In case you didn’t notice the rise of fascism in your home country or the genocideS, the days of staying away from politics are over. Use your voice. I’m a data engineer in Germany. My academic background is in deep learning, but I switched careers. I’m anti “AI” and surveillance. Capitalism always results in fascism b/c it demands infinite growth on a finite planet. If you believe that communism is anti-democratic, you were lied to about what communism means. Israel is committing genocide.

Last Notes npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley In Europe, Doctolib is a software that helps doctors manage their patients' appointments and sends the patients reminder messages for their appointments. A calendar software for doctors, basically. Doctors can also add their notes to Doctolib, like the reason for the visit: depression, ear infection, warts, sexually transmitted disease, you name it. Doctolib trains their own LLM on that highly sensitive data, and does all sorts of other disgusting shit with it. Recently Nvidia partnered with Doctolib. Doctolib tries with all sorts of trickery to weasel out of the GDPR so that they legally may do whatever they want with your health data. It's disgusting. Just today I went to have my blood checked, for my vitamins B and D values. (I'm a vegetarian.) And it was really hard to find a doctor who doesn't use Doctolib. I refuse to go to doctors who sell my data to "AI" companies or use it to become one themselves. #nevent1q…vxqs npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley Anthropic made: - 1.5 billion USD losses in 2023 - 8.3 billion USD losses in 2024 - 42.0 billion USD losses in 2025 - 80.7 billion USD losses in the first half of 2026 alone - losses in every year since its founding Per its own admission, Anthropic may never be profitable. But "the genie is out of the bottle, it can't be put back into the bottle." "AI is here to stay." It's very intelligent of business leaders to fire the only people who still understand their codebase and have the institutional knowledge of how their employer's business works. #nevent1q…u2j4 npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley The fridge manufacturer Danfoss basically configures its fridges with the username/password combination admin/admin. A supermarket in France negligently made its fridges directly accessible from the internet … and was unsurprisingly "hacked" by someone guessing the username/password combination. The sensational media inflated the attack to "the biggest cyber ever" and spoke of swarms of autonomous AI agents. LinkedIn is now full with grifting security vendors trying to sell useless expensive "AI" protection measures to brain-dead C-level executives who now are scared to shit of autonomous AI agents raiding their business but who have never talked with an actual software engineer they employ. Did I summarize this correctly? 🤦🏻♂️ To cut losses, the competent people who could have told the CEO that this is unnecessary will probably have their free beverages taken away from them, or 10% of the workforce will be fired. "It hurts us more than it hurts you." #nevent1q…sqvz npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley "AI" companies are companies such as OpenAI or Anthropic. These are billion dollar companies. Training LLMs requires *massive* amounts of resources that regular people or small companies who aren't already funded with billions of dollars, simply don't have. It's not that Mom and Pop can start a company, make a business out of training "AI", and make a living being their own bosses. Allowing anyone to train "AI" on copyright-protected content benefits *only* the billion-dollar companies and cements the stranglehold on power they already have. It benefits nobody else. If I purchase a paperback book, I may post a photograph of one page or so for a book review. That is considered fair use. If I upload photographs of all pages and thus reproduce the book in its entirety, I'll quickly hear from lawyers. What is different when "AI" companies integrate the copyrighted book in its entirety into its corpus and the reproduce it? Today's "AI" companies should be abolished. Certainly not allowed to train on copyrighted material, which benefits only them. And they'll pull up the ladder behind them. I distinguish between "AI" companies and AI companies. Anyone can train a Convolutional Neural Network and then run it on $100 hardware for object detection to activate the cat food dispenser when the camera sees the cat enters the room, or detect when the delivery guy delivered a package at the front door and send a notification to Home Assistant if you're not at home. Nobody except Big Tech can train a LLM. The @nprofile…fu0r asks for our opinion. Be sure to use the URL they provided, don't just comment in a Mastodon reply. #nevent1q…6qhg npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley The gas-fired power plants for just the planned "AI" data centers yet to be built (not even including anything already existing) will emit as much greenhouse gasses as the entire UK. #nevent1q…0km4 npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley Anthropic's entire loss for 2025 was $42 billion. But as some tech bros recently explained to me, making losses is just how you become successful in capitalism, a good business practice. Making losses is good actually. Your losses will someday somehow magically turn into profits, don't you know? That's why 100 of every 100 startups succeed and why venture capitalists cast such wide nets. Don't you worry about finances. The more losses you make the better, actually. If you think making losses in the billions is a sign of failure, you're uneducated and don't understand how to successfully run a business. Losses are profits. War is peace. #nevent1q…rqm2 npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley The Vice President of the European Commission. A constructive step towards peace would be if Israel stopped committing genocide. Call it a genocide, Kaja, it's not a war. How about Israel withdrew from Gaza about 80 years ago, not "eventually"? How about rather than helping Gaza to "recover" after they've been exterminated, you do something to stop Israel *now*? Trump also has some plans to help Gaza "recover" after the "war". And how about doing something against European countries like Germany continue exporting weapons to Israel? Aid in through the front door, death in through the back door? But you don't even try to push to sanction Israel, because that would require a unanimous vote from European countries, and that's not going to happen anyway according to you, so … 🤷♀️ I guess we'll just hope that Israel someday becomes tired of committing genocide and commits fully to the idea of not committing genocide. Let's give Israel some more time, I guess, while we continue to hope your plan "would" be a success if everyone "would" fully commit to your plan. I don't welcome whatever the USA does regarding Gaza. And stop calling whatever the USA does a "deal". That's Trump-pleasing language. And how about you finally leave X, the child-pornography generating propaganda medium by the pedophilic nazi Musk, while the EU continues to force #ChatControl on us, ostensibly to "protect the children"? https://media.hachyderm.io/media_attachments/files/117/359/657/316/915/262/original/40aaae91e7e3838d.jpg npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley Please check out #GazaVerified and donate to help victims of genocide: https://gaza-verified.org/donate/ You can't expect genocide victims to not intrude into your discussions to ask for help and simultaneously *not* donate to them. Not if you don't want to be complicit in genocide by actively ignoring it. @nprofile…s4ce and @nprofile…vkpw built https://gaza-verified.org/donate/ so that you won't get spammed every day by dozens of messages from Palestinians who feel they have no other choice. This can work only if we donate enough though, so that they don't feel compelled to knock on every door. Palestinians don't send you unsolicited messages because they want to annoy you or because they have nothing better to do. They feel *ashamed* for having to ask for help and *they too* would prefer not having to knock on every door they can find. They do this only because they aren't supported enough, and of course because our governments are complicit in genocide to begin with. Don't forget Palestine. npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley It can't be said often enough: Fuck Palantir. #fascism #palantir npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley A vim expert on the attitude of the neovim maintainers (who have been found to be fascists, at least three of them, one of them a Palantir employee): #nevent1q…8jv4 npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley As part of my anti-fascism, I changed my domain from davidculley.com to davidculley.eu a while ago. I thought it merely a symbolic gesture, but maybe it's not so symbolic after all. The top-level domain .com is controlled by Verisign, a greedy US company. Depending on US companies is problematic as can be seen by what happened to the Italian anti-fascism collective. Verisign also lobbied hard so that they're allowed to increase their prices by 7% every year in 4 out of 6 years. A few years ago it had cost only $9 to renew your .com domain. Soon it'll already be at $15 a year. Maybe 7% doesn't sound much per individual domain, but consider there are millions if not billions of domains that need to be renewed every year. This is a cashcow for Verisign. They make their profits through quantity. They provide nothing at all in return for their price increases. Verisign is a leech. Meanwhile a .eu domain costs $5 a year. There's no monopoly on the .eu top-level domain. The EU Commission chooses from a pool of applicants every few years and the current mandate is given to a Belgian company. I'm not a commercial entity. I don't sell you anything. I'm a person within the EU with a personal homepage. I'm aware the EU has its problems too (Europ€an value$), especially at its borders, but for now the .eu TLD represents me better than the .com TLD. Cutting your dependencies on US companies is not merely symbolic as can be seen by what happened this week to anti-fascists worldwide. #fascism #capitalism #WebDev #nevent1q…2zey npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley From 2020–2022 people were complaining how taxing it is to stay at home during the pandemic. For me, an introvert enjoying indoorsy things and having alone-time, it was the easiest thing. I'll likewise manage to never use LLMs. #nevent1q…wuj6 npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley No German person I've talked to offline—in Germany, I'm German—thinks Elon Musk is a Nazi. Or at least they refuse to say it openly. I don't know if this makes me sad or angry. Even after I showed them pictures of Musk doing the (in Germany forbidden) Sieg Heil ("Hail victory") Nazi salute … did they still doubt me. When I said at work that Musk is a Nazi (in the context of Schrems II and unlawfully sending data from the EU to the USA), not thinking much about it because it's the plain truth, my boss threatened to fire me if I utter the word "Nazi" one more time at the workplace, for being "political" at work. I don't know how we will overcome capitalism if even Germans cannot recognize a Sieg Heil. Or are too chicken-shit to stand by their principles. #nevent1q…3hnc npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley Eliezer Yudkowsky is the guy who coined the term Effective Altruism, the toxic ideology that billionaires and capitalism-brained aspiring millionaires use to excuse their greed. They tell themselves, for example, that it's good to work at awful companies such as Facebook/Meta to make ungodly amounts of money because, "look at all the good things I could do with all that money," while ignoring all the awful consequences of them working for these companies. Eliezer Yudkowsky is in large parts responsible for introducing and turning billionaires to this toxic ideology. He's also responsbile for another toxic ideology called Rationalism where they suppress all their feelings, and its communities such as LessWrong or Slate Star Codex. He apparently also wrote a fan-fiction book for Harry Potter, called "Harry Potter and the Method of Rationality". Its premise is that Harry Potter was raised by scientists and University of Oxford professors (🙄), and at the age of 10 having already received a rigorous scientific education, before being sent to Hogwarts, where he then examines the magic through the lens of science. "Productivity YouTuber" Ali Abdaal who has millions of uneducated gullible followers, is now promoting that book with a video literally titled, "I am begging you to read [this book]." Promoting Harry Potter in 2026 is definitely a choice. J. K. Rowling is doing her best to ensure the death of all transgender people. What Rowling is doing literally falls under the definition of genocide. Promoting the works of Effective Altruists in 2026 is definitely a choice. Ali Abdaal represents everything that is wrong with Gen Z aspiring to become millionaires by way of becoming YouTubers. Please stop watching him. I discovered his channel in 2018 or so, when he showed his viewers the flashcard app Anki. And I learned how to study effectively thanks to him, something school or my parents never taught me. But I quickly got turned off by his channel around 2019 or so when he started pivoting to iPad reviews like every other tech channel. And especially when his popularity exploded in 2020 with everyone stuck at home due to the pandemic. Please stop watching him if you do. #EffectiveAltruism #TESCREAL #HarryPotter npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley #TIL (Today I Learned) that when you use LVM (Logical Volume Manager) on Linux (to abstract your storage), you should prefer the volume path /dev/my_volume_group/my_logical_volume provided by LVM over the more low-level volume path /dev/mapper/my_volume_group-my_logical_volume that is provided by the underlying device mapper framework. You should never interact with the underlying device mapper framework directly, and rather interact indirectly with it through the LVM and/or cryptsetup abstractions because the filepaths provided by the device mapper framework are 'intended for "internal use" and subject to possible "change between releases and distributions",' as the Arch Wiki puts it. Codeberg's decision to not tolerate LLM slop wasn't a top-down decision made by some CEO/dictator. Codeberg is a collective and anyone can become a member with voting rights. The members voted democratically, and about 70% of the members were in favor of not tolerating LLM slop. This decision is the will of the majority. It's the democratic will of the collective. For talking so much about how "AI" democratizes this or that (software engineering, music making, …), the AI bros really don't understand democracy. Nobody is forcing AI bros to use Codeberg if they don't like that decision. Codeberg isn't a monopoly. Unlike with the monopolies these "Zero to One" Thiel fans love so much, there are plenty of alternatives where they can take their LLM slop (GitHub, GitLab, CodeFloe, …) if they dislike Codeberg. The AI bros can even self-host a forge of their own with Forgejo. Which they can do free of charge thanks to Codeberg. I won't say more to avoid giving the AI bros ideas. Just read my post again to know what I hold back. These CEO-loving monopoly-loving AI bros cannot handle it when other people have different opinions than them, that don't even affect them. "There can be no other god but my god." These AI bros live lives that are so empty in their chase for ever more money, in their chase for status, for titles—their lives lack any sort of meaning or purpose or community, or true happiness and self-acceptance—that they try to fill the void in their lacking lives with a religious fervor not much different from Christian missionaries or conquistadores. Finally: If you like the idea of collectives and community, you'll like #anarchism. Anarchism is democracy without a state, according to David Graeber. There are a lot of such YouTubers for whom it's no problem whatsoever to associate with full-blown Nazis. German public broadcasting did a podcast series called "Inside Palantir" where they interviewed an ex-employee of Palantir and whistleblower. The whistleblower said that when you apply at #Palantir, you are asked: "How comfortable are you to work on software that is used for killing people?" I simply refuse to believe that anyone (including an utterly naive twenty-something who freshly graduated from college and never reads any newspaper) could accidentally slide into a job at Palantir without knowing what Palantir is doing and what they're applying for. I refuse to believe, "I didn't know what I was signing up for when I applied at Palantir—I was so inexperienced and naive—but now that I'm at Palantir and know better, I cannot resign because my health insurance is tied to this job." When you apply at Palantir, you know full well what you're signing up for. The CEO is not exactly shy about it, newspapers report about it, and Palantir itself fucking tells you—before you even get your contract, during your application—that they will use *your work* to kill people. You cannot land the job without knowing you'll be an accessory to murder. Even the most naive gullible person should run away at that point. Fuck Palantir. Fuck everyone who works for them. Fuck everyone who works for them and refuses to resign. Resigning from Palantir won't clear the blood from your hands when you knowingly accepted their offer in the first place. Resigning won't open the gates to Heaven for you. But it is a great and necessary first step. Also, fuck everyone who collaborates with Palantir employees. Fuck every open-source project whose maintainers include Palantir employees. (Looking at a certain text editor whose maintainers also like to hang around with fascist DHH and speak on his conference OMACON.) Fuck everyone who is friends with a Palantir employee and doesn't talk some sense into their friend or ends the friendship. The podcast series will be released on July 31. Such a law would of course very likely violate the German constitution, like virtually everything the current German government does these days. And Germany already has a law that protects anyone from incitement and hate against the group they belong to, including jews. A law that specifically protects Israel no matter what Israel does serves of course only to suppress valid criticism of genocide and Israel's hard-right course who currently want to attack Iran *again*. In a country that respects its own constitution, this planned law would never even have been proposed. Hat tip to @nprofile…czzv. As I write this, Germany's foreign minister, Johann Wadephul, is on visit in Israel, Germany's "good and close friend", to "keep communications channels open" as public hostility towards Israel increases. And Germany's minister of the interior, Alexander Dobrindt, and the federal presidents of Germany's police have had multiple visits in Israel, Germany's "natural partner", to start training each other's police and to learn from Israel how it controls a population in an apartheid state using technology and AI (the real, working all-too-well AI, like computer vision, not the LLMs that are sold to us as "AI"). https://www.nd-aktuell.de/artikel/1201039.bundesrat-existenzrecht-israels-bundesrat-will-leugnung-des-existenzrechts-israels-bestrafen.html #Israel #Germany #surveillance #authoritarianism npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley Some gamers apparently defend Microsoft's Xbox division after Microsoft fired thousands of Xbox employees. This European law is from 1995, from before most people alive even knew what the internet is and before US surveillance capitalism was so pervasive and from before every mediocre developer bundled the Facebook SDK into their app. Since the year 2000 this law has been a farce because the EU Commission just started saying, "Yup, the USA is just as good as the EU with their data privacy laws." Still does so today. If yesterday's ruling has consequences, we would return to the good times of 1995–2000, regarding this law, so to speak. "No way is the US as good as the EU regarding data privacy laws. Therefore, no data crossing the border allowed." npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley Yesterday the fascist Supreme Court of the US (SCOTUS) ruled that the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) isn't independent anymore. This is huge, on multiple levels. For US-Americans it's just bad, but for Europeans there could be something good in it that the US fascists probably didn't consider … provided that the EU Commission doesn't stab European citizens in the back. The FTC being independent is the entire basis for (and the only reason) why Europeans are allowed to send personal data from the EU to the USA. Without this basis, Europeans aren't allowed to send any personal data from the EU to the USA. To give the maybe most concrete example, Europeans will be forbidden to use Google Analytics once this comes into effect. In fact no US agency is independent anymore. Did Trump's fascist cronies in the SCOTUS basically self-destruct US tech dominance over Europe? In their race to a dictatorship, they declared every US law unconstitutional that allows any US agency any independence from Trump. But without independence from Trump, the EU treaty collapses that allows Europeans to send personal data to the USA. This means, Europeans aren't allowed to use Google Analytics anymore. No more Google Firebase, no more Braze, no more Sentry. NO MORE PALANTIR. > noyb has sent a formal letter to the European Commission today, asking the Commission to take the appropriate steps to repeal the EU-US data deal in an orderly way. > noyb will also file a lawsuit in the coming weeks, aiming to allow the [Court of Justice of the EU] to annul the current deal. However, such a lawsuit typically takes 2-3 years until a final decision is reached. If your employer uses Google Analytics, they better start migrating to a self-hosted solution like Matomo or Plausible. Or they will face hefty fines. If you pay Mullvad in cash or use a voucher code bought from Amazon (which is what I do/did), then Mullvad doesn't know who you are. Mullvad is unique in this aspect (as far as I know), which is one reason I chose them when I needed a VPN (and before I learned a few days ago that 70% of the donations to the Swedish Nazi party come from one of Mullvad's CEOs). npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley @nprofile…w0mx Your examples of hotel Wi-Fi and Starbucks Wi-Fi are valid use cases for a VPN. They are covered by my point "If you don't trust your ISP and would rather trust someone else." A VPN is not just for piracy. But a somewhat technical person can just connect to their Raspberry Pi at home (or a VPS rented for 5 EUR a month if your home internet is slow). You don't need to subscribe to a paid VPN service for this if you know how to set up PiVPN. Even in a coffee shop (or university/library) Wi-Fi I consider a VPN necessary. Look up "transparent proxy". They can decrypt your HTTPS connections. To them it's HTTP traffic. They're essentially performing a man-in-the-middle attack against you. When I was a student, classmates regularly were warned by the university for torrenting in the library rather than at home due to its better internet speeds. And although HTTPS hides which specific porn movie you watched, the Wi-Fi admin still sees that you visited the domain pornhub.com. Use a VPN to hide that information from Starbucks. But again, you can connect to a Raspberry Pi at home or a VPS under your control, you don't need to pay for a VPN subscription. Mullvad isn't a poor example because I wasn't talking about Mullvad tracking you. I was talking about Google being able to track you (despite using a VPN) if you watch YouTube videos while being logged into your YouTube account. That applies to all VPN providers including Mullvad. npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley People fundamentally misunderstand VPNs. A VPN doesn't make you anonymous in any way whatsoever. Here's why: All a VPN service does is hide your traffic from your Internet Service Provider (ISP). For example, from Vodafone. Using a VPN makes your internet traffic go through the VPN provider instead. For example: #Mullvad. If you browse the internet while being logged into any account (Amazon, Google, Netflix, etc.) or you fetch your emails, the web of course still knows who you are. From your account that tells them your name. You don't become anonymous by using a VPN. You would use a VPN only if you don't trust your ISP and would rather trust someone else. For example: If your ISP is a surveillance capitalist (like Google Fiber) or part of a repressive regime, or if you intend to do something illegal. Like pirating movies. Again: A VPN doesn't make you anonymous. If you intend to do something illegal, you're just hoping that the VPN provider won't rat you out to authorities when your ISP would. The VPN provider very much knows that you pirated that movie. Unlike your ISP, they just won't give out that information to the cops though. That's their entire selling point … they help you evade prosecution. But the VPN provider still very much knows who you are and what you did. And you can trust them only so long as they keep their promise to not rat you out. Many people fundamentally misunderstand VPNs. In large part due to the outrageously wrong/misleading marketing by VPN providers. There is no anonymity while browsing the internet unless you use Tor. Especially if you don't also drastically change your habits. Browsing the web while being logged into any of your usual accounts still allows them to track you across multiple sites due to using the same IP address and providing them an identity they can link your traffic to. The IP address is just a different one now. Just paying a company 5 EUR a month while not understanding or changing any of what I described, does absolutely nothing to protect you on the internet. Unless you want to do piracy and fear your ISP would rat you out but hope the VPN provider won't. If it becomes too risky for the VPN provider to cover for you, they will start to rat you out as well. npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley @nprofile…s4ce I told the CEO of my employer in an all-hands meeting in front of all employees that the company he leads does business with multiple companies that are complicit in a genocide, and asked him whether he is fine with that. Get GrapheneOS. I have been an iPhone user for about 13 years. In 2016, I became annoyed at my iPhone 5 which came with only 16 GB of storage. For the first time I seriously became interested in an Android phone because I liked the idea of expanding your phone with an SD card instead of paying the Apple tax. In 2016, the 16 GB of my 4-year-old phone just wasn't enough anymore. I bought a Motorola phone which was as close to stock Android as you could get at the time (as far as I know). I hated everything about Android and after 6 months of Android—as soon as the iPhone SE was released—I went straight back to iOS. So you cannot say I didn't give Android a fair chance. And this was stock Android without all the Samsung crapware. Fast forward to 2023: I ditched my iPhone and got myself a Pixel with GrapheneOS. And I love it! It's a completely different experience than in 2016. All of this is to say, as someone who hated Android with a passion, that I now find that "Android" has now surpassed iOS in terms of user experience. iOS used to be simple. Then Apple added setting after setting after setting. Soon enough, I couldn't find anything anymore. Every setting was buried in unexpected places. Discoverability became really bad on iOS. With 2026's Android, everything is easy to find. The discoverability is so much better than on iOS. And with GrapheneOS, I know that my phone is as secure as it can be. It has many great privacy-related features. I can now walk around the city and know that nearby shopping locations cannot "personalize my shopping experience". It feels very good to know that my data is much better protected than on an iPhone. And in 2023, I didn't even foresee yet that Tim Cook is courting fascists, rapists, and pedophiles. In 2026 you should definitely consider getting rid of your Apple products. Between iPhone, iPad, and Mac, the iPhone is surprisingly the easiest Apple product to part ways with. GrapheneOS is that good. And I say that as a 13 year-long user of iOS who disliked Android with a passion. https://manganiello.eu/objects/32f58009-1689-4c50-929d-de5d1a718e85 npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley Gewerkschaft der Polizei nutzt ChatGPT. https://hachyderm.io/@davidculley/115968309704610020 @nprofile…lpd8 #nevent1q…9hsy npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley @nprofile…6zp3 Hello Mahmoud, I'm so sorry for all the suffering you have to endure. 💔 You will collect more money faster if you speak with the #GazaVerified team because then you will be included in the overview of families who need help: https://gaza.onl/campaigns/accounts You can schedule a video call with them as described here: https://gaza-verified.org/join Much love and solidarity for you. ❤️🫂🇵🇸 npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley German police¹ is using ChatGPT to fake images of injured police officers. These days, everyone who talks about "freedom of speech" is a motherfucking asshole: a fascist, plain and simple, and/or just somebody too lazy a thinker to hear the dog whistle. #fascism #USA #Germany https://mastodon.social/@peterjelinek/115773502170416186 npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley @nprofile…d3n5 Cool, then I was misinformed. In that case I'll consider Bunny again. 🙂 Thanks for the info! 🤝 npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley @nprofile…d3n5 How much would Bunny cost for a tiny website with basically no traffic? I think they have a 5 EUR minimum per month, no? npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley With virtually the entire tech world going fascist, you should at least know about alternatives to YouTube. Maybe one day, all the creators and influencer's you follow will wean themselves off of Google's teats. Let's start switching to #PeerTube sooner than that. #GiveUpYouTube https://framapiaf.org/@peertube/115688834621367195 npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley @nprofile…hpz8 Podcasters and influencers (non-legacy media) often aren't better, many of whom are full-on MAGA. Thus "corporate media is beyond hope" is more fitting than "legacy media". npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley A warm welcome, @nprofile…9z9w @nprofile…7cv9 ❤️🇵🇸 And thank you as always, @nprofile…lu0c @nprofile…k7yn @nprofile…uhc0 🫂 npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley @nprofile…55n5 I wish I could reduce your fear. 😔 And stop the genocide. We Germans must stop our government from giving weapons to Israel. As must other complicit countries. I don't know how you can avoid being hit by the bombings. 😞 It pains me reading your messages powerlessly. We are with you in our thoughts, every day. If you want to donate, please support @nprofile…k5qq. After two years of genocide, after often having to go to sleep with a belly hurting from hunger. Imagine it, even if it's only a tiny, tiny piece because you have to share 1 kg between 18 people. Although there is supposed to be a ceasefire, food is still very expensive and Palestinians can't afford it without income. Imagine the sheer joy of getting a glimpse of what you get to have every single day: tasting bits of meat. Please consider donating to @nprofile…k5qq to allow him to have something else for dinner than blank rice or blank lentils (or nothing at all). Italy's biggest union is calling for a national strike for tomorrow, out of solidarity. And Germany? The obedient subservient timid fearful Germans would never strike. Nor is it conscient. There is no "it" behind LLMs. Only rich people who want you to unlearn all your skills, by relying more and more on their LLMs. And once you've unlearned all your skills and once you're so utterly dependent on LLMs because you're so helpless without them and once you no longer know how to do *anything* without consulting a LLM, these rich people will crank up the subscription prices and become even richer. Because in rent-seeking capitalism, of course everything is a subscription. Companies like OpenAI keep telling you that AI is real and will soon™️ become sentient and destroy the world. And for that reason, OpenAI and its likes are actually public benefit companies, at least according to their own arguments, because they—the good people, the Sam Altmans of the world—work on making AI safe, and are thus the saviors of the world!!! Messiah-complex much? And because these companies now positioned themselves as public benefit companies, they get massive funding. It's all just a giant grift, designed to make rich bastards even richer. And people who spend way too much time on LinkedIn fall for it, in masses. It's time to wake up! You've been utterly fooled if you didn't know any of this. But it's not too late. Do the programming yourself again instead of vibe-coding some shit you don't understand. Unless you *want* to pay ever-increasing subscription fees to the Sam Altmans of the world, like a serf, milking you until the day you die. #AI #LLM #madness #rant npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley Using Grok for "general learning" … you might as well ask for a SS commander or Hitler himself as your history teacher. Grok is completely biased. If you're still watching or listening to the Lex Fridman podcast, you're supporting/enabling someone who supports ultra right-wing ideology and fascism. Yes, fascism. Lex had Balaji Srinivasan on his show, to name just one asshole Lex platformed. What need I say more? Personally, I had multiple co-workers tell me, "I watched RFK Jr. on the Lex Fridman podcast. He made total sense to me, he's not the conspiracy theorist everyone says he is." It's like Gandalf warns in the LotR: Don't let Saruman speak. His words will put a spell on you. And before you know it, you're hailing and praising fascists. #LexFridman https://media.hachyderm.io/media_attachments/files/114/476/743/160/442/819/original/f70c23be1eeea9af.png npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley @nprofile…uzew Hi Paris, would you consider offering Liberapay in addition to Patreon, to accept money? That way you could keep more money for yourself. Liberapay takes away only the processing costs for Stripe/Paypal, but doesn't take an additional 10% or whatever Patreon takes nowadays. npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley @nprofile…79ya I also have that issue on iOS. When I don't check a list every day and go without opening that list for a couple of days, Ivory often (but not always) brings me to the current moment, which means I "lose" the messages of the last couple of days for that list. Unless, of course, I scroll back, but that's inconvenient if Ivory forgot the last post I viewed. npub1kccdfkxxdmh7q50cd75rkm3vj74auwan784wjjnv89hypgkwpcaqs2jdrk David Culley ”You can be intelligent and a Nazi. Lately, I’m seeing lots of follow-worthy people posting that it’s much nicer over at #BlueSky than it’s here at #Mastodon, persuading us to move to BlueSky too. Sure, I believe that. But BlueSky is just another (VC-funded) platform owned by capitalists. If people stayed at Mastodon, we could avoid the forming of the network effect that made it so hard to escape Twitter/X. A strange notion to escape X just to hop into BlueSky‘s lap instead.
