So Brazil is running son of the infamous imprisoned corrupt president who promises to pardon his dad. And he's winning. Wtf #brazil is there something in the water?

gas itself costs relatively nothing it's the extraction infrastructure that's expensive and why pay for fixing leaks if the dictator for life doesn't want to and everyone needs gas due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and can't afford to complain.
The map on The Guardian is a good illustration how big and varied this issue is. You kinda expect Turkemnistan to suck but China, US, Mexico etc. leaking so much shit without any sense responsibility?

a single leak == 7 MILLION suv cars. This seems like the single most effective green policy that could ever be implemented - patch every single one of these leaks.

only negative is that I bought size to big due to email encouraging to size up due production differences. So if you measured yours with their sizer I'd encourage you to stick to your size. As for me - let's see how these ring size adjusting tapes etc work 😅

sure but these are clearly differently constrained scenarios so what's the value in this analogy? It's like saying "fishing will not scale because we'll run out of fish" and "prose won't scale because we'll run out of fictional ideas" - both are kinda true but the comparison doesn't really add anything.

yes but people in P4 timeline were aware of the size of an atom and how small the transistor could get. It was not some new physics we discovered. So everybody knew that size will be limiting factor, probably much much before P4 was created.
We don't have such thing with software scaling. There's no physical limit we can deduce for certain.

I think people were aware that transistor size will be a limiting factor in this example, so the limit was well known. Also this is physical limitation not a software one, LLMs are mostly just information (compression/code).

I think you might be underestimating the value here. Just with "matching solved problems with existing solutions" in it's own right is the greatest invention of the century. Most problems have existing solutions - choosing the right one and applying it is like 99% of all work we do. This is actually a good thing as it leaves creative edge pushing solutions for us and have LLM tools do the "boring" matching - is it not?

Really enjoyed this podcast on social philosophy with Philip Pettit on Mindscape 👇
https://www.preposterousuniverse.com/podcast/2025/07/21/322-philip-pettit-on-language-agency-politics-and-freedom/
The first half covers role of communication in intelligence development which is very convincing. In particular, I really liked his point that sharing information has a lot of self benefits thus having purpose beyond social growth but personal intelligence too!
The 2nd half covers more of political philosophy and overall highly recommend this episode.

I keep going back to XML for my personal projects: XPath, css selectors, attributes, comments, schema and actual data types all with modern syntax highlight and formatting — all make XML very nice to work with!
Is it time we give XML another shot?

There isn't worse UX than trying to understand large config files that try to be Turing complete and implement all sort of complex structures and regex selectors.

I can't believe how captured the world is by copyright propaganda. You can post hate speech online but you can't post a Disney movie. Literally the only censorship the whole world agrees on is billionaire's IP safety. Maybe it's time to reflect on that 🙄

I'm making coding tutorials for youtube and kdenlive has everything you'd need.
The workflow combined with KDE's Spectacle is very pleasant: screencapture -> import clip -> place and right click transform to compose the view.
The stability improvements are very noticeable as well. I've had some crashes last year but not this time around!

to me it feels like "screaming into the public with your ears closed" is a very toxic way to do public discourse even if you disagree about the very valid danger of misinformation here.
What's wrong with just posting privately? You can't have your cake and eat it too.
For a healthy public space it needs the ability to self correct and we know for a fact that peer pressure is effective.
In a more colloquial sense: if you want to talk shit you should be ready to take some shit too lol
