no, but they do eventually need the gears cleaned and regressed (ask me how I know!) Mind you, this is the 30yo model; I believe they "redesigned" the internals and have a lot shorter life now.

“The Best and Most Illustrious of His Race”
The bronze statue of Trim the cat, Matthew Flinders' famous companion, located on a window ledge of the Mitchell Library in Sydney, behind the statue of Flinders.
"The best and most illustrious of his race
The most affectionate of friends,
faithful of servants,
and best of creatures
He made the tour of the globe, and a voyage to Australia,
which he circumnavigated, and was ever the
delight and pleasure of his fellow voyagers"
Written by Matthew Flinders in memory of his cat.

"I'm a Flighter, Not a Plover"
The Masked Lapwing (Vanellus miles) is a common and conspicuous bird native to Australia (particularly the northern and eastern parts of the continent), New Zealand and New Guinea. Despite the species being also known as the masked plover and often called the spur-winged plover or just plover in its native range, lapwings are classified to their own subfamily, Vanellinae, and not to the closely related plover subfamily, Charadriinae.
This is an example of the southern subspecies, V. m. novaehollandiae.
