I think this story maybe missing one very big reason #Europeans don't want to visit the #usa at the moment.
Of course there is some resentment, but there's a bigger portion of concern I think.
We don't feel as safe going through us airports as we used to.
I don't want to be treated like a suspect when I travel. In fact I won't put up with that.

As an aside, #fedilab the #android app, seems to have it's own built in #translation which seems to be really accurate, but then @npub14kx…urew also used quite a few server tricks of it's own so I can't be sure.
I wish I could find a desktop app that was as good, in several respects actually. But I still prefer a large screen most of the time, and #senji uses your browser's translate, which is also fine most of the time.

The #fediverse is a fascinating place. I was using #nostr and came across a post by @npub1dnd…hzjs but I couldn't reply to it on Nostr and I couldn't find it on #mastodon
I suppose technically this isn't a fediverse issue as it isn't really related to the way #activitypub works, but rather more related to the way bridges work.
Now I'm guessing this occurred because the post in question was deleted by Charlie (though I saw nothing untoward about it) or because it was a very good imposter on Nostr.
If it's the latter , it doesn't explain why the post seemed to come from Mastodon, albeit not from Charlie's usually address.
If it's the former then that is more understandable but maybe worrying, because it means deletions on Mastodon are not respected elsewhere.
Now Charlie being charlie, there's no way he isn't already aware of this, but I think it might be worth spreading the word to others.

I don't think the #signalapp moment has arrived yet is all.
Up til now it's just worked for most people and it's always been honest about what it does.
Unlike many other similar centralised entities, they've never pretended to be decentralised in any way.
The moment might arrive if the #UK really does start a war on ##e2ee and #encrypted #messengers generally.
It will be easy for the government here to block #signalapp but relatively hard to block #apps like #matrix, #simplexchat and #xmpp.
Then people will start to see the difference in concrete.

The main personal doubt I have with quoting is this.
I have my expiry set to two weeks. what will happen to my posts if someone quotes them?
I would definitely still expect them to expire. I wouldn't expect quotes to forcibly preserve my posts.

It isn't so much I think it's a bad thing as I just don't want every site to be the same.
#misskey and #qoto already have #quotes and so does #bluesky
It's feature #homogeneity I'm against. I don't want every sire to work the same way.

I think that's the main reason I use #xmpp. I can switch seamlessly from #Gajim on my #desktop to #conversations on my phone and even #MoveIM on my #Chromebook

I'd say it's more than a hedge. I'm on both sites but I see a lot more of your posts on #mastodon because following tags actually works here.
I've never actually come across you on #bluesky. It seems like #interests work with those #starterpacks over there, but a lot of those groups contain absolute nonsense, completely irrelevant people.
I feel like those packs work more like mates promoting mates, so not at all basically.

Difficulty aside, I think I'd prefer the #plugins route.
It would allow for the natural growth of #moderation.
Otherwise, we'd probably have people delaying #updates they didn't want and ultimately more forks.
Thats what seems to happen when people are split here.
I also think the #argument for #plugins is harder to argue against.

I only buy #secondhand #phones. New ones are environmentally destructive for no good reason.
Most working phones do all the mobile tasks anyone needs and have done for some time.
Vanity is the only reason to buy a new one. Very few people really need the Satellite add-ons.

Well these are my uninformed thoughts.
The women's game will probably be a positive influence for a while, but once the #money comes in the money will change them.
Just look at the lack of cusading in the women's tennis game, Serena aside.
The rich #tennis players know where their bread is buttered, just like the men.

If these people really believed this they should be anti guns because weapons clearly change that ratio, even on its own terms.
When you have a woman with 20 20 vision and man with imperfect vision, and they both have guns, its the man who's physically vulnerable in this scenario.

I honestly still rate #Pele #1 and my reason is #innovation.
Pele more or less invented the modern player. Everyone else just perfected what he did.

The problem with #threads is, they don't mind people coming in but they don't want them going out.
This has led to a lot of admins reciprocating, probably applying a lot more resistance than Zuck expected, I'll bet.
So I think they'll be half in half out long after #Nostr and #mastodon have meshed.

This is why I distrust social science data. It's even harder than physical sciences to discover mistakes because it's never acid tested until some assays it themselves.
In physics, you usually find the error because it stops working :)
