(These days you can't be sure if anything's true, but I read recently that there are around 100 boats where he lived, and only one of them had managed to pay council tax!) npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…tkx6 Yes but no. He could definitely put him in the Lords (if he agreed), but by convention he couldn't be PM. PM has to be answerable to the Commons. Lord Home (?) stood down from the Lords to become Sir Alec Douglas-Home. I _think_ the last PM in the Lords might have been Lord Roseberry in 1898 or so! npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…d2ua Actually I realise that isn't true. I _have_ seen swifts patrolling some fields occasionally for insects.I was thinking back to my youth in Somerset as the swifts, swallows and house martens nested all around, and gathered on the wires in late summer. A local Green councillor has 3 swift boxes on their cottage, never seen an occupant, sadly. My sister does have swallows nesting in her barn, one family, not dozens to hundreds! npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…d2ua Wonderful! I haven't seen a swift for 60 years! npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…vkdh That's amazing, well done! I have a cassette tape of an "Australian symphony of birds" or similar (orchestra and bird calls). After our last cassette tape died, I wanted to find a digital version, but no luck, and have not been able to find a working tape deck, either. A very small thing, not worth great effort, but annoying. So, well done you. npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…hnhd Great photos! I only ask because, since Covid, disposable paper cups have made a big comeback here in the UK... (there were efforts to eradicate before, less so now it seems). npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…tkx6 Conversion between two flavours of sRGB should do very little, and probably nothing noticeable. You're right not to worry about it! npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…tkx6 They should not be different, of course. But if it's in GIMP's version, maybe the processing paths might be smoother? npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…tkx6 NOT an expert in colour workflows. BUT, if your destination is mostly the web, then sRGB is the profile of choice (AFAIK). Anything else, Adobe RGB etc, tend to be wider colour spaces that might give you more editing flexibility with your colour-managed monitor, and maybe print better on your own colour-managed printer. But for web and most commercial (or simple) printers, sRGB is fine. I have only ever used sRGB. BTW that image is in sRGB already! npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…fu94 Congratulations, John. Maybe I'm just too tired to read it properly! It's a bit like someone heard some words and reproduced some of them in not quite the right order... Nominal 6:30 in HC-110 1+47 (dilution E). First surprise was the dev colour when pouring it out, pretty much dark coffee coloured! Second surprise was looking at the negs when I took the lid off to wash. The clear substrate makes them look completely different to normal negs. As I was pulling them out of the tank for the PhotoFlo wash (in a separate jug) I thought maybe they were thin, maybe not? #BelieveInFilm https://media.mastodon.scot/media_attachments/files/114/892/201/003/071/621/original/299ef4a495ce67c5.jpeg npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR At last I've worked out how to turn off predictive text on my Mac. They look quite relaxed about you photoing them, which is nice. I wonder if that comes from kids with their smart phones taking photos all the time? Impressed with the rainbow braces (you call them something else?), not often seen in the UK these days (and probably never rainbow!). npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…zqfp Unlikely to be successful, but those who object to the implementation of the #OnlineSafetyAct should sign the petition... https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/722903 I can't see how masto instances can avoid getting embroiled in this. It was only ever available on desktop AFAIK, but it was very useful and very well implemented, zooming in from the 50K to the 25K maps showing field boundaries. It was there a week or so ago, gone today when I tried to look up some footpaths for a walk tomorrow. :-( npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…z98w 7 1/2 minutes seems to work well for that. I did my second roll for 8 minutes in HC-110 dilution E, and it seemed lovely. Woodland scenes can be lovely, this works (I find about one in ten maybe work for me! Normally H times are twice B times... npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR On a whim I bought a roll of #ADOX #Scala50 (plus 2 rolls of ADOX HR-50, which apparently is the exact same film advertised for negative rather than reversal processing). Having done a quick search and failed, does anyone know a UK lab that offers b&w reversal processing? Analogue Wonderlab used to (from when they absorbed Silverpan), but it appears to be suspended. Plenty of places offer 8-film processing kits, but that doesn't make sense for me. #BelieveInFilm #FilmPhotography npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…ytt6 @nprofile…z98w I believe they oukd have had sails, like the Mykonos windmills in these photos https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo/mykonos-greece-windmill-sails.html?sortBy=relevant npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…hujc @nprofile…v55k Glad of that! ;-) npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…hujc @nprofile…v55k Are you sure your article still exists? A problem with the Rondinax is you can't see or feel if something's gone wrong. Realised a problem on opening after the fix, managed to despool and respool some of the film, and re-fix. It appears I've saved all but about 4 (make that 5) frames. Phew! #FilmPhotography #BelieveInFilm npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…ytt6 What a lovely composition, and such beautiful contrasts of tones and detail! npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR Out trying to make #trichrome in Holyrood Park today, I spent half the time I had, trying to unfold my travel tripod! TBF I've only used it once before. Once I finally found the trick to get my Vanguard Veo 2 into position, it worked a treat. Exposed 24 frames of Kentmere 100 though red, green and blue filters, so that should eventually turn into 8 colour frames, hopefully with lots of interesting colour glitches where things have moved between frames! #FilmPhotography #BelieveInFilm npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR I have about 75 ml of my 2018 litre bottle of HC-110 left, in 2x50ml bottles. Each bottle appears to have a few mm of solid deposit at the bottom. I've been worrying about this; presumably it's precipitate, which means the chemical composition of the syrup has changed. Did a dev session last night though, and the negs seem to have nice contrast, decent blacks etc. Maybe I don't have to buy my next bottle yet! #FilmPhotography #BelieveInFilm npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR Our local U3A photography group meeting next week has the theme "‘Arty’ Photos by Enhancement". My first thought was to try some Intentional Camera Movement photos again, perhaps this time with redscaled film (again... it helps lower the EI, increasing exposure times). These people honestly do hate who they say. Not good with that.) But, responding in a more domestic context, yes, words spoken in anger are often honest... but also dishonest at the same time. Make it work, Chris, make it work! npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…hujc Likewise web forms that INSIST (sorry) I put the county in, when I've already put town and postcode. So which county is Edinburgh in, then (or Bristol, I guess)? Weirdly, it doesn't care, as long as you put something! npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…60lz Not sure all recommendations should be followed, there are considerations not within the purview of any enquiry to take into account. However, I don't know enough about pixelfed to help; I don't really know how to find other people, even. The few I found were via the believe in film hashtag... and they're not really active. npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…fef6 That is a cracking photo, Alfie, though I can't quite work out what's happening to the wires as the cross the edge of Fuji on the left? npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR Ended up with 5 rolls of exposed HP5 by yesterday, plus a roll of C41 finished in the pocket mju II. Way too much for me to dev, so it's gone off to The Darkroom UK in Cheltenham. Wasn't sure about the C41; I normally send that to Filmdev, who do excellent dev+scan for a very reasonable price (about a third of TD's!), but they're closed at the moment. So I decided I should get them done dev-only try scanning myself again! #BelieveInFilm #FilmPhotography 1/3 npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…f5su I'm just on the advanced web interface. At the moment I can't see a reason for it, but time will tell, and maybe I'll be back. I didn't use a starter pack; I suspect you might get lots there you don't really want. Just followed a couple of film related hashtags, most of which were populated with civilised Xitter types, and followed those I liked. Film photo community is quite small, so maybe that works better than trying something similar in the wider photography world. npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…y54t I've been looking there over the past day; the film-related hashtags seem to be quite civilised. I am an ancient, amateur photographer, almost exclusively using film. I take huge joy and solace in taking pictures, a little less in viewing my results! I have and use 3 Pentax cameras (including the manual, metal, mechanical MX), a pocket Olympus mju II, and a few others, mostly taking black & white. I do my own b&w development. I have an ongoing thread of "at least one photo per roll of film". #FilmPhotography #BelieveInFilm . npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…hujc I would entirely agree with you, except today has been effing cold and there's worse to come! npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…hlf2 Oh yes, I do like that! npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…y54t That looks fabulous! In this case, both the instance I'm leaving and the one I'm coming to are well established with full connection between them. After some help from @nprofile…2mn4 , I think it's just that instances may have different rules for displaying likes for posts on other servers. I'd never considered that possibility before. But I can see likes from many servers on today's post, so that's good! npub1mf56z6uatufkh3ve20d9mf5c5feah633upgpdh5jsvg9y3km5e0q08sqnm ChrisR @nprofile…4gjh A quick question if I may? When you look at posts in your timeline from folk on other servers, do you see around the correct number of faves/likes? Ie does the figure you see match the figure you'd see when opening the "original post"? I've just moved from photog.social to mastodon.scot (using advanced web interface). On p.s like counts match, but now on m.s I get mostly zero like counts on posts from other instances (including my old posts).
