Colorado mountain person. I make things and go to conventions. Generally I'll post content related to my hobbies, which include #car restoration, #outdoor experiences, #furry events, #games (tabletop and PC games, sometimes older consoles), #Linux, #computers, and fixing stuff in general.

beautifully written, thank you!
I'm a silly furry creature on the Internet. I'm pan. I have a trans partner. The bulk of my friends and family are queer and/or neurodivergent.
I am fucking TERRIFIED of the idea that I might have to choose between my actual life and a "work safe" persona to do basic things like "maintain a bank account" and "own property" and "have access to medical care".
And that's exactly the direction a closed, age-verified, ID-required internet is taking us. Make no mistake about it, it's not about protecting children or eliminating fraud (the first clue should be that the proponents of these bills are mostly child rapists and/or virulent fraudsters).
It's about documenting, monitoring, and eventually unpeopling "undesirables".
And the definition of "undesirables" can change with one stroke of a pen.

Boosting this one more time, it's still available if anyone's interested.
I'll go down to $525 plus actual shipping cost (probably around $60-80 in the US). Please help me reclaim some space in my office!

THE DESKTOP: Mostly ASUS ROG hardware, this was my old gaming rig. Power supply failed last year, so I built a new machine. Was going to part this one out, but instead decided to build it back up and sell as a complete working PC. Comes with a fresh install of Win10 LTSC with all drivers and debloat. Specs:
ASUS ROG Rampage V Edition 10 motherboard
Intel i7 5930K - 3.5GHz, 6 core 12 thread
G.Skill 32GB DD4-2800 RAM (4x 8GB sticks)
ASUS ROG STRIX NVIDIA RTX 2080 Super, 8GB VRAM
1TB NVMe KingSpec drive (new)
BeQuiet Dark Rock Slim CPU cooler (new)
Corsair RM850e - 850W PSU (new)
Nollie 8 ARGB controller (new, for controlling case fans, GPU, and front panel LEDs)
AZZA CELESTA 340F case (new)
Has over $300 in new parts. I'm looking for $600 for this one, plus actual shipping costs (local pickup would be preferred if you're in Colorado; shipping will probably be around $60-80). Computer and WiFi antenna only; no keyboard/mouse/display/etc.

THE LAPTOP: System76 Gazelle 14. The original manual archived here: https://web.archive.org/web/20241223212207/https://support.system76.com/service-manuals/pdfs/Gazelle/gaze14-service-manual.pdf
Used this laptop as my primary/secondary machine, and it's been excellent. One of the last "bulky" laptops where you can actually get inside with normal hand tools and service things. There's a 1TB NVMe drive included, a second NVMe slot, and a 2.5" bay as well. Comes with 16GB of RAM, an Intel i7-9750H (6C12T 2.6GHz), GTX 1650, 1920x1080 display. I recently replaced the thermal paste so that should be good for another 5+ years. Cosmetically it's in great condition. Battery is in good shape, about 88% capacity, although you should have reasonable expectations about battery life (I get about 45-70 minutes on battery, depending on load). Full range of ports, including HDMI, DP, and an actual Ethernet port! Charger included.
Looking for $350, shipped in the continental USA. Screenshot shows CachyOS installed, but comes with NO OS (works fine with CachyOS, Mint, etc).

I currently run/moderate a discord server with about 120 members. I'm looking to move away from that platform to something I can host myself (or worst case, through a service). We use voice chat, text chat/channels, user roles, and media uploads. Desktop streaming and video chat is a plus, but not required. Ideally users could choose between browser-based, desktop, and mobile clients. I'd like to prioritize ease of adoption too, since most of these folks are long term discord users.
I'm looking at Matrix right now (and considering hosting with etke.cc) but I would appreciate any suggestions!

Yet another round of stuff for sale! This time it's all SBCs. Again, a couple rules: I'm going in order of responses on toots (if you just reply with "I want it", that counts). I'll shoot you a DM with my email, and then you have 24 hours to contact me via email and we'll exchange payment/shipping details. I can take Zelle or Venmo. If I don't hear from the first responder within 24 hours, I'll reach out to the second, etc. You can ask for more than one item! Prices include shipping via USPS in the continental USA (may be able to combine shipping for a small discount). Please don't DM me directly; replying to the post lets other folks know what's spoken for/still available.
Bonus points if you use these for something cool. Tag me in your project thread if you do!
Again I apologize for no alt text, but the pics are just proof the item exists as described. Boosts are much appreciated!

Heavily Modified Sega Game Gear
This was a super fun project which isn't quite completed, but close!
Basically, this is the original Game Gear shell and main board with a new display (BennVenn IPS LCD), Clean Juice power board (featuring USB-C charging and internal rechargeable batteries), and sound board (with crisper audio and all-new components). The main board has been recapped. Also included are seven games: Surf Ninjas, Ecco the Dolphin, Mortal Kombat, The Lion King, Primal Rage, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Wonder Boy.
Now, the bad: I would not consider this complete. The shell in particular still needs some cleaning, and the lens is pretty badly scratched. Some games you may need to power cycle to start (once started, the games run fine). The Lion King cartridge is probably bad, I can't get that one to work. I would not suggest picking this up unless you're prepared to tinker.
Asking $160 shipped.

Memorex Portavision 5" Color CRT Model 17
Tube works fine, the color bars were generated with an HDMI-RF adapter but there's also an RCA input for your older systems. The case is in good shape overall, but feels a bit loose. I'm not sure if this is normal, as I have not torn this TV down for cleaning/repair. The antenna is broken off and missing, but hey - it couldn't pick anything up anyway even if it was present. I do not know if the 8mm player works, as I have no cassettes to test it with. The door may stick when trying to eject, it sometimes needs to be wiggled side-to-side.
Asking $50 shipped.

Playing Baldur's Gate 2 on my Dell 5300 ($30 eBay find). I have to say, 8ish hours of battery life is a nice change compared to modern gaming!
Of course, running antiX as my OS and IceWM as my window manager helps a lot with that. This thing barely uses any CPU/RAM - even with the game going I'm staying under 800MB of RAM and 4% CPU utilization.

TWO moose today! That's double lucky!
I caught a glimpse of these two through my office window. They were wandering around the house, and I was quick enough to lean out the back door and snap a couple pictures. They already cleaned up most of the vegetation on the western slope, so they were heading to the still-fairly-lush vegetation on the south end of the property. That area is fertilized and watered by the septic runoff, so... circle of life, I guess?
Also standard warning: don't approach moose (especially if a calf is involved). The only reason I felt comfortable grabbing this shot is that 2/3 of my body was still inside the house!

repaired small electronics professionally for ~five years.
Warm-to-hot is normal while charging or in use. Too hot to touch is not. If there's no charging or draw, the battery should cool off quickly (15 mins or so).
A metal can/jar/box ouside is a good move. Try to set your container on something non-flammable, or losely cover the container with something non-flammable.
Can't help too much on the recycling side, but most places that take things like paint and household chemicals can also handle lithium batteries. They're worth a bit, so recycling is usually free! Just keep them contained while they're in your car, and if you have a suitable fire extinguisher bring that along.
Hope this helps!

those came out really well! What printer and material did you use, if you don't mind my asking?
I may try to print a few myself, and scale the model down to make smaller clips for finer cables.

Welp. It is Monday, after all.

This fella has been hanging around the house lately, and he seems amenable to posing for the camera. It's wild how stealthy these giants are. I went out to grab something from the car and passed within 15' of him while he was laying on the septic field.
Of course I took these with a telephoto lens - DON'T approach wild moose! This guy is pretty relaxed but they can be violent and unpredictable.

My #GameGear project is nearing completion! Got everything put back together on my lunch break yesterday, and the system mostly works. Some games fire up right away, while others need to be reseated multiple times before they start working correctly (and even then, sometimes it takes a couple on/off cycles to get them working). I'm worried there might be something wrong with the cartridge reader, so figuring out how to test that is my next priority.
Once I figure out that last issue (is it the games? the console? both?) I'll look into cleaning up the exterior of the console a bit more. I'm really happy with the LCD, but there's not much point if the screen cover is all scuffed up! I do have some polishing gel which I've used to get out similar scratches before, but it may be better to just swap out the cover if there are good quality aftermarket replacement available.

Finished my #GameGear LCD upgrade today!
This involved removing the original LCD, backlight, and reflector. I then had to solder in the included ribbon cable. Lots of fiddly little connections, but it was pretty easy after tinning the ribbon cable and contact points on the LCD. The LCD kit is from BennVenn, and it's very well designed. It's also apparently the only IPS kit on the market.
Sadly, I lost one of the button membranes, but the console works at least! I still have some cleaning and modification of the case to do first, so I'll work on that while I wait for a set of replacement membranes.
Basically all of my parts are here, and I have a couple more games on the way!

Caught you, you little menace!
I think this is a vole, but I'd love for an expert to confirm or correct me.

I'll see what I can pick up on eBay and go from there!
While we're chatting - I've been reading up on other modifications and it looks like there are a number of alternative LCDs out there. I bought an original Sega GG, which apparently has the worst screen. Any suggestions for upgrades when I get to that point?
I'm looking at the BennVenn GGHD kit, but that's only for VA0/VA1 boards (unsure what I have, seems one needs to check the main board to find out for sure).

I had a classic Gameboy and later a DS, but I had some friends with GGs and always wanted one. Figured they'd be insanely expensive (and the fully refurbished units are) but there are some inexpensive repairable units out there too!

read up on the hardware, looks very cool, long story short I have a Game Gear on the way now. eBay, needs a recap and some cleanup first but once that's done I'm going to try to find a copy of Ultima IV!
