That’s the reason in a tiny minority of cases. For the rest, the reason is superstition: some dickhead at company B saw such a login form by company A, didn’t know why it was done that way, concluded it must be for security reasons, made the team do the same, and told customer service to tell people who complain that it’s for their own safety.

If it can help, here’s my process for writing good shell scripts (and not “God Shrek scripts,” as my autocorrect wanted me to tell you):
1. Type a few simple commands until something works;
2. Make them a bit more complicated to reduce the amount of manual work;
3. Copy the result from the shell history and make a quick and dirty script;
4. Refactor it to make it easier to read;
5. Run ShellCheck to make it more correct;
6. Bin it and rewrite the whole thing in Go.

Re-reading my original post, I see why you’re saying that, I made a poor code of words. By “not missing anything” I didn’t mean Hollow Knight is not worth playing, I meant that I don’t think it’s a prerequisite to understand and enjoy Silksong.
I would be interested in the option of other players on this, though.

Hollow Knight can get very, very frustrating. So if you were to play it through in order to allow yourself to play Silksong, you might just end up throwing the towel.
Silksong is very hard too, but I feel like you get new abilities sooner and more often, the story is easier to follow, and also you’d be playing it at the same time as everyone else, it’s nice.
But maybe the hours I’ve put into Hollow Knight are affecting my appraisal of the new game.

Alors tu sais, pour le deuxième point, si même @npub1vc3…axsh ne verrouille pas sa session quand il est en home office et va se chercher un café, je crois que c’est peine perdue.
(Il a raconté il n’y a pas longtemps qu’en revenant à son bureau, quelqu’un avait tapé des caractères suspect sur son ordi, et qu’en fait c’était un ballon à hélium que le ventilateur avait poussé contre le clavier. Si je ne souviens bien. 😅)

“Why don’t people run their own web site?”
Recently I saw someone here feeling a bit overwhelmed, because they wanted to run their own web site, were advised to use Hugo, read about it, checked the docs, and reached the conclusion that they first had to learn git and how to host it on GitHub Pages.
I checked the docs, and there’s nothing about hosting it “normally,” with a web server and FileZilla. Just CLI tools and CI/CD bullshit.

If you have several machines in the same network you’d like to SSH to, you can decide to use one as an entry point, only open this one’s SSH port to the outside, and use it as a jump host to access the other ones. And if you configure it nicely in .ssh/config on the client side, it’s seamless.

I bought clip-on reading glasses. With them, I can now read the text at the back of SanDisk SD card packages and crimp JST PH terminals, but I still can’t read the legend for setting the mode on my SN30 controller. So I guess fuck 8BitDo. Assholes.

I hate when they automatically balance quotes and braces. I have this habit of typing ()←, it’s as fast as the IDE doing it (faster, even, if it’s a fake IDE written in JS,) and I can read my own mind to know when I should not do it because I just want the one character. Even worse is when I select a word, type a quote, and instead of replacing the word with a single quotation mark, it keeps the word and surrounds it with quotes. I hate it.

Apparently, I like to suffer, so I’m trying a new programming technique I call BAD: Blindfolded Arduino Development*.
Basically, I’m coding my firmware without being able to try it. I make small commits that compile, as usual, and once I’m home where my prototype is, I’ll try it, git bisect when it doesn’t work (because it won’t work,) and fixup the commits until it works.
I’ll keep you posted on how successful that is.
* I hope “blindfolded” is not inappropriate here. Let me know.

But I’ll never have the focus and energy to write it all before publishing it. So I’m thinking of posting bits of it here regularly, not necessarily in order, and not in final form. >>

– First tilemap (without scroll or flips) displayed by cheating on a reverse-engineered GFX, bypassing four custom Konami chips whose function and implementation were unknown;
– First tilemap using the implementation of the actual custom chips;
– First sprites, those were much more complicated than tiles;
– Drastically improving the sound by fixing a very silly signing mistake.
I know I sound like an excited toddler. That’s the FPGA effect.

FPGAs are really fun. And a bit magical too. I still feel the thrill of the milestones of developing Nemesis for MiSTer:
– First sound out of an AY-3-8910 from the Z80;
– The 68k CPU running a test program we wrote in assembly to debug the main board using a jerry-rigged GFX that could only display the contents of the palette RAM;
– The game actually running on said jerry-rigged GFX, playing the demo sound effects and displaying the same colour palette seen in the MAME debugger;

Here are mine. I also had Duck Tales, and the first Castlevania, that I traded for the second because it was too difficult, and re-bought recently from a shop in Dubai, along with Legends (but they turned out to be bootlegs.) Of those I finished Gargoyle’s Quest, both Mario Lands, Cyraid, Duck Tales 2 back in the day, and recently the first two Castlevanias and R-Type. I also played Paperboy and Tiny Toons from friends. Balloon Kid has gone missing, as well as a 1000-game multicart.

I completed the second mission of Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf for #MegaDrive. I first had to fail twice to map the secret items, otherwise you keep running out of fuel or ammo, or destroying civilian buildings.
It’s quite different in difficulty from the #GameBoy version. Jinking is basically useless to dodge enemy fire, but circling and shooting enemies is easier. The map is easier to read and less tedious to use, but the missions are harder.

I was a bit overambitious, I miscalculated that once you add the middle dots, it doubles the size of the grid. 😅
I like it because I can’t draw normal artistic stuff, I’m only good with geometric. I’m going to have fun with my daughter (8), and with my wife’s second cousin next time I see her.
