and metal, because THE FACTORY MUST GROW.
Maybe I'll check for some cosmetic mods just to change the game's vibe, but other than that, I have no intention of running shit like Krastorio or the other turbo autism mods.

Hell's Kitchen also had this, and I remember seeing some participants coming after their NDA clauses expired and saying that they were asked/forced to do some shit by the producers to create drama for the ratings. Actually, unless I'm mistaking it with some other program, I think there's even some drama where the finals were rigged and a guy was made to lose because the producers, Gordon and presumably the public liked the girl better.

The Invincible is a 1964 science fiction book written by Stanisław Lem, a Polish science fiction writer.
It's a "hard science fiction" work, so it's relatively grounded in reality. In it, a team of astronauts land on a Mars-like planet where the only surviving "lifeform" is a cloud of nanomachines that assemble in simple formations that mimic flora and low level life forms, but when threatened they can assemble in large clouds and use electromagnetic shit to screw up with the threat.
The spaceship is attacked, the astronaut crew (all male) suffers from amnesia due to them being forcefully awakened from their hibernation, they try to attack the machines, a lot of people die, they realize it's no use since the machines are perfectly integrated in the planet ecology, a guy goes into the midst of the "enemy territory" to rescue some crew members that are lost there (spoiler: they are all dead), he's not attacked because he's a calm dude and the nanomachines don't perceive him as a threat, and the book is basically a treaty on what is life, what's the place of different lifeforms in the universe and what kind of evolution took place in the planet to have nanomachines as the apex lifeform. Dense, but good.
The Invincible is also a <current year> game which is an "adaptation" of the book. In it, you control a hysterical woman who is part of the crew in the planet, and she goes around panting and screaming while saving crew members and focusing on the interpersonal relationships with them, because we live in the worst timeline where absolutely everything must be ruined and turned into goyslop.

So much that, IDK if you remember the "Pink Sauce" lady, which was all the rage on Tik Tok about a year ago and then she tried to comercially release the pink sauce and there were all sorts of problems.
Sure, there were a lot of problems with quality control, the FDA thing and she was a PR disaster, but one of the biggest causes of drama surrounding the pink sauce was that it used only natural products, and it relied on the natural properties of the products for preserving and for stabilizing the emulsion. And people couldn't wrap their minds around it, there were a lot of youtubers and tik tokers lambasting the product and saying that the label was wrong because there was simply no way that she made ranch sauce using only oil, milk, citric acid, spices and dragonfruit powder, where were all the artificial stabilizers and preservants that surely would be needed? How dare she put out a food product that has less than 20 listed ingredients? Also, since it didn't use any artificial coloring and no stabilizers for the color, with time it became more of a pastel pink color instead of the bright pepto-bismol appearance it had in the viral videos, and, since it was a natural product, there were some differences in hue between different bottles. People used to natural products are used to these small differences (the cheese pictures I've sent are all in different hues and color intensities), but Americans were completely flabbergasted by these differences.
Then, I remember seeing a video of a food scientist talking about the situation, showing how each ingredient used in the sauce did the part of a stabilizer/conservant/colorizer and actually making it at home by using the same ingredients listed.
Again, the product had many problems. The pink lady had absolutely no idea how to industrially make a food product, she had no idea how regulations worked and her idea of "good PR" was acting like a bitch, completely unaware that while this type of behavior gets you lots of "likes" in tik tok, in real life people don't take too kindly to it. But a sauce manufacturing company took over the reins and released the pink sauce following all the correct procedure, and people where still screeching that the product had hue differences and didn't have 30 different chemicals inside it.
So, yeah. The product failed and the pink sauce lady lost everything (I've been following her drama lately because a lot of youtubers are documenting it). In part due to her hubris, bitchiness and her being dumb as fuck, but also in part because stupid people couldn't fathom a natural product without a shit ton of artificial shit inside.

@npub1st2…2wu9 yeah, around here you can't just leave the bike wherever because to be able to create an account and use the service you need to put your personal info (including our "national person registry number" which is needed for everything to opening bank accounts to using public services) and a valid credit card, and the fines and extra charges are relatively brutal.
For instance, if you extrapolate the time limit to put the bike back on a spot, they start charging you by the minute, and in around 2 hours of that, the charge easily surpasses the cost of an annual pass.

In the city I live there is a "bike rental system" done by a company with support of the town hall, there are a bunch of rental spots scattered through the city, you download an app and you use it to unlock the bike, and then you can deposit it again in any other spot. You can pay for each ride, or you can make a subscription, daily, monthly, yearly, whatever.
It's very convenient because you can just put the bike anywhere there is a "rental spot", not worrying about it being stolen or shit like that, and it ends up being cheaper than buying your own bike + maintenance, so our version of "doordash" delivery guys usually deliver using bikes, and they use these rental bikes.
One caveat this system has, though, is that to avoid dipshits hoarding the fucking bikes the entire day, you have a time limit for each time you use the bike, around one hour, then you need to deposit the bike at a spot and wait a few minutes before you're able to unlock another one.
So, most often than not, you call for some food when you are hungry, you get pretty happy because it's going to be delivered soon, and then when you look at the map and the GPS thing showing you were your delivery guy is, you notice he's been 10+ minutes stopped in the middle of nowhere, because they are waiting to be able to unlock the fucking bike, and then he shows up at your door half an hour after he picked the food bag from the place, and deliver to you a soggy bag full of cold food, with a smile on their face.
I don't tip those guys.

The game has a pretty powerful tool for creating scenarios and campaigns, and there is a big community of people who create modules for it, so you can play a lot more campaigns than the ones the devs put in the game.

Because D&D is notorious for completely breaking up and losing any semblance of balancing at high levels.
To do D&D at high levels in a decent manner, you have to do stuff like the Neverwinter Nights expansion where you invade the Underdark alone to kill nasty things and then start traveling through the planes to punch demons and gods on the face, and everything is so over the top that it kinda works.

@npub1vuz…luu6 my analysis as an old school CRPG and tabletop RPG player, and also of some friends who also also ate old school players, BG 3 is overhyped. Way overhyped.
And we think that part of it is all the gay and ugly stuff they shoved in the game (the sexuality doesn't appeal to "the male gaze", therefore it's good in journos, faggots and shitlibs opinion), but also, and I think that's even more important, due to the fact that it seems zoomers have never played a single CRPG in their life, so they are completely mind blown that you have different dialogue options and those actually change something in the game.

Rant post again? Rant post again (honestly, it was not supposed to be a rant post, I was just going to show the cool game I'm playing, and then it turned into a rant and I decided to keep it like that).
I was in a mood to play some ARPG, and instead of wasting money on Diablo 4 or stressing myself out with the endless autism of Path of Exile, I decided to fire up Grim Dawn again.
It's at the same time a nice throwback to what gaming was a few years back, and also a sad reminder of what we lost.
An offline-first, single player-centric ARPG, with sane drop rates, a nice challenge, good build variety and more importantly, without microtransactions and all the annoyances games with microtransactions bring with them (and that conveniently can be solved with said microtransactions).
I can respec my skill and my devotions points somewhat effortlessly (there is a cost that can become very steep if you are rebuilding your whole character, but it's still better than paying 30 bucks for the super special gems that allow you one respec point or some bullshit like that. I can easily use "illusions" to apply skins and make my equipment look like other equipment to make a cool character (I'm not doing this right now because I'm leveling up and changing my equipment every 15 minutes). I have a good amount of inventory space, that gets increased as I proceed in the campaign, and I have a huge amount of stash space, both for the character and also a shared stash, instead of having to pay a gorillion bucks for stash space or worse, for "specialized inventory space". I can forge stuff instantly and without a risk of failure.
It really makes me look at the annoyances Path of Exile puts on me every time I play it, and then reconsider why the fuck do I ever play that, the game is completely hostile to the player, and it's not even a thing like "oh, it's because it uses the same roots management that the OG Diablo and DIablo II games used", because that's not what the game is about, the game is way more fast paced and full of bullshit than D1 and D2 ever were, and the only reason for making me play Tetris with my inventory and stash is because they want me to buy stash tabs. The only reason the characters look like hobos is because they want to sell me skins. The only reason they introduce a stupidly shitty and convoluted system every season with a dozen new currencies and special thingamagibs to use the system is because they want to sell me the overpriced specialized stash tab that holds all the bullshit of said system in an organized manner.
And of course, this is not a problem that exists uniquely in PoE. Absolutely every "mmorpg" or "online-centric" game suffers from this. Last Epoch, which is a game that many people compare with Grim Dawn, didn't even leave Early Access yet and already has microtransaction packs that cost double the price of the game. And this already killed all my will to buy the game, because I know it will introduce annoyances just to justify people buying the microtransaction packs and premium game currency. And don't even get me started on gacha games.
Even Warframe, which is a game I genuinely enjoy, and that I think has the most user-friendly microtransaction based model in the market right now, still has a bit of this, with the 24 hours forge time and shit like that.
People went so hard against the "P2W" games, that developers turned around and turned it into "pay for convenience", and players absolutely swallowed it thinking it was a way better deal because it meant "even if you are f2p you can still do everything", not realizing that as soon as players started paying for convenience, games started going out of their way to inconvenience the player.
And of course, even single player, offline games nowadays are released with a bunch of missing stuff that is conveniently added soon after the release as "DLCs".
I miss the time when we bought games and the only thing we were expected to buy again was an expansion pack released a year later with a new campaign and a bunch of extra classes/characters to play. I miss when skins and cosmetics were something you just unlocked in game by playing or by inputing "cheat codes" instead of inputing your credit card number. I miss when the special character was something you unlocked after beating the game on expert mode, instead of it being a day 1 DLC that costs half the price of the base game. I miss wanting an item and only needing to farm a boss a few times, or a specific type of creature for some minutes (or even better, having said item being a specific drop/loot from a specific point of the game) instead of having to resort to the autcion house and buy it from other players because the devs balanced the drop rates at 0,00000001% to take into account the amount of people farming and avoid "flooding the market".
And honestly speaking, we can't even say "at least there's indie games". Because even indie games are doing this bulshit too. Microtransactions/DLCs (honestly, DLCs are most often than not just microtransactions) are an easy way for devs to get money, releasing half a game and then making players bleed money on DLCs to get the complete experience. Like if McDonald's started selling the Big Mac with only 2 buns and 1 patty, and then expecting the customers to shell more for the other patty, the cheese, the lettuce, tomato, onion, picles and special sauce.
