The tool I used for this is called Typesetter, which is a Linux app on Flathub. Kind of impressed.
I feel like that split layout style that the markdown editor Mou originated in the early 2010s has proven super-influential even if Mou itself is forgotten.

Happy to announce I’m running niri with DankMaterialShell. Still on Bazzite DX but on an experimental fork called Bazzirco, which combines Bazzite and Zirconium (a dedicated DankMaterialShell distro based on Fedora Silverblue).
Some quirks to nail it down but it’s a lot less weighed down than GNOME + PaperWM was.

Got Asahi working with DP alt mode using the fairydust branch. Not going to lie, I had been periodically checking the various Asahi feeds to learn when this was going to be added for a couple of years, so I’m glad it’s working.

What helped in Affinity’s case is that a community has taken steps to build projects to make Affinity MORE compatible with Linux. A dev actually created a fork of WINE to help improve its support. I would keep an eye out to see if there’s anything similar for Clip Studio.
To me, good scaling is important, which is why I tend to favor Wayland.

I think there are quibbles you could have with this. Why not full FOSS—using something like Scribus—or figuring out where Pandoc might be able to get you?
I think one argument I’d make is that the growth in Linux gaming has proven that people still want commercial apps—they grow the bubble for open source, too.

I had an idea and wanted to see if anyone has some odd magazines lying around that they might be interested in shipping off.
The idea is that I would do a periodic feature on Tedium where I review obscure and niche magazines, based on their editorial value and their design. The goal will not be to make fun of them (at least not any more than necessary) but to think through the reasons such a magazine exists and whether it meets that goal.

@nprofile…juvw If you compare the models, Canva is running a similar play with Affinity as Blackmagic successfully ran with Resolve—make a very functional free app, knowing that the money comes from high-end customers in the enterprise. The difference is not that they’re selling cameras but easy graphical tools for workplaces.

My POV, having looked at what they’re doing, is that the Affinity play is mostly a Trojan horse to get employers to subscribe to Canva Pro—not to shove AI in folks’ faces.

@nprofile…rhj8 I think the reason they're changing their tune is because of the sheer number of requests they're getting for it. Before the forums shut down it was one of the most prominent discussions. I think there's probably also a concern that the experience with Wine is good enough that it'll become a significant use case without them and they'll be stuck having to support it anyway.
