Okay so here's the question: Do these DCs plan on renting space and filling capacity over time, or do they not consider their work "complete" until they are filled with hardware owned by the DC owner.
If they're "AI datacenters", then one would presume the latter.
The low number is 65mn square feet. So the question is how much sub-10nm silicon (square meters) is required per square foot of datacenter?
And then the second question is how many square meters of sub-10nm silicon is the world producing?

Oh I'm fully prepared to believe that they THINK they have that capability. But the thing is when you're talking about pushing megawatts of energy for hundreds of miles, air is not that cooperative.
And kind of the proof here is if they had a super duper space laser, they could just put it in Tel Aviv and burn up all of the hypersonics that Iran is firing long before they reach anything of value. But if they could then they would, but they don't, so obviously they can't. Which means they don't have that - and you don't need to worry about painting your roof blue, unless you want to.

In reality, this stuff is super complicated and I'm not aware of any country that really gets it right.
You might have an assault and battery on one hand, and a shoplifting case on the other - but the A&B guy is a normal guy who lost his temper, while the shoplifter is someone that is never going to be of any value to society whatsoever.
GENERALLY bike thieves fall in the second category, but I'm not going to try to define a rule here. The correct strategy is to risk model whether someone will ever be a valuable member of society or if they will be a useless leech forever - and then act accordingly.
And you don't even have to do some shit like Social Credit, you can just run over the past 50 years of crime data and determine the likelihood that a person with X priors and who did Y crime is ever going to be a non-criminal, and sentence accordingly.
Of course no country really does this AFAIK, either through malice or incompetence, criminal justice is typically a bad joke.

Well I guess the job doesn't want you either because counter-flow is by far the most efficient.
When you think about it for a minute, you can see why: Imagine you had a heat exchanger a mile long with the fluids flowing as slow as molasses.
With same direction of flow, the flows A and B are hot and cold at one end - but at the other end, they're both the same temperature.
With counter-flow, A and B are hot and cold as they enter, but then they're cold and hot as they exit, because B is able to slowly be heated up by exposure to hotter and hotter A.

If it's propane, it will lose a lot of heat and fire on the outside of the bottle will not get into it as fast as you might think so I'm calling it a drop. But propane is a liquid that is boiling.
If you flip the propane tank upside down, you don't lose so much heat from inside the tank, instead the liquid comes out and vaporizes in air and freezes everything in its path (ask me how I know)
With compressed air - which normally is like <200psi (and that tank illustration is clearly a <200psi tank) - you have a "small" drop in temperature but it's always a drop.

I need to shore this stuff up, I'd like to implement some form of #2 as well, but without losing the simplicity that is the "S" in Slufi.
And then another issue with #1 is that it then depends on the node announcing itself to A and also B, so that C gets the message from both A and B - unless A and B are sharing DSRs but in an untrusted way such that they double-check each others' DSRs... Which makes the DoS story a lot more complex...

If you scroll to "Security Analysis" a fair bit of ink is spilled on this issue. It's THE obvious one...
Now there are two mitigations that can help here:
1. Don't trust a record until you've seen it from multiple nodes, and you can setup whatever rules you want here
2. Make nodes sign messages so that if they ever emit a fictitious record, they have no deniability
That said, the slop machine is a little bit autistic here because the situation with certificate authorities is the same if not worse - there's so many of then any everybody trusts all of them for all domains...

Right now there are "instances" but they're really their own isolated thing because ~nobody federates with them.
If we can get SLUFI landed in a few of the major instance software, then it's very realistic to have actual "The Fediverse" instances in I2P, Tor, Ygg, Cjdns, Loki, etc.

Name services like Namecoin, ENS, PKT, ... are going to be useful here because getting a domain on them costs *something*, so it's sorta kinda like a 1$ ICANN domain, and that's gonna slow down the spam to something similar to what the fedi is familiar with.
And the name service / transport split means someone can register a .bit and CNAME it to their .onion and that will work.

It doesn't even have to be a *serious* issue to cause everybody to just knee-jerk an turn it off instantly. Look at how heavily blocked the Nostr bridges are.
A flat namespace of keys rather than a moderation hierarchy - a lot of instances will never ever ever allow that.
Even with SLUFI, I expect it's gonna be a big uphill battle to convince admins not to just disable it instantly, and even so, there's probably gonna be a lot of bans on *.onion and *.i2p...

A Simple, Lightweight, Unopinionated, Federation Interconnect.
The problem: While numerous network transports exist (cjdns, Yggdrasil, I2P, Tor, etc), and numerous name services exist (Namecoin, ENS, Unstoppable Domains, PKT, etc), almost all federation takes place over ICANN+IP because we currently have no way to federate across network boundaries, and ICANN+IP is the only thing that everybody has.
I claim that there is no possible solution SIMPLER than SLUFI, except with central authority or PRECIPITOUS loss of security. Furthermore, I claim there is no possible solution that is more secure than SLUFI, except with something like a blockchain and a PRECIPITOUS loss of simplicity.
So while I do not think this protocol is complete (yet), I do think SLUFI is the only realistic starting point for reaching a solution to this problem.

I love this line because it actually runs contrary to Darwin's theory AT IT'S CORE.
In short, Darwin discovered that species undergo random mutations which make the more or less evolutionarily fit, and some flourish while others die out - leading to an "evolution" of the species.
Concretely this means that any given mutation "splits" a species into those which have it and those which don't. If the mutation is eugenic, then those with it compete better, if it's dysgenic then it's the other way.
If the human species is subject to mutations, then it has "splits", which means there are different "groups" (i.e. races). If it's not, then you don't believe in evolution.

I'm a millennial, but I'm kind of old enough to remember when the "don't leave anything to your kids" meme was actually being seriously discussed.
The argument was that if you leave money to your kids, it's just gonna spoil them and they'll become losers. This was definitely weaponized to make sure reasonably well-to-do boomers would never form any kind of dynastic power - but there is a kernel of truth to it.
Leaving wealth to the next generation, without turning them into loser trust-fund-babies, is HARD. It's one of, if not THE central concern of Old Money families. All of those weirdo elite private schools where they molest the kids and don't really teach them any useful skills - they're designed to instill in rich kids, if nothing else, that they MUST conserve the family fortune. And even so, it is STILL shockingly common for old money families to lose the family wealth and end up as weirdos with a weird backstory.
But just because it's hard doesn't mean it's impossible, and it doesn't mean it's not worth it.

This is something I think a lot of Americans don't understand about Europe.
In the US - particularly east coast - there's MONTHS of miserably hot weather, like weather that will kill you if you stay out in it too long.
In a large portion of Western Europe, there's probably about 2 or 3 heat waves spread across the summer, and the rest of the summer is quite cool, like cool enough that if you have an AC, you don't run it anyway... So people are lazy and they're like "oh I don't REALLY need that"

Look at landlords in NYC and San Francisco.

I see what's going on, they have a RIPE based ASN even though they're a US based entity.
So, if this has an actual impact, the impact will be worldwide. But at this point they're still generally considered to be the owners of the ASN and IP address block and AFAIK routers are gonna still route unless someone screws with them.
That said, you don't really need your own ASN to host a website, just use normal hosting at a hosting company.
Second thing: If you're gonna spread your operation across jurisdictions, do it the smart way - redundant. Don't do it the insanely dumb way, where you have single points of failure in multiple places....

Lets see what they do.
Rioting is a good start because it's a public ritual acknowledgment that violence is going to be necessary.
But it's not going to force any change, what will force change is making the middle managerial class deeply fearful for their safety.
The top is easy to protect. If you can get them, that's a massive flex, but its an unnecessary flex because the middle is far too numerous to protect.
Secondarily, the entire regime is dripping with cowardice and risk aversion, so the moment they think there's a threat Out There and that they too are at risk - they will lean HEAVILY on their bosses to cut a deal.

Okay so these are lithium-air batteries, they pull oxygen from the air so they don't need to carry as much weight. Presumably they're heavier when discharged because they're carrying a bunch of oxygen with them.
The problem is impurities in the air poison the chemistry. So the challenge is getting the air perfect.
Currently there has been a lab demonstration of a 1.2kwh/kg battery with 1000 cycles of lifespan.
12kwh/kg is really just a theoretical maximum for the chemistry.
CATL is saying "this is the future", and since they're the biggest battery maker in ... the world (?) ... that probably means there's going to be a whole lot of R&D pushed at this.
So 12kwh/kg has not actually been shown by anyone, but the way battery density competition has been going so far, we should expect that batteries will cross over the 1kw/kg line in the decade. And given they're about 0.3 now, that's a big improvement already. Enough for short haul aviation.
By about 3 or 4 kw/kg, they're going to be competitive with jet fuel given the losses of a jet engine. At this point there will really be no reason not to electrify aircraft since fuel is dominant in the cost of flight.

Well, this company is claiming that their target is 75kwh per gallon of gasoline, and 1 gallon per day. If they can hit that then IMO they've proven that air-scavenging is not entirely ridiculous.
It's certainly not going to be as effective as shoveling wood, coal, heavy fuel oil, or literally any other form of carbon into a gasifier - but ... all of that stuff costs something. What it costs depends a lot on where you are. If the cost of burnable stuff exceeds the cost of the electricity needed to scalp that 1/4 of 1% of CO2 out of the air, guess which process wins...

Someone is doing the methanol process. They are scavenging the air for CO2 - I had written this off as too inefficient, but it actually makes sense because then you don't need to fuck around with supplying it with carbon.
If you're somewhere like in the arctic with airplane and snowmobile access only, being able to manufacture fuel is kind of a big deal.
The downside of all of this is there's a lot of chemistry going on here - multiple stages of catalysts that can end up getting ruined if impurities get deposited on them.
I can't see something like this working for more than a few months before it needs some kind of cleaning, changing of catalysts, maintenance / service / etc.

I need to work on cjdns OpenWrt, I'm not sure it's currently building. The objective was not to do cjdns and PKT, thought the idea for this device came from when I was looking for cheap/capable devices for PKT.
At this point it's basically just a big endian MIPS OpenWrt computer - but it's cheap.
