I think the "Trump is just a dummy who knows nothing about the market" takes are lazy & encourage us to be lazy & let further harms pass by without action.
There are massive apparatuses with many people in them, that drive these market moves by the GOP who run the US govt now. It's not all being run by Trump. It's very naive to approach this with One Big Man theory.

He told people to buy stocks only minutes before he announced the new policy of pausing tariffs for 90 days.
The Republican Party is using our government and US stock market to conduct the most massive insider trading & racketeering scheme in US history.

It is definitely an environment in which insiders can play out pump & dump strategies, and Trump & Musk have both engaged in this kind of market manipulation in the past. So it has been my assumption that they (and the parties in the Middle East & Russia to whom they owe financial & other debts) are using their power to execute those strategies.
I also think that they are using chaos & poverty & instability to drive people towards authoritarianism across the globe.
Profit + power.

My aspiration is to redirect my own attention to whatever degree it needs to be re-directed, to the helpers. And to return to offering options for concrete actions, when I identify a problem on here.
Historical analysis of fascism is what I've done for over 30 years now, so I am not going to become a new person, but please always feel free to add to my posts, any opportunity for action that you know of. I will try to do that myself.
We can help each other that way. I would be grateful.

I say all that knowing that at the moment, this isn't me, though I used to focus heavily on practical avenues for action.
I am mainly offering advice to myself, I guess.
Also, analysts are important, so important, and a clear analysis is a form of action in itself. I can't do without [@tzimmer_history](https://mastodon.social/@tzimmer_history ), e.g. But we don't need hundreds of analysts in our feeds. It's probably better if we use them more like salt for the meat of practical action.

We can win, but we do need to focus our energies, & not indulge in comforting fantasies. (e.g. "someone else" is taking care of it).
Imo it's wise to give the bulk of your online attention to those who offer concrete practical steps, however small they may feel or seem. Join those who are taking action to help others, in any small way. If that feels too much today, believe me I get it: then do something to help yourself. Slice it thinner until you find yourself moving in a healthy direction.

And, one thing that you & I can do, right now, is to really look at the people who are making excuses for the vast majority of the killing. In this case, any fair reading of reality demonstrates that the United CEO, and his collaborators are killing way more of us. They make choices to kill their own paying customers, so that they make themselves & their families into multimillionaires.
We are responsible for the media diet we’re consuming. Imo this dye test shows who’s clogging our arteries.

For some people, literally anything is accepted to justify or excuse their murder, & offer a helping hand to their killer: a hoodie is suspicious, Skittles could have looked like a gun to the right-wing murderer.
For others, literally nothing is accepted to excuse their murder: e.g., profiting personally from a position of power & responsibility which the CEO used to intentionally cause his company's paying customers to die.
OK.

This moment is interesting to me.
It's a little like a scan that uses contrast dye to help clarify internal function of body systems. Some people are willing to show their immoral beliefs that help our sick system function: i.e., that some of us (most!) are marked for violence, & in their eyes, our deaths are pre-approved, unremarkable.
But a few big men are special, set aside as privileged from violence. Their deaths are un-acceptable, to be noisily declared unfair. Worthy of social insurance

I do have to wonder why he chose to go to McDonalds (one of the other guilty corporate actors/piece of the American health care crisis), knowing about the manhunt and the publicized pictures, and I think it may have been a conscious decision to have the arrest there. But I don't know why he would have offered one of the false IDs. That doesn't really add up to me. Who knows.

The other thing that deserves emphasis - though I don't know whether the manifesto writer was aware or not - is that the #UnitedHealth CEO was being investigated by the FBI both for UHC monopoly/antitrust violations, & his own apparent stock market fraud/insider trading in response to that FBI probe. Personal profit.
$102m in offloaded stock by UHC c-suite when such trades ought to have been frozen.

It deserves emphasis that the writer of the manifesto was raised in a wealthy family whose Italian immigrant founder (his grandfather) made his fortune off of managed care facilities, then real estate, country clubs, & conservative radio. His sister is a doctor. Their family has an obstetrics wing in a Baltimore hospital named after them, because they've given so much $. He volunteered at his family's nursing home. He's familiar with this business. His cousin headed Trump's MD election fund.

Of course there are the people who WANT to be disinformed & you can't fix that.
BUT, I worry that we can't fix any of this unless we figure out a way to replace the defective sources of information, with better ones, that people actually use. Mastodon *could* be part of the solution.

Mammal outbreaks of H5N1 are caused by ingesting infected food.
This practice of drinking raw milk will vastly speed up the process of the virus mutating to achieve human-to-human transmission. (If it hasn't already done so undetected, because CDC is not actually testing for the virus)
70% of a colony's nursing seal pups died during an H5N1 outbreak.
Guess what they were drinking.

I guess the thing that would be useful to me as a reader/researcher/buyer would be to see, in these "Best of" guides, your reviews and recommendations, but to tack on at the end, a short list of the products you would have also tested if you had time, possibly with a link to a decent review (if available) or else a short sentence that summarizes why this product is well-regarded/why you would want to test it.
Then I could do my own research/look into it further. Thanks!
