I’ am fraud that you are right.
I’m just looking for less drama. I have plenty of that already in my life and could use less of it on my hobbies and work related environments…
Plus BSD does seems to be like a more stable ground for me to feel at ease with the tools I use.

I suppose you are not aware that the origin of fascism stems from socialist and syndicalism movements.
So yeah while fascisms today is associated to the right its origin is rooted in the left.

It seems the Linux community is once again in the middle of a sort of political battlefield. The left vs the right. Omarchy vs… I don’t know … the left.
I’m tired of it. I don’t like the right and I don’t like the left. I’m tired of being in the middle and taking shit from both sides.
I don’t care about anyone’s political views. I just want my system working and so far between the two of them are making Linux more divisive. (1/2)

I kinda stopped sharing my art on Meta platforms. The communities there are even more toxic than in X in my opinion. Way more superficial and a lot more annoying
I stick to X because I have a solid base of clients from there but I would definitely like to focus only on Mastodon and the fediverse. (1/2)

You know, that’s one of the reasons I am not so happy about the whole Wayland situation. I don’t really care about the architectural choices except for the fact that I want things to work.
But with Wayland I won’t be able to use the Desktop environment (or WM) I want. I would have to stick to Plasma if I want to have all the feature needed for my art process (not a bad DE by any means but not my choice) (1/2)

For example I stopped using KDE plasma, not because it was bad. It is actually pretty good. But every decision made in the project that goes against my own interests is harder to overcome/workaround than let’s say on something like DWM or OpenBox
It does have a huge upfront investement though but I think it was worth it (2/2)

Im curious, did you ever considered other “stable” alternatives like OpenSuse Leap or AlmaLinux/Rocky Linux?
For a while now (except for that stupid lapsus in which I decided to try Testing last week) I’ve been more and more inline with the idea that old software will give me less “surprises”
And that smaller projects may provide a better “long term” investment in the end… (1/2)

I dare to say that the fact your article crashed your server due to the load of visitors it got you, means that there is more people experiencing the same kind of pains with the whole X11/Wayland drama than what most developers cared to imagine. I wish this could be used as evidence to make them conscious of the needs of the art community in Linux

This is amazing. Can’t wait to see it and know your experience with Wayland. I tired Fedora 44 this week and although it went well I couldn’t do color calibration on my displays (probably my fault)
Also with Nvidia cards there is some lag when painting. Not sure if it’s due to Lrita being on XWayland or what.

I think I want to build my next desktop pc. Any component recommendations for best #Linux compatibility?

I think I’m fed up with gmail. Besides YouTube (as there is no other clear alternative), gmail is the only thing I use form them.
But it seems they are making it harder and harder to even consider their products as “reasonable”.
Is there any good alternative? Proton Mail and the whole suite seems like a nice thing but is it worth it?

Actually this seem like the perfect opportunity for an upgrade. I was really trying to do it for a while and actually found your reviews of the Xp pen artist 19 and Huion Kanvas 19 very helpful.
So I’ll just lie to myself and say there is no other option but to get a new tablet 😬😬

An update on this:
There are good news and bad news.
The good news is this is not yet another Linux issue I need to spend time trying to fix.
The bad news is the tablet/pencil is broken as it seems to happen on Mac OS with the proprietary drivers as well

Although the project has gone in a direction I no longer want to move to, Fedora is still a special project for me. It’s the first FOS project I ever contributed and I learned a lot there.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this release and thank you for constantly pushing forward the Linux ecosystem.

Well, is not so much about comfort and habits. (and please allow me to ask as I may be taking this the wrong way, but was it sarcasm?) but about being productive and using the software I consider the best for the task. (No I don’t think X11 is the best but most of the software that run only on it is)

Gnome and Kde will be fine for sure, maybe even XFCE. But smaller window managers will suffer. I use DWM or Xmonad and I doubt they will ever be ported to Wayland. I could use Sway or Hyperland (yet another troublesome project owner it seems) but still I would not benefit from things like gsetwacom or ktabletconfig. Quite likely I may not benefit either from the Color Management implementations done by every DE, and xiccd is out of the question as it is X11 dependent. (3/4)

The biggest issue I have is not really Wayland. Wayland is just a protocol meaning that every desktop environment will need to implement it to have a “Wayland implementation”. As you may know this means the every implementation is desktop dependent and so every one is maintained separately. (2/4)

I really don’t find technical issues with what Xlibre is doing. I reviewed the changes in their latest release and tried out te code successfully with an Arch Linux install. Regarding the ethics, well I don’t agree with the Xlibre project leader in many, many things. But this is common with many other projects that both think different to what I believe both technically, ethically and politically (Debian, and Fedora project included) (1/4)

Once again I find myself in the position of having to search for a new distro.
One that will make it a priority to use XLibre when X11 is deprecated for good.
Do I like the XLibre project and his maintainer. Not particularly. But I am one of the, apparently, rare cases in which Wayland is not an option.
So when major distros drop support to X11 my work setting will be pretty much broken. And I’m sure as hell Debian will also drop support for it in future releases (if not 13, 14 will be)
