If you compare nearly equivalent ICE and EV models, how long does it take for the operating savings to offset the higher acquisition cost of the EV?

A temporary gas price cap would make sense for Canada about now, as an alternative to windfall taxes. In my area, something like $1.85/L would make sense. High enough to reduce consumption, low enough to reduce profits and check inflationary pass-thru to everything else (like food).

In the Canadian Championships...
#OttawaAtletico #OttawaAtlético, normally playing in tier-2 pro Canadian Premier League (#CPL), beat Toronto FC, normally playing in tier-1 Major League Soccer (#MLS)
Toronto weakened by missing a couple of veterans to injury, but shows how close the tiers are, and that execution really matters. Atlético currently 2nd last in the CPL as well.
Go #Ottawa!

Straight up lies in the CBC article about Canada's finances.
Canada does not "borrow cash" - it creates cash. There is no fundamental debt limit. No "debt wall" exists, and the "credit rating" for Canada in Canadian-dollar debt is meaningless. These are all weasel words to advocate for austerity, to put more wealth in the hands of the wealthy.
Canada's "debt" is all in Canadian dollars and the bondholders could be paid in full tomorrow.
So why do these bonds exist?

RE: https://mastodon.social/@gnomon/115749015911513360
In the 1980 constitutional negotiations lead by Trudeau Sr. There was bargaining about trading the federal disallowance for the notwithstanding clause. It failed, NWC and disallowance went ahead.
Disallowance is not some ancient loophole that should never be used, it was retained exactly for this possibility, where provinces abuse the NWC to attack minority rights.
This is a petition calling for disallowance to be used to counter the NWC abuse that provs are using to attack trans people.

Maybe the accumulated dividends help, but if one bought at $82 in 2000, they'll be waiting quite a while yet to turn that around.

don't agree with this assumption that AI-generated music isn't copying/stealing from artists. It's just doing it at a scale and with a technique that makes it untraceable. The program is trained on a vast library of unlicensed, copyrighted music, arrangements, lyrics, voice characteristics.
Of course, human artists have been doing the same forever, which puts it in a strange place.

hard to manage without WAN, and I don't want cloud management anyway... that's asking for trouble. I'm not sure it could be setup without WiFi, they don't make the default IP obvious. And the default IP conflicts with the existing gateway, which is necessary to use WiFi.
Eventually I managed to change the IP and get into the local webui to manage it.

I wasn't successful getting the HexS to run the SFP ONT in 2.5G mode, but I think I would be eventually.
I expected the CGF would be easier, but I was wrong. It did manage to connect once to my ISP, but quickly dropped it. Generally no light on the SFP+ slot. The management approach is a mess.

Why should Canadians accept grand national scale projects to make this situation even worse? Why should only US and Chinese companies be getting the sweet deals?

it's issuance, unless the govt. has a tax surplus at the time - then they can pay coupons, and principal, if the bond is maturing...pay it out of tax revenue, then no dollars are issued. If the govt. ran enough surpluses, they could pay off all the debt. But the tax surplus has to come from the private sector, it's a private sector deficit, which would be a severe depression.

but its literally accounted as a liability - the govts annual deficit and added the the govts debt. Money printing is not theft. Agree that they will use violence if you don't acquire it somehow to settle taxes.
Corrupt misallocation of spending and taxation is theft, not the creation itself. The corruption predates systems of money.

I've always heard bonds described as "green dollars vs yellow dollars". Green or yellow, they are still a liability to the issuer until they're used to settle taxes/fees/tarrifs.

how much of $1.1B went to KPMG? How much went to Quebec govt executives unqualified for any involvement with software delivery?

This is excessive and misguided to me.
If religious exploitation is to be reduced, the govt. just has to start taxing the incomes of religious orgs. that are not spent on charitable works.
But that would mostly impact the catholic church in Quebec, so it won't be happening.
Is this about crazed itinerant street preachers, or is it about brown people having a BBQ in the park? I'm pretty sure it's about brown people hanging out.
