Amid artificial intelligence boom, AI girlfriends - and boyfriends - are making their mark.

A few months ago, Derek Carrier started seeing someone and became infatuated. He experienced a “ton” of romantic feelings but he also knew it was an illusion. That’s because his girlfriend was generated by artificial intelligence.
The 39-year-old from Belville, Michigan, became more curious about digital companions last fall and tested Paradot, an AI companion app that had recently come onto the market and advertised its products as being able to make users feel “cared, understood and loved.” He began talking to the chatbot everyday, which he named Joi, after a holographic woman featured in the sci-fi film “Blade Runner 2049” that inspired him to give it a try.

US Treasury official urges Congress for more power against crypto crime.
A United States Treasury official has expressed concerns regarding crypto in illicit finance in a statement to the House Financial Services Committee, asking for more authority to go after bad actors. The committee hearing is set for Feb. 15.
The Treasury’s Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Brian Nelson, emphasized this request in his prepared statement for a congressional hearing on terrorism and cryptocurrency crimes.

Bitcoin options traders anticipating new all-time high.
Data from Bloomberg Intelligence highlights a marked rise in the activity for call options expiring on Mar. 29 at strike prices of $60,000, $65,000, and $75,000. This comes despite Bitcoin having achieved its all-time high of $69,000 more than two years ago, in November 2021.
A high activity level in the options market indicates significant speculative interest and strategic positioning among Bitcoin investors.
When traders heavily invest in call options at strike prices above the current market price, it suggests a bullish outlook, as they anticipate the asset’s price will rise to or beyond these levels. This heightened activity reflects the market’s sentiment and expectations for future price movements and increases volatility and liquidity.

Blockchain analysts detect $4.6m from Duelbits crypto heist.
The suspicious address received $4.6 million from Duelbits wallets on the Ethereum and BNB chains. Cyvers CEO Deddy Lavid shared early insights from the company’s investigation exclusively with crypto.news.
The incident’s root cause seems to be loss of wallet access control. It usually means that the private keys or access credentials to the wallet have been exposed or stolen.
The suspicious address converted various tokens into Ethereum. Hackers commonly use this tactic to consolidate assets into a more liquid and widely accepted cryptocurrency, making it easier to launder or hide the trail.
Additionally, assets on the BNB chain were bridged to Ethereum. This further indicates an attempt to move assets across platforms to obscure their origin.

Demand for BTC products 10 times greater than supply, says Michael Saylor.
MicroStrategy founder Michael Saylor said that demand for Bitcoin (BTC) investment products is ten times greater than the supply available in the market.
In an interview with CNBC, Saylor emphasized that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) approval of cryptocurrency ETFs led to a noticeable quote increase. He believes the first cryptocurrency received an impulse to move upward due to the high interest of investors in the new products.
https://youtu.be/YYzHK-Ft1-g
In addition, Saylor said that MicroStrategy will rebrand and transform into a company developing solutions based on Bitcoin technology. The move will reflect its strategy to accumulate digital reserves and promote the development of the first cryptocurrency network.

S. Korean regulator will expel ‘unfit’ crypto exchanges from the market starting this year.
South Korea’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has publicly announced the tightening of scrutiny over crypto exchanges in the country and expel platforms deemed “unsuitable” from the local market starting in 2024.
According to a Feb. 12 report in The Korea Times, the FIU also intends to expand the scope of screening procedures in the crypto market and prevent unfit exchanges from entering the national economy.
The regulator intends to introduce a preemptive trading suspension system for suspicious transactions on platforms already operating in South Korea, which will freeze transactions even during the pre-investigation phase. The Financial Action Task Force recommended the move, and 49 countries globally are also considering it.

Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) scooped up ten times more Bitcoin

than what miners were able to produce on Monday.
According to preliminary figures, at least $493.4 million or roughly 10,280 BTC net inflowed into spot Bitcoin ETFs as of Feb. 12.
BlackRock’s IBIT saw the lion’s share with a huge $374.7 million inflow. Meanwhile, Fidelity’s FBTC fund saw a $151.9 million inflow, and there was $40 million for Ark 21Shares’ ARKB fund. This was slightly offset by Grayscale outflows of $95 million and $20.8 million from Invesco’s BTCO, though net inflow was almost half a billion dollars.

Israel Gaza: Biden urges Israel to protect Rafah civilians

US President Joe Biden has said an Israeli offensive in Rafah "should not proceed without a credible plan for ensuring the safety" of more than one million Palestinians sheltering there.
He said many displaced people in the southern Gazan city were "exposed and vulnerable" and needed to be protected.
Rafah has come under heavy Israeli air strikes in recent days, with a number of casualties reported.
More than half of the Gaza Strip's population of 2.3 million is now crammed into the city on the border with Egypt, which was home to only 250,000 people before the war between Israel and Hamas erupted in October.
Many of the displaced people are living in makeshift shelters or tents in squalid conditions, with scarce access to safe drinking water or food.

Bitcoin Surges Above $48,000 Mark as Investor Confidence Returns
In a remarkable turn of events, Bitcoin surged past the $48,000 milestone, marking its highest point since the inception of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds. The flagship cryptocurrency’s price soared by 4.6% to reach $47,587.37, as reported by Coin Metrics. Ether, Bitcoin’s counterpart, also experienced a notable increase, climbing by 2.69% to settle at $2,492.97.
Bitcoin’s impressive rally saw it reaching heights of $48,207.78, a feat not achieved since January 11th, when it briefly touched $49,058.48 amidst volatile trading following the introduction of spot Bitcoin ETFs. Prior to this, Bitcoin had not breached the $48,000 mark since March 2022.
