Last Notes npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Businesses tend to throw UPS's out when the battery dies in 2-3 years and nothing is more affordable than not needing to pay.
It really just needs to be a decent quality unit (i.e. with an integrated fan) - it really isn't that expensive to solder on a fan to the right place, but it's not really worth it (a unit that bad may decide to light on fire on recharging a discharged car battery, due to terrible charge circuit design).
Not every proprietary country is the same - LFP UPS's are not generally available for a reasonable price, or available used in many countries, unlike lead-acid UPS's. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 No, as lead-acid is still marginally cheaper than LFP batteries and inverting to AC is easier.
UPS's are mostly designed to handle 1 second power disruptions and the 5 minutes minimum it takes WC's to shut down (although chances are the UPS will cut out before the WC finishes shutting down).
You can easily make good UPS's have good battery life, by wiring up used car batteries.
I hope for battery backup PSU's that have a fat LFP battery attached to a 12V, 5V and 3.3V DC-DC convertor, but that's not coming unless you make it yourself. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 At least he gets a diagram? npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Dual BIOS SPI flash chips are a thing on many low-end motherboards from the Core 2 Duo era.
Real motherboards have a DIP-8 socket, so you can pull out the SPI flash and replace it with another good one, or flash GNUboot externally. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Unmaintained, but you could use an old version. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Hurd was also a supported kernel in the past, same with BSD kernel's.
The April fools joke was a release of the latest version. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 *Gentoo GNU
Gentoo by default comes without Linux - you need to choose what kernel to install and that can be Hurd. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Aarch64 often is a different CPU arch between SoC's - there are so many different versions and variants that everything needs to compiled per SoC.
Aarch64 SoC's are also all completely different - specific .dtb's etc are needed.
Those are the reasons why there are no generic GNU/Linux distros that work across Aarch64 SoC's. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 A 8 motor drone would be much more reliable at that scale. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Have you considered not spying on the users by not requiring a mobile number to sign up? npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Even if you don't wash at all, that won't happen if you change and wash clothes at least once a week and actually move occasionally (the human body has evolved to survive without washing - skin slowly flakes off, carrying filth with it - although clothes and not moving elsewhere and leaving behind the pile of flakes interferes with such process).
Skin sores full of bacteria and fungi only tend to happen if you are bedridden and never wash. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 It's odd that foul tasting drinks that exist for the poison, are sold without the poison in the first place, so it's not surprising alcohol removed mead isn't available. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Too bad, the bugs are going into the flour unlabelled. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 It's not like neofetch needs any maintenance, considering it's a GNU Bash program. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Tmux is slopware now? npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Pissmail went proprietary - thus not much of value was lost. https://media.freesoftwareextremist.com/media/b6/c6/8a/b6c68a1edb694838f53acd7010ed6b8fe9ebfeac9bbb7bdcd428fc36f373486d.png npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 >Japanese-IP only.

While it advertises proprietary software, at least it doesn't require running proprietary software to use. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 That's nice, but has some sperg made an ultimate DB version? npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 You have to be stroking out to say something nice about apple. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Every time you refer to GNU as "Linux", microsoft wins. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 The GNU desktop works fine on GNUbooted ThinkPads.
Display hotplug works? npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 The ring was used to fight the darkness, as near the end, every use was to bring it closer to it's destruction and finally it was destroyed forever.
It's fine to run proprietary software if every use is to work towards getting rid of it and in the end it is deleted. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 The typical 漫画 editing process consists of drawing a dirty storyboard for each page in pencil, then deciding what the text will be, then doing a fine pencil drawing of each page and then inking it, painstakingly erasing the pencil marks once inked.
Publishing 漫画 isn't very fancy and could more easily be done with only free software - each page is scaled to the chosen resolution and then sorted into the final book, including title pages and a table of contents.
Clothing is typically not made using proprietary software - it is stitched together with a sewing machine (generally following designs in use for 100+ years). npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 It appears that most Rozen Maiden seasons were mostly hand drawn.
Although it was sad that proprietary software was used to produce the animes, the 2013 season especially so and how the 2013 includes the usage of proprietary software, playing the video files can be done with 100% free software and therefore isn't a freedom problem. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Due to all the benefits of milk, they just kept drinking it for generations until they retained their lactase expression into adulthood. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 >Yet more plastic waste. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Documentation/process/changes.rst

Well that's interesting - Linux needs the GRUB OS to work? (while GRUB doesn't particularly need Linux to work). npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 What is Linux, but a kernel?

Many such cases of GNU being needed to build Linux. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 I remember seeing a "missing free firmware" dmesg output years ago, but it seems that message is now removed. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Linux does the whining and even lies by referring to it as "free". npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Realtek NIC's do not need proprietary software although it is available - those run without it. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Unlike most computers, even the damn Ethernet card on some ARM boards run proprietary software.
On computers, you're typically good unless the NIC is broadcom. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Oh that's the "ESPRESSObin Ultra Board".
The site is quite broken; https://espressobin.net/tech-spec/ npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 espressobin seems to use DDR4 - and as far as I'm aware, the only computer with free DDR4 RAMinit is the Talos systems.
USB 3.0 is often implemented with proprietary software too.
The onboard 802.11 a/b/g/n +ac/ 2T2R wifi relies on proprietary software functionality.
It seems to have 4MB of SPI NOR flash, which is a place where proprietary software can go - if there is in fact no proprietary software in u-boot - it always comes on the SBC.
It'll take at least 6 hours to investigate properly. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 But that board still ran proprietary software at the end. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Having to reverse engineer hardware to turn proprietary drivers into free drivers (and running into copyright issues etc) can be harder than working out how to configure coreboot's build system with the correct options to produce a working image (as there's a free chipset driver and free RAMinit etc already). npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Porting coreboot and then cleaning the proprietary software out seems extremely hard, but maybe it's easier than getting freedom on a ARM SoC? npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 `flashrom -p internal -w image.bin` or external programming is easier. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 >Firmware >Look inside. >Software.
You can just replace the APCI with the APCI implementation in GNUboot on good computers to deal with ACPI problems and not have to deal with dtbs. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Yes, u-boot is the problem.
You can't just boot from a flash drive or a CD - you need to prepare a specific configuration of Linux with specific dtbs, a specific initramfs and then also support a cursed partitioning scheme for the GNU.
Booting from a SD isn't that bad, but that has terrible performance - you kind of need to be able to boot from eMMC or a SSD. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 SBCs are pretty much designed to be unbootable, as none implement a bootable standard like BIOS. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 The dock has only 4 PCIe lanes and you need 8 PCIe lanes to use more than a single 40GbE module without half speed. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Explain all the bugs found in uutils then.
Rust doesn't seem to be that good at eliminating bugs - rather it seems to make them. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 coreutils is only one GNU package and systemd has a hard dependency on GNU.
But yes, the long term goal is to remove the GNU/Freedom.
Rust doesn't fully eliminate memory bugs and increases the number of other bugs exponentially - as it forces you to write more lines and use far more syntactical tokens to do the same thing than GNU C.
More lines mean more bugs and most bugs are not memory bugs - those are logic bugs. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Those are ASIC's, not GPUs. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 You have to be sick in the head to even think up something like that.
Even if such activities were to become legal, those would still be immoral. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Just because something is illegal doesn't mean it is immoral.
There are some cases where an immoral activity is taken that is copyright infringement and there is also other cases where a moral activity is taken that is copyright infringement. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 A competent judge would tell an attorney to stop lying if he claimed that copyright infringement is theft - but it seems that judges are the complete opposite to competent.
Copyright infringement is a violation of a government granted monopoly and the government does not regards "violations" of such monopoly as theft.
Being able to think clearly about something is a functional purpose. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 Yes, you should have the freedom to speak or write the truth, even if it makes people uncomfortable. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 >Jewish semantic games.

You know, people refer to software that runs on the systems main processor like a BIOS or UEFI as "firmware" too?
Firmware in fact refers to socketed {P}ROM chips that cannot be programmed with software, but you can just swap the chip.
This was common with computers BIOS's originally, but after BIOS's moved to EEPROM's, businesses still called it "firmware" and later also realized that if they refer to software as "firmware", many people believe x is not software, thus they do it often.
>the point is that a program depending on another program to function is how nearly all software works, including things no one would call a single program
With nearly all software there is a clear separation - you can delete and swap out parts and things keep working, as each part is separate programs.

Correct - that is in fact one program and that's fine, as those are free software (except for the GPU part of xmrig, but xmrig does work without a GPU). npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 >firmware is obviously a kind of software
Can you explain what is so special about the software that it qualifies for firm?

AMDGPU doesn't merely launch the proprietary programs - IPC is done with the programs via passing data structures back and forth.
It's the same program - just split up into several parts - an indication of this being the case is not being able to delete proprietary parts and have a driver that works at all.
If you could delete the proprietary software and make a few tweaks and amdgpu still somewhat worked, I would agree that it is a distinct program from amdgpu.
>would you say bwrap is "part of Firefox", just because firefox launches bwrap to manage namespaces?
bubblewrap is in fact mostly unrelated to firefox and will sandbox any program and not just firefox.
You can delete bubblewrap and tweak firefox to not longer user namespaces and firefox will otherwise operate identically.
Even if bwrap is part of firefox, that's fine, as bwrap is free software. npub1lteytmkwe0d84tpngrt86e2ysh5wyh4cngl04cekfywx0732r20q7ynuyv GNU/翠星石 >amdgpu are both free, are you talking about amd firmware or something else
You have been successfully confused.
There is nothing firm about the proprietary software - it's software - how it's loaded by the main processor onto an auxiliary processor is only a technical detail.
The amdgpu driver is proprietary software, as as least half of it is proprietary software.
