BTW, for a long time I thought that separation of state-and-church was about ending the practice of those in power to tell you what to believe. And taxes of course. But even more, it's about ending the practice of using your manipulated beliefs to coerce you to act in their favor.
It's a powerful analogy for the state-and-money separation.

About 1.5 yrs ago I started a little Nostr-key-store #Keystr project, which I quickly abandoned due to lack of time. In the meantime other great solutions emerged for this problem, like nsecBunker or Amber, so there's no point in reviving this project.
Despite this, yesterday I got a 2100 sats zap out of the blue with the message:

I'm a big admirer of @nprofile…zj6n , and I mostly agree with his take here.
I agree that the electronic-cash narrative faded due to the prevalence of the digital-gold narrative. But I think the reason is that people have *more* need for a good store of value than need for trustless, private payments. Where there is no motivation, people will not used it.
We have to keep on working on freedom tech and good payment options, because the way the world moves currently, sadly more and more people will be motivated or outright push towards bitcoin as payment system.

Having a key mgr app on my phone, and using itt seemlessly from nostr apps on the same device, as well from my laptop pretty much achieves the goal (Amber in my case). It's not a keyring, but a single private key, but for me that's a detail, it works.
Key hierarchy delegation (Nip-26) became a failure,dure to thecomplexityy and the user foresight needed.

If you want to share a nostr note so that even non-Nostr users can easily see it, app-specific http links are needed (e.g. a primal link). But then for Nostr ppl it's a hassle to transfer them to *their* preferred Nostr app.
At some point, on web, I often saw a dialog asking me which Nostr app to open, that's great (is that [nip89](https://nostr-nips.com/nip-89)?)
For that to work with regular app links, the only way I can imagine is that the Nostr app -- in this case Primal -- has to display a chooser to open in some other app. But apps don't really have an incentive to do that.
Sometimes I post both the `nostr:` note ID and the link, but that's a hassle too.

Accepting that there is a store-of-value-premium on real-estate, I'm wondering what about the cost side, the cost of building new houses, the cost of renovating, construction material and labor. Isn't that limiting the store-of-value premium? (if there is high demand for buying existing real estate as investment, and prices go up, but newly-builds prices are lower, it's more efficient to build).
Or, it's the other way around, and the store-of-value-premium also pulls up the construction prices, and inflates construction material and labor prices, infiltrating the whole supply chain? I think this is the case.

In case you want to set up your own BitcoinCore + Electrs stack for Signet:
it needs about 8GB ram & 30GB disk, and does the initial download and indexing in less than half an hour. After that it lives happily in 4GB RAM as well (possibly less).

Throughout 2024 Mutinynet seemed to be the most convenient lightning testing network. Mutiny wallet is discontinued, but AFAIK Mutinitynet still lives on. Good faucet, explorer, even LSP integration.

This is true in a wider sense as well. We keep watching videos of random people who are exceptional in something -- preparing a dish, playing an instrument, doing a backflip, whatever. But these are the best of the whole internet, unfair to compare yourself to them. In early times you saw the best of your community or neighborhood. The larger the scope, the stronger the bias. People don't realize this.

Nowadays virtually all merchant adoption uses Lightning. And lightning is 100% up to that. Anybody who says otherwise lives in the past. OK, I concede 99+% :)
But the big problem is with incentives. The vast majority of merchants don't have the incentive to accept btc. And nobody can force them.

Agree. I think the increasing number of people getting income in btc grows the number of all-in people. All-ins seek direct payment wherever possible, because they have only btc, so it's the least friction. Having btc income is a big driver.

One difference: Liquid hides the amounts, which is great, but as it's a blockchain, the relationship between subsequent transactions is clear to be seen (transaction graph). That's not the case in cashu (ecash).

After playing around with #kyoto-cbf, I dug up some questions to a few old questions
If I want to check the balances of some new addresses(*), do we need to re-fetch block filters again?
- Yes, simply because the filters are not stored.
Is a retrieved filter specific to the addresses I'm interested in?
- Of course not. That would defy the privacy benefits, as you would have to provide your addresses to an external party. The only input to a filter retrieve is only the block hash.
Why are filters not stored?
- Simply to save space, in most cases they are not needed again.
How big is a block filter?
- According to a doc I found, typically between 2-6 kB.
Note: if during scan we find new used addresses, and we generate extra addresses due to the gap limit, the extra addresses can be added without needing to rescan. Provided we assume the new addresses would be used in subsequent blocks only.
