One day I should check if I can still do handstands. I've kinda always been able to do them thanks to my Dad. When I was like a toddler or something he thought it'd be funny to turn me over and stand me on my hands. He let go much to the displeasure of my mom, and I managed to hold my balance.
I don't have a real first hand memory of this so from my perspective handstands were just a thing I could do.

It can definitely be used like that, but I don't find it inspired me to use it like that. It's the same hiccup I have with various things outside the Twitter-style microblogging: I feel like I have to have something worth writing before using them.
Also, I want to be able to place notes where only some folks can see without needing N number of accounts.

If I had to take a list of ideas that could be interesting to implement outside of Maude it'd be:<li>Forward declaration of symbols you want to use.</li><li>Detecting invalid constructions (tho with better error messaging).</li><li>Object oriented rewriting.</li><li>Static typing (with a bit leaner syntax)</li>
I've explored some of this with Nova, Pile-of-Queues, and Tabby. If you go poking at Maude, I recommend skimming chapters 3 - 6 to find all the bits of syntax you need, 8 as a reference of functions, and 9 to figure out I/O.
My short hand understanding of some of Maude's most confusing terms:
sorts = types
subsorts = subtypes
kinds = types for incomplete programs
(probably not 100% correct but :T)

Once I stopped trying to engage with it's theory, there was some fun to be had (and some strife). I definitely feel like there is space for a Maude-like system that cleans up some of these rough edges.

At no point did I use RowX as an object identifier. I spent ages trying to debug this code changing out the other variables I had for RowX.<code>rl [show-row] : show-row-iter(N) show-row(RowX, N) < RowX : RowClass | cells : (C1 C2 C3) > => < RowX : RowClass | cells : (C1 C2 C3) > print-cells(...) wait-for-print-cells(N) . </code>
Eventually I changed RowX to Row1 and suddenly I was grabbing an object. Then I changed it to a different variable, O and suddenly it printed the whole grid:<code>rl [show-row] : show-row-iter(N) show-row(O, N) < O : RowClass | cells : (C1 C2 C3) > => < O : RowClass | cells : (C1 C2 C3) > print-cells(...) wait-for-print-cells(N) . </code>
This is just insane behavior. I feel like object labels deserve their own separate concept. Like, this language is already seeped in terminology and features, why skip out on this?

I'm pretty sure Maude's object notation means objects are associated by their type (sort in Maude's lingo). <code>< Capital : Lizard | ... > </code>
It loosely maps to what I was doing with Pile of Queues, however Maude lets you match on objects partially.
What was *insane* to me is that the concept of a variable was overloaded. Before a multi-letter variable name was just a normal variable, but the *moment* you touch objects, that multi-letter variable gets transmuted into a label for the object.

I hold the opinion the worst thing to happen to English was easy access to dictionaries and how people used them to prescribe English.
(Not that I consider dictionaries bad, per se, it's good to be able to look up what a word is. More so the culture that seemed to build up around them. Especially online grammar nazism. I do in fact enjoy reading through a big dictionary and finding words I've never heard of and may never use.)

I was going to try and do movement using relative positioning in the fox and rabbit project, but in my case, it would have been too many combinations. So I opted for simply "wrap around until we meet".

Everytime I do the joke of "harhar imagine chrome as a bare metal OS instead of ChromeOS being Linux running Chromium as a DE". There is part of my brain that goes "jee toss an html file down an running like an app sound so simple compared what the fuck going on UIs today". And, do own a KaiOS feature phone that runs like a fork of FirefoxOS. Probably the easiest experience with making a thing appear on a phone I've ever had.
(This is not a recommendation for KaiOS feature phones. Those things are e-waste marketed to low-income communities in the global south. But it was easy to make a little calculator for that's all I'm saying.)
Like, it's easy to grandstand about Web Bad and Browsers Bad... but they were where I learned a good chunk of programming just because it was so easy to think down an html, toss in some JavaScript and have something interactive on my screen immediately. That's also why I fell in love with LÖVE. It's also why Godot ends up being my primary choice of UI kits.
(Additionally, compiled languages are slogs for UIs you want on different platforms. Cross compilation of graphical applications is a miserable process. Cross compiling pure Go libraries was kinda dark magic to me.)
Building UIs in [tote](https://wiki.xxiivv.com/site/tote.html ) was a fascinating experience. Working in a completely graphic manner and using the UI itself as code hit different. It reminded me a lot of what I loved in Self. See a thing, copy a thing, tweak it into a new thing. All of which was living and transparent code you could poke with live feedback.
[inb4 GRAPHICS AND GUI ARE BAD AKTUALLYLLALLALY. You are talking to an artist and a game dev, I will just block anyone make that tired ass take.]

It implements additional, subtraction, multiplication, and division with remainder. You can select where you want to add tokens. Divmod pushing the quotient to the active register and the remainder to the inactive register. The final part of that video is "14 / 3 = 4r2"

It's also amusingly fault tolerant. If my wheat is in the wrong season it'll just resynchronize itself. Also, the fact that this is live programming to a degree as I change the state of the program by hand. None of this had to be planned for it was just kinda the result of the system.

That's root domain to subdomain. However, if I go to lists.sr.ht/~rabbits there is nothing on this page that lets me go back up to sr.ht/~rabbits without editing the URL in the bar. It's a pattern I see in a lot of places not just sourcehut. It was just the latest place I got navigation black-holed on.

Sourcehut is like the prime example of a type of website design I hate. Where a root domain has links to several subdomains, but *none* of those subdomains have a way back to the root. So if you say... jump to a subdomain via bookmarks or browser history, you are effectively stuck in that subdomain.
Surely I can't be the only person driven *insane* by this???

Just kinda going with vibes, and thinking "if I was out with a friend how would I write that". And my mind just want {{self other} outside}. Cause I'm here, they're here, we are outside.
Using the emphasis or plurality of self for the simple concept of "me and someone else" feels like a waste of abstract concept.{self self}
could be used as an internal "we". The "we" you use when you are thinking through stuff. Or, at least the "we" I use when thinking through things.
"What do we need to do to day"
"Here we are going to use to do by ".
Maybe a phrase like {{self self outside} {self inside} now past} could be translated/interpreted to mean "I've been on autopilot for a while now". Or a more literal translation "my inner self outside. I am inside. from past to now".

Doodling a little idea for a language without word order. Concepts float around each other to form "sentences" and "thoughts".
I might muck about with this idea cause I don't have to come up with grammar rules. The message in the bottom right can either be "I will see you later" or "You will see me later" (or probably other interpretations I didn't think of).

ironically my calculus teacher told us to avoid simplify fractions because he found it often lead to an increase in small mistakes, lmao.
As far as I can tell it's a bit of a mathematical style guide to reduce your fractions. Also an exercise in being able to see the equivalence between some fractions.

This article happened to cross my path. It's largely just reporting over the articles findings, but the opening paragraph irked me:

The problem in this case isn't the choice of programming languages, but the unrestricted growth of data centers. With the introduction of LLMs, the training of them has seen titanic jumps in power usage. Additionally, data centers have a much, *much* more destructive cost to them: water usage. We don't even know how much water some companies use because they have managed to label that a trade secret...
If you are researching low power computing, keep pushing that field forward. We will need low-energy tools. I want to see extreme efficiency in computing. But, there is no future where a privatized centralized data center, trying to extract patterns and monetary value from god-knows-how-much-data, is not a resource hog.

Programming language power efficiency always feels like the tech industry green washing if I'm being honest. It always comes and goes on a pretty predictable year or two cycle.
A data center switching everything to Rust won't use less power than running Java, as the companies running these resources hogging computing warehouses will just use the reduced overhead to further expand their through-put.
Training AI crap will always use astronomical compute resources because they'll use everything they can usurp regardless of language.
