I glue badly written software to other badly written software, in an attempt to get it to do something useful. Sometimes it even works!

important to note that, if you wait until symptoms appear, it's too late.

isn't this shit the whole reason they did the CTRL-ALT-DEL to login thing?
Guess they probably should have kept that...

got the same. Important extra bit:

It's still stinky, but less so than you made it seem.
I can confirm my opt-out was still in-effect, for what that's worth.

the anti-dei stance taken by the US government that this decision is relating to isn't trying to fix what you have observed, it's in service of trying to move us to an apartheid system. They're misusing and redefining words to this end.
Your words here are a good example of why that tactic is used - it works.

"trillion" isn't really a useful unit as far as data rate goes. Why not use the standard prefixes for data rates?

fun as it is, don't answer these even like this. All it does is confirm your number is a live person for further attacks (which may not be as obvious).

be very cautious about using cheap or free VPNs. If you choose poorly, you'll sacrifice even more privacy (while at least narrowing who gets the juicy details). They are not silver bullets.

for clarity re: Firefox
It can actually do this if you want it to, but the default is, I believe, to try https first and quietly fall back unless the user specified http.
This is new behavior and seems like a sane way to do it, too.

"dumb" has a bit of a complex etymology. Only about half of it comes from being mute (Norse/Gothic), the other origins (German/Dutch) literally come from words meaning "stupid."
For what it's worth, in my nearly 40 years I don't think I have ever heard or seen it being used as an ablist insult, and only rarely used in the "unable to speak" meaning (mostly as "dumbstruck" but sometimes as a neutral descriptor). Edit: this would also be my first time seeing the claim it was ablist language. Literally my first.
I'd be interested to know of contrary experiences - I'm not trying to say you're wrong, but I'm doubtful enough about it that I feel the need to speak up because of your tone, there. I think you're being unfair.

at that point, though, you might as well buy hardware and do it yourself locally. Then, at least, you get to keep it until it's too old to trust.
While you have to pay for space and power, those are orders of magnitude less expensive than the ongoing costs of using cloud resources... once you have paid for the hardware anyway.
The only real benefit to using cloud services that remains after taking both the expertise and cost factors out is geographical diversity - something you can still handle yourself.

#fediblock this one turns into a complete asshole about alt text (and it's in their profile bio too): @npub1fc4…nrvd
"I don't do Alt text - don't ask me to. If you want to do it for me, that's your prerogative. I don't print my posts in Braille either"
Quoted this to someone they were rude to and called it a shit take, got a rude remake back and a block.

the same thing that makes them good for AI makes them good for other parallel problems.
Think particle simulation, protein folding, etc.
They won't be useless, just not useful in the home / home-lab.
