#Chernobyl #Fungus Seems to Have #Evolved an Incredible Ability
Clinging to walls of one of most #radioactive buildings on Earth, scientists have found a strange black fungus curiously living its best life.
Fungus called Cladosporium sphaerospermum, and scientists think its dark pigment – melanin – may allow it to harness ionizing #radiation through a process similar to the way plants harness light for photosynthesis. Proposed mechanism is referred to as #radiosynthesis.

I tried running #Linux on an #AppleSilicon #Mac and regretted it
#AsahiLinux is the best (and only) way to run Linux on a Mac
The thing about Apple silicon Macs is that it's not as simple as downloading an #AArch64 ISO of your favorite distro and installing it. Yes, the M-series chips are ARM-based, but that doesn't automatically make the whole system compatible in the same way most traditional x86 PCs are. Pretty much everything in modern MacBooks is custom.

#Climate models reveal how human activity may be locking the Southwest into permanent #drought
For decades, scientists have relied on a basic physical principle to predict rainfall trends: Warmer air holds more moisture. In a warming world, this means wet areas are likely to get wetter, while dry regions become drier. In dry areas, as temperatures rise, more moisture is pulled from soils and transported away from these arid regions, intensifying droughts.
