Using LaTeX for talks & teaching only for many years now. Has its challenges. Particularly in envs full of Windows devotees. 😊
Looked at Typst and found myself in lock-in situation. Converting complex slide sets and layouts seems hard. (Impossible with the free version which I tried, actually.) For fear of getting into a vendor lock-in - once I start paying for the essential features which seem essential to me - I rather stick with LaTeX/beamer.

Ich frage, weil ich welche vom Fediverse überzeugen möchte. Es ist immer leichter, nicht die ersten zu sein 😉 .

- "Code for Thought" (https://codeforthought.buzzsprout.com/) hat auch deutschsprachige Episoden (neben Englisch und Französisch)
- "Computer und Kommunikation" vom Deutschlandfunk (so etwas Ähnliches wie NPR) ist auch ausgezeichnet.
- "Raumzeit" erscheint nicht oft, ist aber gut zu hören
Da du auch Niederländisch als Sprache aufzählst: den "Scientiast" Podcast von @nprofile…rgur kann ich empfehlen! Umgekehrt: Wenn du einen guten italienischen Podcast zu technischen Themen weißt, wäre ich interessiert. 😉
Podcasts zu Sprachen und Fahrrädern habe ich nicht abonniert. Die genannten kann dein Podcatcher bestimmt finden.

Had a wonderful discussion at the #osr26uk about social media, the #fediverse and science communication.
I am a firm believer of REAL, venture capital free, social media. Yet, many institutions still refrain from posting to Mastodon. They cannot appreciate the different culture and this is an issue, because it dampens the growth of the Fediverse.

To be honest, I rarely look anything up on heiseonline (never commented). Simply for lack of time. Perhaps this is true for many. Many people rarely looking make some wiggly graph. Right?
If, however, you would be plotting a year-to-year comparison per month, the plot would look even more compelling.
The Fediverse is improving. Slowly. Not as fast as the enshittification elsewhere.

Eure beiden Accounts sind auch sehr viel politischer. Z. T. wird pointiert geschrieben. Das zieht sehr viel mehr als meine nerdigen Themen, das Sprachwirrwar, etc.. Ich verstehe also, wenn Leuten bestimmten Accounts nicht folgen. Und nehme diese "Recht" auch selber wahr.
Und auch wenn andere für sich zum Schluss kommen "heute nicht und auch die nächsten Tage oder Wochen nicht", dann haben viele hier dafür großes Verständnis: Detox ist esoterischer Unfug. Digitales Detox manchmal psychohygienische Notwendigkeit.

Ihr habt wahrscheinlich keine Vorstellung davon, aber: Eure Toots regen zu manchem Gespräch an. Und Kommunalpolitik ist so verdammt wichtig. Sie kommt in der Berichterstattung zu oft zu kurz.
Wenn ihr hier erfolgreich sein wollt, könnt ihr einiges verbessern – dazu haben andere schon kommentiert. Mit der @nprofile…3x0s und @nprofile…re4a ist hier schon viel lokale Wissenschaft vertreten. Auch @nprofile…ueyt sei nicht vergessen. Das spielt kommunal alles keine sooo große Rolle, aber macht auch #Mainz aus.
Auch wird mainz.social von @nprofile…ksgl erstarken und mehr Menschen ansprechen. Das Fediverse wächst langsam. Man braucht Geduld. Aber das lohnt sich!
Kommt bitte mit euren Bürgern ins Gespräch. Nicht nur einfach Pressemitteilung posten. Gelegentlich auch antworten oder _wirklich_ zur Disposition stellen.

@nprofile…ra5j Nathanael Liminski (CDU), Staatskanzleichef in NRW, hat dieser Tage ein sehr lesenswertes Interview in der ZEIT gegeben (https://www.zeit.de/2025/42/nathanael-liminski-cdu-kulturkaempfe-rechtspopulismus-usa - leider hinter Paywall).
Man würde sich wünschen, diese Einsichten zum Umgang mit politischen Kontrahenten würden innerhalb der CDU Schule machen. Auch er ist bei weitem kein unbeschriebenes Blatt in „Sachen Kulturkampf“: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathanael_Liminski#Kontroversen - es gab Zeiten, da konnte man ihm so wenig zuhören, wie heute Farage oder Weidel. Zumindest dieses Interview kann man lesen, ohne den Blutdruck zu treiben.

Und zumindest für Leute mittleren Alters ist das schon falsch. Denn die Klimakrise manifestiert sich in atemberaubendem Tempo. Aber auch die älteren Entscheidungsträger, die in anderen Berufszweigen längst in Rente wären: Hassen die ihre Kinder und Enkel etwa?
Was geht in diesen Köpfen vor?
Und: Sollte man diese Frage nicht mal laut stellen, sodass Umstehende sie hören?

Zu den Methoden gehört auch, B-Politiker/Influencer einzuladen, sie zu umgarnen, auf dass sie hier überzeugt erzählen, dass unter anderem lupenreine Demokraten keine Gefahr darstellen und Nord Stream selbstredend notwendig und keinerlei Bedrohung für Osteuropa darstellend ist.
Gespielt wird hier auf der Klaviatur der Eitelkeit. Und man darf darauf hinweisen, dass es lächerlich oder schlimmer ist, bei über Leichen gehenden Autokraten Egoboosts zu suchen.

Once again, Germany will get a minister of research without the slightest clue of
- how research is done
- how research is organized
- what the current issues are
- etc.
However, she has the right party membership and has already demonstrated eloquently being able to combine having no idea with a strong opinion (#blockchain).
That and the fact that we are still in an #aihype let me fear the worst. Mark my words!

I have been approach by an editor of #JOSS (https://fediscience.org/@[email protected]) who told me about #JOSE (https://jose.theoj.org/ - for which I could not find a Mastodon handle).
The idea is to provide a low-hurdle academic reward for open access educational material -- with a particular computational emphasis.
Thing is, that you hardly get an academic “paper” if you develop teaching material. So, this might be appealing for some folk here. 😉

Wunderbar, dass Du Deinen "Influencerstatus" fürs Fediverse einbringst! Ja, wir müssen viel besser werden. Auch in Deutschland, wo wir schon eine recht lebendige Fediversekultur haben.
Ich arbeite gerade an einem Vortrag zur Darbietung unter KollegInnen (an akadem. Einrichtung, also auch nur von und für Nerds). Vielleicht in einem nächsten Schritt mal als Workshop an der VHS? Wenn er fertig ist, wird das Ding auch öffentlich. Unabhängig davon, vielleicht eine Idee für andere?
- bei Mastodon müssen wir mehr von Communitys statt Instanzen reden. Und diese auch anbieten. Es gibt schon viele (mit Regionalbezug oder thematischem Bezug - z. B. Rollenspiele - wir bei "fediscience.org" sind auch mit dabei), das können ruhig auch mehr werden. Die Unis, die in den letzten Tagen mit viel TamTam X verliessen haben vielfach wisskomm.social gewählt. Für Lobbyverbände aus Wirtschaft, Sport, etc. böte sich das auch an.
- Das Fediverse bietet einen holistischen Ansatz (peertube statt Youtube, pixelfeed statt Instagram). Das gilt es mehr herauszustellen - in jedem Fall gilt aber (ich borge von der OpenScience-Pyramide): make it possible → make it easy → make it normative → make it rewarding → make it (socially) required. Gegenwärtig sind wir bei Punkt 1. Noch ist nicht alles möglich und bis jetzt nicht alles einfach.

Damit sind nicht alle Facetten adressiert, im Thread werden auch andere Aspekte erwähnt. Ich erhebe keinen Anspruch auf Vollständigkeit.

@nprofile…lgaq das ist bei mir ein paar Jahre her – und einer der Gründe, warum ich mich mehr zurückhalte (der andere ist schlicht fehlende Zeit). Es ist super, dass es so etwas nun gibt.
Gestern im Radio wurde genannt, dass 3/4 der Hilfe suchenden Frauen sind. Puh. Es ist offenbar wirklich bitter nötig.

I want to add a new GitHub action secret. It matches `[a-z][A-Z][1-9]`, starts with a `G` and does not contain underscores or hyphens and still GitHub complains:

Habe Grund zur Annahme, dass die meisten Familienbetriebler derartig aufgeladen sind, dass Differenzierung gerade nicht möglich ist.
Dabei wäre es so schön gewesen, wir hätten eine Regierung, die einen Übergang begleitet und sozial abfedert. Sagt, was notwendig ist, wo prioritär gehandelt wird und wo nicht - und der Industrie Weichenstellungen gibt (z. B. Alternativen für dieselbetriebene Großtraktoren), damit kontinuierlich verbessert werden kann. Gut, dass es die COP21 gab! 🤔

A few days ago, I could still see mating(!) dragonflies at a local pond. From age 12 (and I am about 16 a younger, then you are) I do not recall a scenery like that, but rather foggy, shivery autumns in the wetland area where I grew up. Lovely in their own right.
