Do I reach anyone who has experience with California #PublicRecords ? I am used to Oregons law, and I am finding California institutions seem to have a lot more techniques for delaying or refusing to produce records. At the moment im getting letters stating need for extension and estimates of availability that are setting extremely long and arbitrary dates (several months) for very constrained requests (eg. contracts with a single external vendor that would be made from a single office).
Whats the strategy for avoiding infinite delays? I havent even made it through a full request yet, and im assuming there will be more fun with fighting redactions and fees.

THERE YOU HAVE IT - github pages on @npub12r3…zz58 . you can even just use regular github actions with the forgejo runner. Now all i need is a little magic to be able to only map a subdirectory for each repository rather than the whole pages directory for every repository so i don't accidentally overwrite it and we're freaking golden.
Even caching works, this is faster than github pages!!!

There was this mistaken belief that the cops would obey the law and give a dispersal order and allow people to leave. I was shocked they actually did it at the second site that got barricaded, and they definitely weren't doing it at the third which was literally a natural kettle. Phone died. They cited and released the ~25 or so people that were being detained in Dodd, but they snatched up one person from outside late in the night for the crime of being on the megaphone and transported them to UCPD. Despite valiant efforts to barricade their exit, the cops managed to make it, shooting their full hoppers of pepper balls at peoples feet to keep them back. Ppl rallied over to UCPD as a sort of riotous jail support. stopped off to grab my bike and charge my phone for like 5m.

I am so unbelievably impressed by these student organizers. They have set up a vouch and wristband system to control access the camp, are on point with crowd control and de-escalation, making sure everyone is wearing a mask... fuck "just vote," this is how you scare the shit out of the political system. They just made it clear that they can take and hold a building whenever they want, and thats a good bargaining chip to have. Organizers say through faculty liason that university is offering a Palestinian study center and they said fuck that, divest.

Are there actually neuroscientists who dont believe that most invertebrates, fish, etc. have lowercase-c consciousness, an internal subjective experience of the world? Is the alternative that they are just reflex machines? Why wouldnt we make the opposite assumption - that animals that have a complex enough nervous system to run a whole body thats responsive to their ecosystem are "conscious" until proven otherwise. But what would the point be of proving otherwise? I guess im just deeply uninterested in semantic games that exclude most of the animal kingdom from the assumption of mere subjectivity.

Hello fedi. i am trying to solve the "fetch all replies" problem once and for all that makes the fedi feel a lot more desolate and with a lot more reply guys in it than it should be. this is take two, where before i had it triggered by a button, but now i think it should happen on the server-side whenever you expand a post. can anyone help me out figure out how to make this more efficient by only fetching posts that the server doesn't already have? i am not sure what the best strategy would be, and if anyone with experience doing efficient rails and SQL stuff could give me some pointers that would be gr8. the patch is actually extremely simple it just needs a few nice things to make it not DDoS everyone.

Netflix pays fb for ad space
Fb gives Netflix DMs to better target ads
Netflix gives fb back clickthrough and behavioral data, including data from rival advertisers (read: google)
So fb gets to say they dont use private messages for targeting ads, they just share them with whoever can give them more data on you, which is ofc fine.
