And while Vivaldi is not open source, it calls out to check for updates, Widevine updates, and bug reports for a total of 3-4x in the whole day, as opposed to the 4x per hour or more that Firefox and Brave call out, continuously. If you want safety and security and most importantly, privacy, you go with Vivaldi.

@nprofile…qcga As someone who used to help contribute to Firefox, and who, outside the development, made a Linux installer for Firefox ("Firefox Automatic Installer for Linux"), I absolutely hate LibreWolf. -- Why? 🤔
LibreWorlf often breaks things (repeatedly). Then proceeds to blame Mozilla Firefox, even when Firefox was still good. They seldom took responsibility for their own issues and always passed the blame, despite those issues being exclusive to LibreWolf.
This only further hurt Firefox, because you had all these people saying, "just use LibreWolf" while also saying, "Firefox is the problem." But LibreWolf 100% depends on Firefox. They're a soft-fork who has made it clear, they have no intention of ever going independent. That means, when Firefox goes, so does, LibreWolf.
I switched to Vivaldi Browser. It is everything Firefox should have been. Yes, it is Chromium fork, but they do not follow along with everything Google does. Not only do they include their own ad-blocker, but they worked with uBlock to include v3 support going forward, that works nicely alongside their ad-blocker. I even use Privacy Badger alongside both.

Proton is leaving because Proton cannot control the flow of information here on the Fediverse.
Most corporations mimic social algorithms to their advantage, particularly, to suppress news and information that may not paint them in a good light. Proton cannot do that on the Fediverse.
When Proton rebranded a few years ago, which caused some people to lose their accounts with no refund, they silenced any complaints on both Facebook and Reddit. I know, because I was one of those people. Most of you were happy to have the new upgraded accounts, but if you had the original family plan, which they discontinued (only to start selling a new family plan months later), you were not a happy person to find out you lost your service.
Additionally, it has been brought to people's attention that Proton now falls under Us-jurisdiction. Proton would like to argue that is only for Proton Wallet, but our legal system does not allow a company to pick and choose. Plus, even if they could (you cannot), it means they could still be pressured and influence by US Politics and US Laws now. This was another little fact, Proton wanted to suppress, but cannot because the Fediverse is organic, and not centralized.

Good News -- Elon Musk cannot fire you.
1st, follow the chain of command. - That is important.
Something I have been following on Meta (Facebook) is there are government employees who were supposedly "fired" by DOGE, and ignored the comment. They kept going to work. And they're still getting paid, for going to work.
Additionally, there is a growing number of government employees who took the "you're fired" at face value, and now are finding out they cannot collect unemployment, because they're told they quit their jobs. Some have successfully appealed that, others no so lucky.
Elon Musk and his so-called DOGE agency were not passed by Congress, and many of these jobs they're trying to impose oversight, were passed by Congress.
Do not assume you have been laid off or fired, even if DOGE claims otherwise.

I like Linux, but I dislike GNU.
We could have had gaming on Linux, 20 years ago, and better hardware support 25 years ago. I like the idea of a General Strike, but it will never happen.

People really hate being wrong. Or perhaps, it is they dislike learning their choice, has turned bad, to no fault of their own. But denial should not be the outcome of facts.
The company you're using is in France or Germany or wherever, and along comes an American company who buys them out. That means, that company now falls under US-jurisdiction. Or perhaps they do not buy them out completely, but become the majority owner, and now sit on the board of directors. You may not like it, but that still means US-jurisdiction applies.
Or perhaps you believe, because they made a personal agreement not to interfere, despite being the primary owner, that somehow that is different. The government is not going to care about a personal arrangement, because the fact is, the ownership or majority of the ownership is now, American, by US Law.
You can be mad about it. You can claim how unfair that is. How much you dislike it. But it does not change the facts.

If you have not yet noticed, you are going to be targeted and conditioned to believe being a minority, women, LGBTQ, Trans, or progressive, is something you need to "work on".
You will soon notice (if you have not already), certain types of posts, including Facebook's AI posts, will follow a very selective worldview, and will be put more front and center. That includes the type of advertising you will be exposed.

Want and need are two different things, and often people make excuses to justify their wants.
For example, people need privacy, but want the convenience of using 1 corporation for everything. Then they complain how unfair that now empowered, and wealthy corporation is spying on them, selling all their information, and their CEO is funding racist fascist with the money everyone gives them. Please consider relocating your Fedi site outside the United States of America. Meta (Facebook) and X (Twitter) seems to know something, we do not, and I suspect it is not good if you are NOT a fascist. There are many good hosting providers outside the USA.
If you're considering starting a Fedi site, please know the domain name extensions dot Com, Net, Org, Info, Us, and Edu are controlled by, The United States. You can technically host outside the USA, and still have your domain name pulled (Mega Upload, is a historical example of this).
I am not suggesting anyone here is planning on doing anything immoral, unethical, or illegal. But history tells us, innocent people, sometimes are not treated innocently when fascist governments take root.

I have been checking my notifications all day, wondering if I am getting laid off.
There is a lot I am going to share if I do. I never signed the nondisclosure agreement. HR only ever brought up that fact two times (once during a review and once when they moved me to salary). I was asked to do so, expecting to receive a copy, but then no one followed up.

Pick a Linux distro that is visual. It's 2025, and there are more than a few Linux distros that are visual. For example, Ultramarine Linux, KDE Plasma (edition).
Do not compromise on visual. If you're imaging a Linux distro that is almost visual, but to update you need to run a command, it is the wrong distro. You can teach them all your tricks, only after they have visually learned, Linux, and doing it before, guarantees they will pick up a new PC with Microsoft Windows.

When I was a child, the first time I learned a forum community wanted me to be 13 years of age, I just simply said, I was. Today, if I were still a child, I would use a Visa or Mastercard gift card, that someone gave me during the holidays, and easily spoof those so-called modern age verification systems.
All these laws really do is harm small, innocent social networks, with no adult content, who cannot afford to age verify everyone.

You may discover someone following you claiming to be either Israeli or Palestinian, with only 1 or 2 post claiming they need money, along with a heart-filled story.
It is a scam because it is the same story (I noticed 4 versions of the same story) and with the same links (I spotted 7). All this over a span of 15 different accounts.
They end up following 100's of people and they do not post anything other than the same post. The goal is someone will see their profile, believe the story, feel bad, and send them some money. We have the same type of scam on Facebook.

Warum sollten Sie Sharkey verlassen?
1) Instabilität: Jede Sharkey-Instanz zeigt häufig 502-Fehler an. Die Entwickler behaupten, Misskey sei das Problem, aber das stimmt nicht. Ich verwende sowohl Misskey dot IO als auch Misskey dot DE. Das Problem ist Sharkey, das schon seit fast einem Jahr besteht. In der vorherigen Version gab es Speicherlecks, die Instanzen zum Stillstand oder Absturz brachten.
2) Die Führung: Die Entwickler haben dreimal gewechselt, was zu Unsicherheiten führt.
3) Finanzierung: Der Hauptentwickler bat immer wieder um Geld für einen Server, den sie schließlich für Minecraft verwendeten. Nachdem sie (geschätzte) 2.000 € aufgebracht hatten, verließen sie vier Monate später die Entwicklung und nahmen den Server mit, nachdem sie nicht genug Geld für eine GmbH aufbringen konnten.
4) Toxische Entwicklung: Anstatt an Sharkey zu arbeiten, trollt das Team oft Nutzer, die auf Probleme hinweisen.
5) LGBTQ+-Haltung: Bei berechtigter Kritik wird fälschlicherweise behauptet, die Kritiker seien homophob, was der LGBTQ+-Gemeinschaft schadet und die legitime Diskriminierung untergräbt.
Ich empfehle CherryPick als Alternative zu Sharkey. Es ist ein Fork von Misskey mit stabiler Entwicklung seit drei Jahren und einem Skript zur Konvertierung Ihrer Sharkey-Installation. CherryPick bietet mehr Funktionen und hat nicht die toxische Mentalität von Sharkey.
Auch wenn Sie meinen Vorschlag nicht annehmen, empfehle ich Sharkey nicht. Das Fediverse sollte ein sicherer Ort für alle sein, und Sharkey bietet keinen Mehrwert.
