Australian nerds: what service do you use for offsite backup these days? I was a Crashplan user back in the day, but for the last few years have just been relying on local copies of my stuff. That's not ideal.
American internet loves Backblaze, but I don't love putting all of my data on American servers (enough of it already sits there). I'd like a set and forget option.

The one bright side of the local Dad’s groups on Facebook being a hotbed of Rise Up for Australia nonsense is that it makes it really easy to identify which local small businesses and their owners won’t be getting my money. It really narrows down the search when I’m looking for quotes on things.

A question for the Australians: we have just got our youngest his first phone now that he's in high school. It's basically a "dumb phone that also has WhatsApp”, and its primary purpose is for contacting us if something goes wrong with public transport, or he is contactable when out with friends.
Suggestions for cheap, low use calls and data plan that would suit? Currently tossing up between Aldi and Vodafone pay as you go long life credit options. Am I missing any obvious ones?

Charities round our way don’t like taking a lot of stuff. I don’t blame them. People like to just dump any old crap on to them and leave them with the cost of disposal.

We’ve been decluttering and listing items on Facebook Marketplace (both for $$ and free). This past week I have learned:
- people can’t read
- people are chronically entitled
- people are rude
- people are incapable of maintaining a personal schedule that facilitates them arriving at a known location at an agreed time, even when time and place are known days in advance and 9 times out of 10 they nominated the time in the first place
- the cheaper the item, the less they seem to think your time is worth anywhere near what their own time is worth
- I hate people
(The last point is a lie. I didn’t just learn that this week, I already knew it a long time ago)

Sounds very similar to what made the 2003 Canberra bushfires so destructive. These kinds of fires are terrifying in scale and scope for destruction.

I love it. Others I have spoken to also love it. I'm just not sure that the intended audience cares enough to justify the time I spend on it. I'm not very good at this stuff so it takes me a lot of hours to complete.
It's a labour of love, and my misguided sense of pride in the work that I do.

The best bit about the streaming services are that I can relive all the music of the late 90s and early 2000s where I lost track of their back catalogue in later years.
Currently quietly grooving to Afrocelt Sound System while pulling together the soccer club end of year book about 2 months too late, but damn it, removing backgrounds on action shots to make cool little photos for the words to wrap around in the margins adds a little delight to the end result.

Urgent unplanned-for renovations due to a leaking bathroom start tomorrow. The need to shuffle things around and effectively empty 2 rooms while maintaining the same level of nonsense clutter we already own has been distressing to say the least.
Having to weave my way through piles and piles of things upon things using goat tracks and desire paths inside my own house is proving to be a significant challenge. I look and feel like I’m inside an episode of Hoarders and I’m not really coping.
“This too shall pass” has become my “Serenity now”.
