I think what’s happened over the past few weeks and will continue to happen is a good wake-up call to the community. I think we’re getting organized, slowly, but it’s happening. Ok, no more vanity posts about my home mining experience! But on a serious note, the ability to play even a small part in supporting a decentralized global network from your house, without asking permission from anyone is a truly amazing experience. You can’t feel it unless you try it.
We all have differing levels of technical ability, but the market has given us the ability, even for just a few dollars and regardless of our technical ability, to participate.

My hash rate contributions were small, really don’t know what I’m doing, and I definitely talked more shit than anything else. But it was still freaking cool!

Agreed, there are still a lot of good people in government who respect the oaths they took when they entered on duty and try to do the right thing for the country. This is precisely why I think there’s a political fight to be won. Just think how far the needle has moved over just a few years on so many issues in a short amount of time. That needle goes both ways. I think we focus too much on unseen or hidden forces when the reality is DC is driven by power and politics. Those motivations always win out. The forces working against Bitcoin aren’t somehow inherent to DC’s political culture- they were nurtured and supported by a class of special interests. The problem is that up until now, there hasn’t been an effective counterbalance.

I feel like Bitcoiners understand the wave of regulatory challenges coming our way. I also see some great efforts to educate lawmakers and regulators about what this ecosystem is all about. But where I feel like we’re failing is the political organization side of things.
We forget how susceptible lawmakers are to pressure - especially in an election year. We forget how much pressure vulnerable lawmakers can put on regulators. We forget the
impact of several thousand calls and emails to lawmakers office.
With all due respect to @npub1sg6…f63m , this is not about law and order absolutists prevailing. One only need look at the lawlessness overtaking so many communities. This is about political control - power. Bitcoin threatens the power of the regulatory class. But Bitcoiners can threaten the power of the political class.
By the smallest estimate, there are 26 millions Bitcoiners in the US. Much smaller constituencies have moved political mountains. And we can do so as responsible members of our communities.
Most of you might hate it, but we need to get into the political fight. We talk about self custody, sovereignty. It’s time we actively stick up for these principles in the public square.

I guess so? The chip temperature never got above 56C, and the hash rate never really spiked above 800 gh/s. And even that high, it usually quickly stabilized.
It could also be that the Wi-Fi connection slips. Even when it reboots, it’s back hashing and connected to @npub1qtv…7dze in 1-2 minutes. All in all, it’s a hardy little worker.

I had a few reboots at this setting, so pushing the core voltage back to 1166 at 500 Mhz. Stable so far at 500 - 600 gh/s.
Yeah, I know, I'll never get a payout. Not worried about that, just happy to toss in my few nickels toward decentralization.
And I kinda also like talking trash, now that I'm a new Bitcoin miner and all..:)

I grew up in New York, and I hate to say it, I can't bear going back. The deterioration really upsets me, seeing places I grew up in reduced to filth and chaos. I still have strong emotional ties to the city, but not strong enough to suspend good sense.
Completely random - I found myself in Milwaukee for a conference, an unexpected surprise. Clean, vibrant, with that very unique early 1900s architecture. I might not visit in January....but in September, it was fabulous.
Stayed at The Trade, Marriott Autograph. Super slick.....

I spent a lot of my professional life overseas, primarily in developing countries. One of the constants in these places was failing or unreliable institutions, subject to the whims of elites. Institutions are supposed to represent order and allow people to reliably inform their behavior. When they start to fail, the societal corrosion becomes exponential. Our "elites" seem to fail to understand the implications corrupting institutions out of parochialism, ideological motivations, or plain old greed. It's not as if humanity hasn't heard this song before on many occasions throughout history.

Caught up with some friends who work in cyber security. They're not Bitcoiners, but they have a good understanding of how the protocol functions. We had a long discussion about security, and how Bitcoin could be attacked from a purely technical perspective. One issue that took up a lot of discussion was the DNS seeds and hard-coded seed nodes, and whether those represented a vulnerability. We all went back and forth.
