I just want to warn you that when you order crackers from a health food store that are advertised as ''all of the crunch, none of the compromise,'' what you will get is ''all of the crunch, none of the flavor.''

Last night, I dreamt I mourned my mother. Well, it wasn't my mother, and it may not have been me in the role of mourner. I did not recognize myself. My heart had broken as if from a drought. There were other mourners too and we mourned our mothers together. I felt this community of mourners and normal feelings and beautiful mothers and feelings of devastation. #mastoprompt #drought #microfiction @npub1fle…xae8

My small apartment porch would not be considered a "Southern porch," though it is south facing and I cram it with many plants. The house in North Carolina our family used to own--eventually, it was devastated by Helene--was home to many memories on the wrap-around. I love all the authors cited above, and have read a lot of Reynolds Price. I had to buy this, either to keep or gift to an apropos recipient.

I'll be around Christmas Eve. If anyone is around, I'm here if you want to say hi. I don't know why I say this. Only to say, if you're alone, you're not alone in being alone. Or if you are with others, including family, sometimes situations can feel challenging. You're not alone. Say hi. I'll be poking around, saying hi. I work Christmas Day, but I'll be around Christmas Eve. 🎄

I told my son I wasn't giving presents this year, then I woke up inspired. 😆 This sweet album is my news alternative and brings me some peace. I don't have a record player, but if I did, this would be in my collection. I bought him Miles Davis Kind of Blue this past fall for his birthday, also something I would have, so this is jazzy album gifting saga part 2. I hope when I see him face to face over the holidays, I can get a feel for whether or not future sagas are advisable. 🎄

I went out on a limb and had a #vinyl record of the Miles Davis album Kind of Blue, a limited edition that is an actual blue record, sent to my son. I don't know if he listens to or likes #jazz, but I offered it to him anyway, figuring if he wants to explore, this isn't such a bad start or if he already like it, might appreciate having it. So, we'll see. It's also something quality that I can actually afford, lols, so there's that. 💙

I wish I could capture the face of the nightly armadillo who scurries around our apartment building foundation I meet when I am on my way home from work, but the beady eyes in the armature would be too hard to capture. Night creatures are sometimes quite bold.

I made this "viral tiktok caramelized onion pasta recipe" along with blackened salmon and roasted zucchini. There are quite a few versions of this out there, its origins being among Italian Americans somewhere in the heartland. I followed this recipe and didn't add the basalmic in the sauce called for elsewhere and decided upon eating it, it needed a touch of something so added it to the finished dish along with extra salt. Pretty yummy.

A family member asks me to pray for certain political leaders they know personally when they know I said how much I'm not for the head hancho of the party of those certain political leaders nor do I endorse the international policy these leaders promote. It's like I never said anything to this family member. I'd like to think the request appeals to my Christian generosity and faith we should pray for everyone, but I become suspicious sometimes it's about goading me. sigh.

In my married days, we lived at Andrews Air Force base in the officer's quarters and on Christmas Eve, there was someone rustling around at our door. Alarmed, we contacted the military police who ascertained that it was someone's mother, come to visit on Christmas, who in her demented state, wandered to our door to rearrange the decorations.

I took my son to San Franscisco when he was in high school. I was just a year out from my cancer treatment, and was so happy to have made the journey. One thing we did which was go to Alcatraz where Ai WeiWei was having an awareness-raising exhibit for artists who had been jailed or punished by dictatorial governments. And now, the irony that Trump is talking about closing the Alcatraz museum to reopen it as a prison...This was one of my faves: The use of facilities to house decorative flowers.

I did Outward Bound as part of a leadership development course and to make it up a 14er in Colorado, we were given a topographical map and a compass. Also, I love old maps and guidebooks. In moving, I gave them away. Maybe you can be a lending library for them if the you-know-what goes down.💜

In the ward, we ate along the lines of the American diet--carb heavy, super processed, over salted, sugary. Occasionally, we got a small fresh salad, a banana. But last night I was craving the biscuits we had. Not super great, but they passed the biscuit test--soft, doughy, salty. I was craving one. I found my way to some white bread product--Sergio's, a NY pizza joint close to Embry Riddle. Their ''white pizza'' was fine. Could have used more garlic, but I was happy.

In the aisles of the convenience store, the night manager is yelling about her, saying she needs to tough out her own training, to be left alone, unassisted. That is the only way she'll learn. The joy of it shifts abruptly, and she feels more painfully the numbness in her feet from the heavy industrial shoes. It takes several customers distracting her at the register before she can remember why she is there in the first place, before she smiles again. #mastoprompt #broken @npub1fle…xae8

I always thought I was a nature person and adventurous until, after dropping my son at summer camp one year, I drove up into the Tennessee hills outside of Tellico Plains where I had made a reservation for a tiny cabin. Most of it was through woods and an unpaved road that was flooded. (I had an SUV.) The GPS signal dropped, it was getting dark, I felt lost, and I had limited gas. There was a moment I truly worried. It was humbling. It adjusted my own self-perception regarding nature.

As Americans, and Westerners, we believe these things about being "self-idealized," which means becoming a "better" person by thinking mainly of oneself. Somehow, our interconnectedness can be a source of commentary when things aren't going well. I just think that is one way to think, but not the only way. That being said, we do have freedom to do or not do for others, which interestingly inevitably involves our doing or not doing for ourselves. 💜

I can't afford to move, either. This may be the year I give it all away and start somewhere else less out of control. I've wanted to do that before but have been talked out of it by relatives, one of whom moved out of state and the other for whom saw a decrease in her rent though I wonder now by how much. I don't want to hesitate too much and wind up losing everything. Sorry for the stress post. Sucks.

Orlando rent is super cra cra and no one in our nation or state has done anything to help the average person. My renewal offer is $2,300 for a 2-bedroom, 1,000 square feet apartment. I don't even live in an exclusive area, though it's nice and safe enough. I guess it's demand. The site says there's only one other available apartment like mine in the complex right now. There are more people moving here, mortgage rates are high so people are renting, and inflation is nuts. cont'd
