I think what he’s saying is those people who choose to not eat meat contribute less animals being killed than those who choose to eat meat. There is therefore a feasible moral high ground for them to take.
Compare this to people promoting eating more meat. I don’t see a reasonable moral argument for this and because of that it ‘feels’ a bit like an F you to those people who are choosing to not eat meat.
I’m not a vegan or vegetarian, I eat meat, but this is how I perceive the current diet landscape in which this ‘carnivore’ diet seems to be trending up.

Earlier this year I read ‘Principal’s for dealing with a changing world order’ and I’m currently working through ‘Forth turning’.
Both are tough going and I’ve probably forgotten most of what I read already. One takeaway is that we’re very likely in for some painful times in the near future.
Being a natural pessimist this is easy for me to accept. What is harder, but I am coming around to, is that the economic and societal cycles will continue and good things will follow.
I thank my lucky stars that I found #Bitcoin when I did. The more I learn about #money, #economics, #history, the more convinced I become that Bitcoin will be central if not essential to prosperity in the future.
Even though they don’t know it listening to @npub14mc…frlx @npub1a2c…w83a @npub1s5y…6q7z @npub1s05…eyhe @npub1cn4…3vle has been huge in my journey into Bitcoin and I look forward to continuing to learn from them in the future.

Yes but not exactly. When you deposit bitcoin the mint will ‘mint’ ecash of the same value. This ecash can then be moved around (spent) within the mint with almost no friction. From my understanding if you want to send ecash to another mint that happens over lightning but I believe that is handled on the back end.

I think the incentives are different and I think that’s important.
Likes cost nothing and so can be thrown around with abandon whereas zap have actual value. I can’t see too many people zapping bigots and trolls for uninformative rage posts (at least that’s what I hope) which means the best, most valuable, content will rise to the top because people will be prepared to zap it.

Genuine questions:
Did these change because everyone has the right to own a gun?
Did civil rights activists improve the situation for black Americans through the use of guns?
Was the federal government stopped for outlawing pornography and music with guns?
I’m just not convinced that having the right to a gun is the panacea that those that are pro gun believe it to be.

Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.
When was an outcome better when one or more parties to a disagreement were hostile and aggressive?
It’s ok the have different view points but everyone can be better of if they have to defend their point of view from a well reasoned argument against it. Petty name calling benefits no-one, least of all the person doing it since they present themselves as someone incapable of making a counter argument and have to result to personal insults.
I honestly don’t care what you think of me. I’m never going to meet you. You have no impact on my life whatsoever. BUT if we can engage in good faith discussions about our conflicting points of view we could both be better off. Once you resort to aggression, insults, and personal attacks no one benefits.

1) humans are omnivores not carnivores. This is why we have incisors and molars.
Try eating a purely carnivore diet and see how that affects your health. A complete lack of fibre will quickly lead to constipation to highlight just one issue.
2) the statement that we’re eating less red meat than ever before is laughable. For most of human history meat was a luxury and difficult to procure let alone store.

Can you give any examples of countries that had a functioning democracy, instituted gun control and then ceased to have a functioning democracy because the state exercised its monopoly on gun violence?
I’m generally open to having my mind changed on things but having grown up and lived in several countries where guns are very rare I find it hard to get on board with the argument that guns are needed to keep a government in check. My lived experience just tells me that isn’t true.

This is a stretch. To say that because a believe A then I actually knowingly or I’m unknowingly believe B is not a logical argument.
I’m anti gun. I also believe that are are numerous systemic problems that need to be fixed that don’t automatically get better because everyone has a gun.
Take the USA as an example. Their political system is not functioning in the best interest of the population. Everyone having guns hasn’t stopped this from happening.
The same thing is true in the UK where there are much stricter gun laws but the outcome is very similar.
Guns are not the simple solution ‘pro gun’ would have you believe and they are not the only way to have a functioning democracy.

As a non American it still baffles me every time I hear someone try to justify the right to bear arms while missing the whole context of the amendment; the population of the US are no longer well regulated militia.
It’s not like all other western democracies have failed because their citizens don’t have the right to own a gun.
The amendment had its place in time but it’s no longer relevant in a civilised democracy.

This is not exactly true. Cooking food changes the bioavailability of various nutrients. That is to say it changes what is available for your body to absorb. Some nutrients will become more available some less. As with everything diet related, moderation and variety is the key.

I had a similar issue sending money to Sri Lanka. A transfer that used to take 2-3 days was missing for over 2 weeks which took multiple phone calls to find out where it was and why it wasn’t where it was supposed to be.
It’s easy to overlook the fact that there are a lot of places where the banking system doesn’t work as efficiently as it does in the US, UK etc if you don’t experience those frictions.
