We all know the value of Zaps on Nostr, but have you heard of the "Send a gift" feature on Facebook? I read through Meta’s official T&Cs for it, and the fine print is a complete joke.
Meta explicitly states that these gifts have "no monetary value" and that they retain "sole discretion" over whether a creator ever gets a dime—all while deducting credit card fees and corporate "bad debt" from the creator's cut. Contrast that with a Zap: actual sovereign money settling peer-to-peer instantly, with zero platform fees or corporate permission required. My two cents on Saylor’s sale of Bitcoin:
His 32 BTC liquidation to pay out equity dividends completely shatters his dogmatic "never sell" slogan. But honestly, the hypocrisy runs way deeper than just the sale.
How can you quote the white paper while keeping over 843,000 BTC locked up in corporate institutional custody accounts? Satoshi explicitly wrote the white paper to eliminate the need for "trusted third parties." Saylor didn't escape the legacy banking system; he just built a leveraged corporate proxy wrapper right back into it.
By forcing a sale to cover local financial liabilities, the market just proved two immutable truths:
1) Intermediary custody always introduces counterparty risk.
2) Bitcoin is not dead capital to be hoarded by corporate custodians—it is electronic cash designed for settlement, exactly as Satoshi intended.
The white paper remains undefeated.

Every single Spark-enabled wallet automatically generates a native spark1... network address behind the scenes.
The catch? Popular Spark enabled wallets like @nprofile…kclk and @nprofile…2xse choose to hide this native Spark address from the user UI, exposing only a standard Lightning address (LNURL) instead.
Here is why that matters economically:
❌ If you send or receiving a transaction using the LN address, the wallet routes it over regular Lightning rails, forcing you to pay standard network routing fees.
✅ If a wallet actually allows you to see and use the native Spark address, transfers between those addresses are completely free!

There is a lot of criticism surrounding @nprofile…kclk on the trending feeds right now regarding the server-side blocking of @nprofile…2af4, and the concerns are real.
As someone trying to nudge friends, family, and my kids to leave Facebook, Instagram and TikTok for Nostr, I obviously don’t want them exposed to explicit or triggering content. Accounts like fuckstr push boundaries, posting highly provocative memes about religion and race that are clearly designed to mock and test the limits. Personally? I found his memes about Jesus talking to himself pretty funny. But he is at a minimum triggering, and it’s understandable why some people find it offensive.
But the answer to offensive content isn’t a return to centralized Web2 moderation or top-down client filters.
The core promise of Nostr is absolute free speech and user sovereignty. If a user doesn't like someone's provocative tone or edgy content, they can simply choose who to follow, use native mutes, or switch relays. We don't need a central party or proprietary caching servers dictating what we are allowed to see via server-side blocks. That is permission-based communication.
What we need from teams like Primal is world-class UI/UX and better localized, user-controlled filtering features so we can curate our own experience and protect our families ourselves. Give us the tools, but let the protocol breathe. ⚡️🆔

Lost my purple verification checkmark recently because @nprofile…m76u unfortunately phased out their NIP-05 mapping directory to focus purely on Cashu/Ecash. Zaps were still landing perfectly, but the missing badge was bugging me!
Dug into an old account and mapped my personal npub to an @nprofile…fhc5 address instead. Back to being verified, and zero downtime for my personal profile.
Ultimate long-term goal is hosting my own nostr.json file on my domain (simon-consulting.nl) to be 100% sovereign, but this quick fix does the trick for now! 🤙

Agree, but don't forget that there is also the competition from stablecoin rails set up by the likes of VISA/MasterCard, Stripe, Circle, EU bank consortiums, etc. Not as good as lightning network, but way better than SWIFT. So lightning is not just competing with SWIFT.

But no one pays their taxes for fun, it is a legal obligation. You can not run a legit business without that. Not paying taxes is a criminal offence. Anyway, coming back to the main discussion point. I still haven't heard any valid argument from you why stablecoins are not acceptable, but e-cash and even side chains like Spark are.

So you are saying that you are able to pay with bitcoin at your local supermarket, order food at any restaurant, pay for everything when you are on holiday, etc. Who are you trying to fool? You now that it is complete BS what you are saying. Not even in countries with a high level of bitcoin like El Salvador every merchant accepts it. I would love to live in a world where I could do everything with Bitcoin. Fact is that it is simply NOT possible currently. Especially if you run a business. Taxes cannot be paid in Bitcoin. The world is still largely dependent on fiat. We might not like it, but it is a fact.

Funny compilation 😂. Personally I completely agree that there is nothing better than Bitcoin. Both as a store of value and as a medium of exchange. In practice I however notice that bitcoin is only still accepted by a very small number of merchants currently. And if you can't pay with bitcoin it is now often converted to fiat to enable day to payments. It has proven really difficult to convince merchants like supermarkets, gasoline stations, etc. to start accepting bitcoin. They simply don't understand, and if they slightly do, their conclusion is that bitcoin as an asset is too volatile. They want price stability. That is where stablecoins come in. With protocols like taproot assets these can be minted on the best blockchain which is Bitcoin. No need for Ethereum, Solana or any other 'shitcoin' blockchain.

What is your opinion on Chaumian eCash (i.e. Cashu and Fedimint)? It is technically a separate token, albeit representing real Bitcoin. Is that still within the boundaries of acceptance?

I slightly disagree. Having stablecoins minted on Bitcoin via protocols like Taproot Assets or RGB, which are native to Bitcoin, will actually benefit the Bitcoin Network in both the short and long term. Most important reason is human psychology. The transition for any small business owner to start accepting stablecoin payments as an alternative to traditional card payments is way easier to achieve than having to start accepting bitcoin directly. The step from stablecoin payment acceptance to direct bitcoin payments acceptance is the logical next step. And even if they don't eventually start accepting direct bitcoin payments, they are using bitcoin as the settlement layer without even knowing it. It will therefore enable more and easier bitcoin acceptance by merchants, create more revenue for lightning channels and it's node runners, create more revenue for the miners, create more bitcoin awareness, and more adoption of bitcoin, etc. This will enable true Bitcoin businesses (including node runners) to grow, which in turns creates less dependency on fiat.

My view is pragmatic: most people won't jump from fiat to 100% BTC overnight. Stablecoins on Lightning are the perfect transitional tool. They allow people to exit the traditional banking system *now* while gradually building their Bitcoin position.

Woke up to some easy sats this morning! ☕️⚡️
Spent less than 30 minutes total across a few apps, walking to the gym and back, and stacked:
- Speed Wallet: 130 sats (quick game)
- Satsman: 21 sats
- ZBD: 5 sats (daily poll)
- sMiles: 5 sats (1 sat per 1,000 steps—taking out the trash & walking to the gym/back)
Total: 161 sats.
Now, here’s the reality check. As a consultant, my hourly fee is at a level where 30 minutes of work is worth exponentially more than these fractions of a cent. From a "time is money" perspective, this doesn't make any sense at all. 📈📉
On the other hand, the walk was for my health, and apps like Satsman are actually educational—so they serve a purpose beyond the payout. It’s about the habit and the "Nuts and Bolts" of testing the plumbing of the future.
But I have to ask: Is this actually worth the effort for a professional? Or is the friction of micro-earning still too high for most people?
