I'm a CS undergrad at RIT. I write code and like to hang around other people that do too. I also have a life.

Last Notes npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine Please are we really going to live the next 100 years with sql and json not accepting extra commas at the end of lists npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine @npub1km9…rh4n What are bsky numbers? Anecdotally I feel I see fedi more than bsky there npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine @npub1sg4…xslc What are some of the particular misconceptions you are seeing? I ask not just for popcorn but to also maybe include as "FAQ" in a potential future presentation on open-source to others npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine @npub1sg4…xslc Are you familiar with https://sr.ht/~mil/mobroute/ ? Not had a chance to try it out yet myself but seems neat. npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine @npub1sg4…xslc I appreciate you sharing that hashmap example, by the way -- that helped me understand how dead simple the algorithm could be way back when I first saw it. But if I hadn't had a healthy dose of data structures learning already, I wouldn't know some of the tradeoffs of that design, like not considering a load factor. With Hare, you both easily can and might need to understand your core data structures to get them to your liking, and that will require some general knowledge npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine @npub1sg4…xslc neat overall -- one thing: in the Go section, I don't think "lacks language-level support for interfaces" is a fair shake to Hare. Struct subtyping and vtable-based "interfaces" like in io are enough of a convention that I think we can say we have them, even if we don't paint over it like Go with a keyword to that effect npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine @npub1sg4…xslc Check IRC logs to get the literally most frequently A'd Qs. npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine @npub1sg4…xslc what would this site replace exactly? https://harelang.org/documentation ? (also grumble about the hamburger menu requiring JS on mobile) npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine What #music do people listen to while #programming ? Sometimes I listen to music but sometimes I can't really concentrate on anything else if it has too many words in it or if I like it too much npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine @npub1sg4…xslc @npub1sdz…75qz Honestly I bet also taking the time to patch all broken Hare projects to work with current stdlib would *still* take less time than building Rust npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine @npub1sg4…xslc Congratulations! npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine @npub1sg4…xslc Still enjoying occasionally contributing and writing programs in Hare when it fits a problem (or even doesn't 🙂). However, I think that the stdlib as a whole unit could use some more polish -- it feels like every other time I write a program in Hare, I run into some small inconsistency/missing piece of the stdlib that makes it more hard or annoying to express the behavior I want. I've tried to fix those when I've ran across them but it can take the fun out of it sometimes npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine @npub1sg4…xslc it's like a name in a yearbook. universal time, coordinated npub1mtgzty4m80tr2agjwqzs2pj8upn6lwrantq8nqrhtyh9g6ft0yvsdw8mgg Sebastian LaVine @npub1f6a…pnql You always retain copyright over your code though.
