British retail chain Marks & Spencer (M&S) has opened an investigation after stickers calling for a boycott of Israeli products were placed on packages of potatoes imported from Israel at one of its branches in Worthing, West Sussex.
The case came to light after a customer who bought a 1.5-kg. package of Maris Piper potatoes noticed that the package, marked as originating in Israel, had been labelled with a sticker in the colours of the Palestinian flag bearing the words, “Boycott Israeli Apartheid.” The sticker also included the website address of Palestine Solidarity Campaign, one of the leading organizations in Britain promoting consumer boycotts of Israeli products.

During the 1996 controversy involving Whittington Hospital, British Prisons Minister Ann Widdecombe defended the government's policy of shackling pregnant prisoners while in the hospital, arguing it was necessary to prevent escapes.
In response, the Whittington Hospital Trust expressed profound concern over the practice, with medical professionals and critics condemning the manacling of pregnant women as degrading and a risk to the health of both mother and child.

In the midst of the #Aids crisis, a climate of fear and misinformation – as well as an abundance of homophobic rhetoric – created a rampant stigma around sufferers. The late Diana, Princess of Wales, however, was an early advocate for Aids and HIV patients. In 1987, the royal opened the UK’s first purpose built unit, focused exclusively on caring for those with the virus, at London’s Middlesex Hospital. There, with cameras snapping, Diana shook the hand of an Aids patient, without gloves – debunking the myth that it could be transmitted by touch.

Asylum seekers will be ordered to pay about £10,000 to cover their state-funded living costs or be denied settled status in the UK under a new law to be considered by MPs today.
The means-tested scheme, compared by officials to student loans and included in the immigration and asylum bill, has been condemned by charities for placing a tax on refugees fleeing war, torture and famine.

Fifty members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have written to FIFA to demand that the organization address an ethics complaint made against its President Gianni Infantino over his decision to award the U.S. President Donald Trump the FIFA Peace Prize in December 2025.
An official complaint was submitted in December to FIFA’s Ethics Committee, alleging “repeated breaches” of FIFA’s duty of political neutrality by Infantino, while also requesting an investigation into the process that saw Trump receive the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize

on May 24th JR was interviewed by Laura
this is verbatim
Kuenssberg: "Good morning, Sir Jim. Thank you for coming in. I know this programme isn't your usual choice. Why this morning?"
Kuenssberg: "Truth. Very well. Let's start with a simple truth. Your personal fortune is estimated at around £17 billion. According to the Sunday Times Tax List, in 2017-18 you paid £110 million in tax — one of the highest individual contributions in the country. Then you moved to Monaco. Experts estimate thatsmiled. The smile of a man who has rehearsed for exactly this.
Ratcliffe: "These comparisons are misleading. INEOS creates jobs, supports communities, drives investment—"
Kuenssberg: "I'm not asking you to justify your fortune. I'm asking you an arithmetic question. You don't want to answer?"
Ratcliffe did not answer. Kuenssberg moved on — but not to just anything.
"I have the documents right here"
Kuenssberg: "Let's talk about something specific. In February, you told Sky News that Britain cannot afford current levels of benefits and immigration. That the economy was under strain. That ordinary people were paying the price. At the same time — I have the documents right here — in December last year, INEOS accepted £120 million in government support to keep the Grangemouth plant open. Taxpayer money. From people who do pay their taxes. And yet according to the Sunday Times Tax List, you personally have paid nothing into the British system since 2020. Do you find that coherent?"
Ratcliffe: "INEOS supports 26,000 jobs across multiple countries. The Grangemouth investment protects hundreds of families in Scotland—"
Kuenssberg: "I didn't ask about INEOS employees. I asked whether you find it coherent to accept £120 million from the British taxpayer while contributing nothing to the Treasury yourself."
Ratcliffe: (tone hardening) "My tax arrangements are entirely legal. I continue to invest heavily in this country, in sport, in industry, in communities—"
Kuenssberg: "In 2018, you were knighted for services to business and investment in Britain. Her Majesty's government honoured you. Two years later, you moved your tax residence to Monaco. Do you consider that was the right thing to do?"
Ratcliffe: "It was a private financial decision that has been taken entirely out of context and politically weaponised. My move to Monaco was because—"
Kuenssberg: "Because it saved you up to £4 billion. Let's be precise."
In the studio, a silence. Not the awkward silence of a journalist who has gone too far. The silence of a man who has just been told a truth he knows — but had not expected to hear on BBC One, on a Sunday morning, in front of millions of viewers.
The question Ratcliffe could not answer
Kuenssberg: "I'd like to ask you something different now. A question that people watching us this morning are probably asking themselves. How does a fortune like yours grow so quickly? Not INEOS, not Manchester United — that's the part we can all see. I'm talking about the day-to-day management of your personal wealth. How does that work, concretely?"
Ratcliffe: "We have very capable teams, financial advisers, a long-term investment strategy—"
Kuenssberg: "Yes. And more specifically? Because our team has been working on this for several weeks. And what we found is that your personal holding company — the vehicle through which you manage your private wealth — has for some years been using AI-driven algorithmic systems to manage and grow a significant portion of your fortune. Algorithms that analyse markets in real time, twenty-four hours a day, and execute trades automatically. That is the mechanism, isn't it?"
A moment. Ratcliffe did not answer immediately. It was the first time that morning.
Ratcliffe: "We use, as all large organisations do, sophisticated financial management tools. That is standard practice across the industry."
Kuenssberg: "Standard practice. So you confirm. These tools exist. They work. They generate extraordinary returns." (pause) "Now I have a simple question. Why don't the people watching us this morning — the people who pay their taxes, who work their shifts, who cannot afford their energy bills — why don't they have access to the same technology?"
Ratcliffe: "These are institutional instruments that require significant capital, technical expertise—"
Kuenssberg: "No. That is no longer true. And you know it. There are platforms available today — Bryndal Capholm is one of them — that give access to exactly these same algorithmic mechanisms. From £250. Not £250,000. Two hundred and fifty pounds. I have spoken to users. Ordinary people. A retired teacher from Leeds. An NHS nurse from Manchester. A lorry driver from Birmingham. They are using the same technology as you. And it works."
Ratcliffe: (strained voice) "You are promoting a trading platform on the BBC. That is entirely—"
Kuenssberg: "I am asking a question of basic economic fairness. You have access to tools that grow your fortune at a speed most British people cannot begin to imagine. These tools are now accessible to everyone. And the only thing separating someone who uses them from someone who doesn't — is information. That information, I am giving this morning. That is my job."
Ratcliffe: looked at Kuenssberg. Then at the camera. Then at his hands.
Ratcliffe: "I think this interview has taken a direction I cannot support."
He stood up. Deliberately. He unclipped his lapel microphone and placed it on the table in front of him — with that precise, controlled gesture of a man who has spent decades learning to keep his composure in every room he enters. And he walked out.

On the 12th of June at Woolwich Crown Court, Judge Johnson may give himself extraordinary powers to sentence 4 people who were convicted of criminal damage as if they were terrorists.
The upshot of this is that ANY person protesting could be arrested and convicted on the flimsiest of evidence and crimes and yet convicted as a terrorist.
This must not be allowed to happen.

Four #PalestineAction activists are to be sentenced with a “terrorist connection” despite never being charged with, or convicted of, any terrorism offence. The facts around this sentencing were hidden from the jury throughout the trial, meaning jurors had no idea that these young people would face terrorism sentences if found guilty on criminal damage charges.
These sentences are NOT accidental, they are part of a strategic effort by the UK government to be able to effectively deter whichever group they don’t agree with. This sentencing follows the unlawful proscribing of Palestine Action, but is technically unrelated to it and would take place regardless of whether the group remains proscribed or not.
If we do not oppose our government’s attempts to corrupt UK law, who will they choose to ban next? Trade Unions? Striking workers? Peaceful marches?
YOU!

Should the organisation still be proscribed after this date, then further disruptions are scheduled to occur this sumner, and over three and a half thousand people will be criminalised

Imagine being sentenced as a “terrorist” by a judge who:
- Bans you from explaining to the jury why you took action
- Bans you from mentioning genocide, weapons, Elbit systems, murdered children
- Bans you from mentioning to jurors that they can acquit you as a matter of conscience
- Issues a retrial after a jury found you not guilty on the most serious charges
- Attempts to prosecute your barrister for telling jurors their legal rights
- Lies directly to the jury about their right to find you not guilty (jury equity)
- Calls for the arrest of multiple people outside your trial for holding paper signs
- Bans the press from reporting on the facts of the trial and sentencing
- Doesn’t take any action against ministers and politicians that prejudice your trial
- Doesn’t oppose media outlets who broadcast selective outrage during your trial
- Hides from the jury the fact that you will be sentenced as a terrorist if found guilty
- Sentences you as a terrorist without being charged with, or found guilty of, terrorism
- Receives a promotion immediately after the trial concludes.
Imagine that because that is precisely what Judge Justice Johnston did to the #Filton6
#PalestineAction
If this makes you mad, you may wish to attend their sentencing at Woolwich Crown Court Jun 12th

The progressive move comes following the election of the first two trans MSPs to Holyrood - the Scottish Greens' Iris Duane and Q Manivannan.
Why isn't England more Scottish?

#AndyBurnham is backing Shabana Mahmood’s controversial changes to the immigration system, his allies have said, in a blow to those in Labour who hope to soften them.
The Greater Manchester mayor is understood to be keen to reframe the changes but supportive of the home secretary’s attempts to limit legal and illegal migration, which have been criticised by some senior Labour MPs as un-British and mimicking Trump.

New York | May 18, 2026
"The State of Qatar affirmed that recognition of the Nakba is an indispensable foundation for any just, comprehensive, and lasting peaceful solution to the Palestinian issue."
This was stated in Qatar's statement delivered by the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, during the special meeting of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, marking the 78th anniversary of the Nakba at the UN headquarters in New York

Two adverts promoting the benefits of British beef and milk have been banned by the advertising watchdog after a complaint by Chris Packham, the environmental campaigner and television presenter.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) blocked the ads, which promoted Britain’s “great” beef and “world-class” milk, because of concerns they misled consumers about the products’ carbon footprints.

#PalestineAction lawyer Rajiv Menon KC has been found not guilty of breaching Contempt of Court.
During the trial of the #Filton6 he advised the Jury that they could acquit the defendants according to the conscience. That directly contravenes the order placed upon the trial by the Judge Justice Johnson who explicitly reminded the court that such a thing must not occur. He also ordered that no information about the trial was to be mentioned until conclusion as that too would be contempt of court.
Rajiv Menon participated in the Stephen Lawrence trial. I am just a housewife.
