Hi Podcast Friends! :D
Poking my head back up to breathe after pivoting again. This time I actually was accepted to a crypto accelerator program called Orange Dao.

I don't transcribe every podcast, but I'll transcribe the ones you care about and let you know if your search term is mentioned and give you the whole transcript for every episode going forward.

Very cool discussion on Google LM podcasts on Podcasting 2.0 this week! If anyone wants to play around with a tool for generating podcasts that gives you a little more control I built a framework for this a year ago. This tool is built around creating podcasts based on feeds of information: Blog posts, reddit communities, github issues, news articles, other podcasts, etc. If you have multiple feeds of information you can make that info a podcast. I would say it would be totally legit to charge for it though because it’s a great added value service to integrate into a podcast app. Anyone could just use whisper directly to do the same thing for free too. That goes for most app features people charge for. There’s always a free alternative if you want to do the extra work yourself.

glad you’re enjoying it, I think it’s a killer feature too! But no there’s no limit to how many transcripts you can generate on the free version. Doesn’t cost me a penny. Only thing that’s limited on the free version is “Hey Jamie” requests because they require external LLM inference to complete

sweet! Yeah it’s written to the hypercatcher folder so you can grab it out of the files app at any time. It’s written as a .srt file so should be easy to find in there

transcription on device. Takes a ton of battery power so I don’t enable by default. You can enable auto transcription in your user setting. It should look like this when it’s enabled. You may need to reload the app after doing that too and then wait for the ML model to load too before transcription will start. But it should happen automatically in the background at that point.

No prob at all, I think more of the shows I want to highlight are actually found in the podcast index ranking. Looks like I can get the normie ranking by scraping itunes and daily charts spotify charts pretty easily anyway thanks!

Happy Saturday! I'm trying to generate a list of top normie podcasts from the podcast index db (expecting JRE, The Daily, Lex Fridman, etc) but I'm getting mostly bitcoin shows and stuff. It's not actually surprising those are popular on podcast index of course 🤣
Any suggestions how I could improve this search for top normie content though? Maybe I need some 3rd party data sources to join in 🤔

Just wanted to share something I've been building. It's a kind of centralized chapter management tool that I'm hoping will help podcasters include chapters in more podcasts.
While it's in auto-record mode it will turn clicks in chrome into chapters so you don't have to think about it.

The 3.0 update also includes local transcription generation for any podcast using whisper and saves the transcription locally to your files as a .srt document. The Hey Jamie feature basically transcribes what you were just listening to and then sends it off to be processed to pull out context and search for links related to the current discussion topic and send them back for you to see. It all shows up in the activity feed too so you can find it easily later. Hope you enjoy as much as I have!
