In the U.S, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that police can access your Google searches without a warrant.
The court's reasoning: users have no expectation of privacy because "it is common knowledge that websites, internet-based applications, and internet service providers collect, and then sell, user data."
That's what "free" really means. The business model depends on turning your search history into a detailed profile that can be sold, shared, and accessed by third parties.

You have choices and high quality options available. You don't have to accept an ad-infested experience, use AI you can't control or settle for mediocre or incorrect results. It's harmful to the web, compromises your privacy, and makes it difficult to find relevant information by humans.

Have a site or blog and want to have an easier way to search through its archives? This post outlines a good use of Kagi's Lenses feature for that purpose:
https://leancrew.com/all-this/2025/05/search-me/
"A Lens will focus Kagi’s search on one or more (up to ten) particular sites, date ranges, regions, keywords, or file types. You can also exclude sites or subsites. Kagi has several default Lenses, and you can add your own customized Lenses" 💡

"We have become numb to the taste of good software and hypnotized by the idea of free."
https://stephango.com/quality-software
We recommend reading this article about why quality software deserves your hard‑earned cash. Industrial software from big tech companies are subsidized by advertising, proprietary ecosystems, or enterprise contracts, creating the illusion that software should be cheap or "free". This often comes at the cost of your privacy and quality of the product.
