Another well meaning but likely controversial take on #Linux desktop environments: they certainly appear to be for higher end, dedicated users. Too many things seem to require terminal commands or editing configuration files.
Have things improved? Would anyone suggest Linux to a nontechnical family member?

Thank you! But I want to be clear, what this demo shows is NOT a click, it is a drag from an overlapped window to a topmost window. I'm worried this setting you're talking about applies only to a mouseDown + mouseUp combination in a background windows. Do I have that right?
The behavior I want is:
1. Single click on bg window: raise it
2. Drag on icon in bg window: just highlight icon and start dragging, no raise
Does this setting allow this behavior?

Thanks Julian! As I said in my OP, it's totally expected that this is mostly engineering led, but as often happens, there is often a few small things you could add to the UX that would mitigate the pain. If I can join the discord I'll jump in.

"Moving between servers" has been a #UX issue for years now. Is anyone looking at fixing this? I'm certainly happy to help with any UX design. I expect there are deep API issues that make this hard so I have no illusions this is "a simple fix" but it does feel like a core problem that should be solved.

I have never liked Steve Jobs as a person, and generally despise his management style (I know too many people hurt by him). But this video, especially as it relates to Google, hits far too close to home.

This is obviously easy for a programmer to figure out. But "moving changes from one branch to another" is not a trivial task for anyone else! Having to 'think like a programmer' puts a huge burden on others ability to help.
I'm meeting with the team to figure this out and we'll write up a tutorial doc. There is a way forward, I'm not saying I should never use git but:
* Don't force your contributors to be experts in git
* Document the process
* Help them help you

Here is ONE simple example of how #UX designers are hampered with contributing to #opensource
1. I'm helping fix the documentation of a project (pick something small right?)
2. I make the PR (They use codespace on GitHub)
3. LOTS of work for me to understand how to do the PR but I get it in
4. The reviewer makes tons of comments (Great!)
5. But makes 'suggested changes' which I accept
6. Which creates a new branch
7. Which means my CodeSpace can no longer make changes
8. My PR is in limbo

There is far too much 'walking on eggshells" in #OpenSource, mostly because the power lies with the people that are the most easily offended. I've been clobbered for saying the "#UX of opensource isn't great". The advice is always the same:
* Go slow
* Don't rock the boat
* Make small changes
That is great advice, for a dysfunctional relationship. To be clear, I'm NOT saying be dictatorial! I'm saying we can't fix a system that doesn't want to be fixed.
