If you feel you can't do a thing without an #LLM, step back and realise this is like saying you're dependent on big tech for that thing. Even #localAI models don't avoid that.
When perhaps instead of becoming a less able person -because using #LLMs causes cognitive decline- you could do the hard work of learning. Switching you from a viscous circle of more dependence to a virtuous circle of increasing skill, understanding and autonomy.

it's hard to equate immoral with unhealthy IMO, so I'm not convinced that's a useful framing.
I don't buy the former either tbh.
It seems clearer to me to say doing harm matters, needs to be considered and ignoring that says something about a person. Then it becomes a matter of degree and who is harmed.
We all cause harm to others, so it's not black and white. It's also hard to know how much harm (or good) we do unless there are systems in place to measure this.

Moral and ethical issues aside...
Is the mark of a sociopath. If you catch yourself saying things like this, check your privilege and get some help before you end up doing serious harm to others.

#FediHelp! #ssh key managers for Linux please, based on...
I'm setting up a #HomeLab including three #Proxmox nodes with various VMs and containers (Inc Docker), an OpenWrt router. Plus a cheap VPS for remote access using #Pangolin, but I don't know how it plays with #ssh yet. So maybe this is a dumb question?
Clients will be a Linux laptop and maybe a couple of Android phones with a terminal app.
Any advice about apps you have used yourself? 🙏

My partner cancelled a #Vodafone mobile contact by email and years later was taken to court by a debt collector, but won. Though the experience was awful. In a private room with just their lawyer and my partner she was verbally bullied and threatened, but didn't give in.
This is on Vodafone IMO, for not cancelling, then selling the debt despite all the emails they had and which the judge accepted made the debt claim spurious.

I had this cancelling broadband once and refused to call them.
Instead I wrote a letter saying i was cancelling the contract and that it was not acceptable to me to be required to do anything else, and threatening legal remedy should they fail to cancel.
IIRC they wrote back saying they did this because they needed some information from me (really?) but it went through anyway.
My default is always to write letters because it creates a record that's hard to refute.

Thanks for sticking with it. It's early days so much to improve, but the point is that this works and is great for users (privacy, control and security for data, no censorship etc) and developers (use standard web skills/tooling, no hosting/domain costs or maintenance, free scalability).
Every version of every website or app published remains accessible forever too. So no link rot, no loss of access to your data or your favourite app.

It might be that the network is a bit unreliable because it is undergoing an upgrade and lie of people restarting nodes can make it a bit unreliable, or it might be a new bug resulting from the changes.

My #AutonomiDweb App has been updated to improve performance.
Use it to access a world of #decentralized websites and dynamic web apps hosted on the #p2p cloud that is the #Autonomi network.
No gatekeepers, domains, hosting services, surveillance, data breaches, censorship etc. Just you, and a fully encrypted storage network.

We need a better option, something as easy and effective as Medium etc, but which avoids the need to know about hosting, servers or to be under the control of anyone else (benevolent dictators included).
That's the idea between #AutonomiDweb though it is not quite there, and will need to grow content before a lot of folk will take it seriously.

I'm close to sharing my most ambitious decentralised app for #Autonomi yet.
It's a single 40k file of HTML that loads from the secure anonymous p2p network and talks to it over a REST API provided by a local #dweb server that I created.
It's going to be fun: a cross between chat and Mastodon/Twitter/X type #SocialMedia
I delayed release to support avatars, but nearly done now.
Secure, encrypted, #p2p social media. Simple to install and join.

That's the same way I argue against all these dark patterns: what if you did this in a personal relationship - what would happen?
Simple example: you send me a message that I can't reply to, and if I don't do what you ask you repeatedly send the same instruction in increasingly forceful and believable tone.
That's how my fucking Doctor's practice now operates and it is abuse FFS.

Maybe someone should make a list of all the things the US oligarchs' #AI chatbots won't talk about so we can compare with China's #DeepSeek.
We certainly can't expect mainstream media to do that.
I'm serious, all these models need to be characterised and compared on not just how rubbish they are, but the censorship and distortions they are being used to implement.
Same for the social media platforms etc.

Of course I understand those points and that you think you are doing it in the best way you can.
Reality though is that tolerating and as I point out, providing *support* to Nazis, racists and bigots by helping their enablers (Meta and X), is what leads to people like Trump and Hitler overturning democracy through legal means.
Democracy is easily lost when not enough people stand up for its values.
Let's all be more like South Korea and less like Russia, Hungary and the USA.

I pay you £60 per year but avoid Patreon for the same reasons I don't want fedi touching #Meta or any other anti-human sociopathic entity.
So you selected for people who are already ok with supporting sociopaths, for whatever reason.
Please #defederate #fedi from anti-human sociopathic systems like #Threads. Not doing so literally supports those entities and the racists, Nazis and bigots they foster and amplify.

And ok, I'm interested in this too and building an app related to that for Autonomi which is still in testing so not ready for you yet. When it is, next year?, it might be just what you want.
Right now my goal is an rclone backend to deliver versioned backup. Earlier though I demo'd versioned websites and I'm figuring out how to incorporate both, and other features into a cross platform app. File sharing is obviously part of the potential here.

I had a problem finding software to test the integrity of filesystems when I created a FUSE mount for a decentralised filesystem a few years ago.
I'll face a similar problem soon, for the latest incarnation which will use rclone instead of FUSE, so it would indeed be interesting to run Bonnie against a range of rclone backends, including my p2p based fs. I'll let you know if I ever get that far.
Thanks for making this such an interesting read.

Nothing owned centrally is decentralised whatever it claims.
But #Bluesky has turned out to be another centralised system with a #decentralized paint job.
Decentralisation is extremely hard, not just technically but in every aspect. VCs for example cannot be involved. Anyone with a capitalist mindset will also be prone to replicating that unconsciously - which is almost everyone whether we realise it or not.
It will happen IMO, but is taking its time!

Iroh sounds interesting. I've been hanging and working in this space for a decade but only just heard of you so want to know more about n0 before digging into or building on iroh.
I'm sensitive to licensing and the kind of organisation doing the development. BSD style is a stretch for me while AGPL is ideal.
What kind of organisation is n0, why Apache licensing and why have a 'legal' page that is empty?
Do you see any drawbacks with non GPL? No debate wanted, just your perspective.

That seems easier than the pager attack for targeted assassination, and potentially for more widespread attacks.
I don't think it's wise to dismiss or underplay the significance of this attack, not only but also not least because it is a war crime.

It's not clear what exploded, but causing a lithium battery to short circuit seems plausible.

One of the most important steps that you can take to resist the enclosure we are being subjected to by wealthy shareholders, is to protect your privacy.
This is what they are tearing apart, and the reason is that it gives them power over us, and enables them to control and exploit us.
So if you value #freedom, stop giving away data about yourself, your friends and family, your ideas etc for free.
Use web not native apps, build #FOSS, support #encryption, local rather than cloud etc.

I've never run a native app or given up my phone number to Discord, Twitter, Facebook etc. but Discord want it to verify my account. As each of the others tried to do before I left them.
It's nonsense. They don't need that to know I'm legit.
It's all abuse of #privacy so I'm out.

You're far from alone in seeming blanket anti 'crypto', whatever each person takes that to mean. The latter being part of the problem.
I'm interested to see what are your concerns, and to have less blanket, more detail on what you see as good or bad.
I've watched this unfold for over a decade and I do get it, but I'm not for throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
