I like my sketches and I'm afraid I'll screw them up when I start painting. This is why I sketch on regular paper and trace onto watercolor paper to paint. At least if I mess up, I can try again.

We haven't set up a #ChristmasTree in years because they aren't ferret-safe & there's no space in the ferret-free area (living room). But I have a bunch of gifts for Mom, who's coming to my house this year for #Christmas. So I painted a tree to put the gifts under.
Tree was traced from a coloring page. I watched 2 tutorials and had a few reference images for how to paint. I'm actually kinda happy with this!

Book 11 in #TheWheelOfTime is Knife of Dreams.
I tried using masking tape to block out the knife, but the paint leaked under it and ruined the painting so I had to start over. I used masking fluid instead this time.
I won't ask if anyone recognizes the symbolism in the imagery since nobody ever answers. I guess the answer is "no" and I'm too unskilled or otherwise vague to communicate the intended plot points.

This two-sided #painting started as tests for the colors and technique. I liked the finished product so much, I decided to add quotes and borders.
These two quotes encapsulate how I try to live my life.
#watercolor with a splatter of white acrylic, plus black and gold sharpie for the border on the first side. I wanted to add gold sharpie as highlights on the letters too, but am too afraid I'll mess things up.

Book 10 of #TheWheelOfTime is Crossroads of Twilight. I usually use wet-in-wet for gradients but this time I tried wet-on-dry, hoping for more vibrant colors. That I got, but they didn't blend as nicely as with the wet technique. Ah well, every #painting is a learning experience!

Our last two deliveries have been delivered across the street. I caught the driver the first time it happened and called him over to my house. He muttered something about GPS under his breath.
Excuse me, maybe I'm just an Old, but the ADDRESS is printed on the box, maybe LOOK at it and compare to what's on our mailboxes and houses.
Guess I'm changing my delivery instructions to "CHECK THE ADDRESS, DELIVER TO (my number) not (other number)."

Book 9 in #TheWheelOfTime is Winter's Heart. I'd hoped to do this whole series without visible line art, but this one was really suffering until I retraced my lines. I'm still not super thrilled with it.. I have a very unsteady hand. But at least I was able to convey the three major plot points I wanted to include. Can you tell what they are?

The wound itself is looking much better. I was able to put neosporin on it again this morning. Thankfully it doesn't look angry. There's still some blood clotted in his fur, but I didn't want to aggravate him again last night, so Buu will help me get that out tonight.

Another bloody morning, but not my blood this time. Took Jasper & Onyx to vet for implant to manage Adrenal disease. Implant is inserted with a miniature harpoon. They glued shut the hole in Onyx's back, but didn't do so for Jasper. He keeps scratching it and re-opening it. Blood *everywhere*. I keep trying to wipe him clean but it's a fool's errand. I hope he stops bleeding soon.

I sliced open my knuckle this morning and didn't notice until I bled all over the place. Reached into the tool bag to get a tool and was like "why is it sticky and wet in here?!" And only a few minutes later realized I was bleeding all over everything. 🤪
I did notice the initial injury, I just didn't realize I cut myself open.
And now I have to replace the Band-Aid every time I want to wash my hands. Which is about 30 times a day. (No exaggeration.)

We did get letters showing 2 other people on our street and whether they voted, but the names and addresses were blacked out making it wholly useless. I'm fine with the premise though.

I asked Mom how she feels about still using (and therefore supporting) Twitter now that the elongated muskrat is trying to buy the election for the orange menace. THAT hasn't gotten her to quit, but her feed is so full of junk she doesn't want to see, and it's so hard to see tweets from people she follows, that she hasn't been on the site in a while. Maybe the site will finally get toxic enough for her to leave permanently.

Do you use Mids Reborn? We plan all our builds in there, even all my toons who will just use SOs. Like, I wing it at first as I level them up, but somewhere in the level 35-50 range I do an actual build and respec them. Sometimes I wait until 50 to buy any enhancements at all. :P

Really! That's so interesting! My husband often doesn't like to even play toons until they're 50. We no longer fire farm.. ever since they fixed the triple XP bug, fire farming is just TOO BORING. But we do rush through Task Forces to get toons to 50 asap. He doesn't mind exemplaring down for low level content, he just wants to "finish" his build and THEN play the toon. ;)
I go back and forth. I have my favorite 50s that get played plenty, but I'm also always rollin up new toons.

The good news: I found detailed instructions to enable achievements while mods are installed in #BaldursGate3.
The bad news: I had to restart my campaign again. I'd gotten 86 hours into this one (my good guy bard campaign), but was frustrated by all the achievements I was missing out on.
On the bright side, it gives me a chance to catch the things I accidentally missed & change a few choices. :)

Can anyone help identify what type of bird these are? The wing shape seems wrong for mourning doves (tho I may be wrong), and I don't see even a hint of green so I don't think they're parakeets.

There's confusion about #Hurricane categories w/some ppl saying recent storms should be "Category 6."
However, the categories aren't defined by arbitrary windspeed boundaries. They classify the type of damage you can expect from a storm.
Since Category 5 already covers "Many buildings destroyed, major roads cut off," a Cat 6 would be like "Flattens everything and makes it permanently uninhabitable" or something. Which ... we may get there! But not yet.

The line is so long that people are abandoning their carts with refrigerated items and just leaving the store. And of course Sam's club doesn't have enough employees to put all that stuff away before it spoils. Sucks for them, but this is a problem of their own making. The receipt check is security theater anyway. In their attempt to prevent theft they are going to lose a lot of product.

Buu went to Sam's to stock up before the storm rolls in. The line to have your receipt checked to leave goes all the way to the back of the store!! 😱
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Sam's club, it's always a very, very large building. You can't leave until someone at the door checks your receipt. It can make leaving the store a pain in the ass even when it's not super busy.
I asked him to start a timer to see how long it takes him to get out of the store.

You aren't kidding. Here's a sign I used to drive past when I had to drive into an office for work. This sign is something like 12-15 feet tall. The blue triangle at the bottom is warning that this is the height that a storm surge can reach in the area.
It's a very expensive area, but you couldn't pay me to live there!

My husband got his ballot on Monday but I still haven't gotten mine. They've never not arrived together before. One of his coworkers also received his ballot, but not coworkers' girlfriend. We're starting to wonder if there's a conspiracy to keep women from voting.
I planned to call the county on Monday & ask about it but now they'll probably be too busy (between Helene and Milton). I need to look up the process for how to nullify the mailed ballot so I can vote in person if need be.

Tampa hasn't taken a direct hit from a hurricane since the 1920s. Any storm that was predicted to hit us directly always swerved away and hit the places people fled to. So, will the Magical Protection Bubble hold this time?
If Milton lands south of Tampa, it'll drain the bay and flooding won't be an issue. If it lands north of the bay, it could bury the city in several feet of water.
Still safe in my neighborhood (GO ZONE X!) but a lot of ppl are in danger again. (fin)

Unfortunately people are still putting ruined goods by the street. If the county doesn't pick it up by Monday, Milton fling it all over the neighborhood. So mom has to decide if she wants to pay Handy-Men $300 to put up her hurricane shutters (and another $300 to take them down).
We discovered our new car starter doesn't have USB ports & so have ordered a couple more battery packs, just in case we lose power for longer this time. (2/)

Milton became a named storm today & is expected to make landfall in Tampa as a Cat 3 on Wednesday morning.
Mom's neighborhood is taking it seriously this time, many people are looking to get outta dodge. Mom already gave me her important documents, she'll pack up & come over herself on Tuesday. I now have a camping cot for her to sleep on. We put 5 gallons of water in her freezer to hopefully keep everything cold if she loses power again, and we're packing the freezer with water here too. Mom spent the afternoon over here so she could recharge all her devices and spend some time in the AC. She just recently left, I assume she'll text me if there's power when she gets home. I just checked Duke Energy's outage map and her neighborhood is now clear, so maybe she'll be good to go! I hope so!!
Edit: Nope, still no power at her place. Just a tow-truck taking away two of the ruined cars. :\

My mom's power is still out too. I keep refreshing Duke Energy's outage map. They've been working hard! Went from 390k customers out yesterday morning to 200k this morning.
I wondered if it was better to send out all repair crews immediately and have them work as long as they can, or if it's better to save some in reserve so they can start working when the first crew has to go to bed. I assume they went with the former since no repairs happened overnight.

Got my COVID booster yesterday. This shot has definitely been less severe as far as side effects. My arm hurts, but not so bad I can't lie on that side. My whole body aches, but not so badly that I'm rocking back and forth moaning. There were only a few jolts of severe pain last night. and I haven't felt nauseous at all. So that's nice. I AM deliriously tired though so I'll need a nap later. Glad I took the day off work.

IMO we need a Patients' Bill of Rights like for air travel. If your flight gets cancelled, the airline has to put you in a hotel, etc.
If I'm late to a doctor's appointment, they can cancel the appointment and charge me a no-show fee. But I can sit in the exam room for a half hour, hour, or more past my appointment time with no recourse. I'm lucky my job is flexible; I feel bad for people under (perfectly normal) time constraints.

This is only the second in my series of paintings that has no underlying sketch. All planning was in my head, I did no testing. This is probably obvious.

There's no doubt in my mind that he (and Biden, both) are showing increased effects of dimensia or similar. Trump doesn't have the excuse of a stutter, either. My dad didn't have very bad dimensia but there were definitely moments where we could tell he wasn't firing on all thrusters. It was terrifying when it happened while he was driving, sometimes he'd just start drifting off the road into the median. Shouldn't have been driving. Let alone leading a country!!

At my neurologist's direction I took prescribed migraine abortive (sumatriptan) for my headaches (not migraines). Unfortunately each time this has caused extreme nausea and hot flashes within 30-45 minutes. Severe enough that I'm forced to lie down. I think I'll stick with aspirin from now on. At least if it fails and I get the headache, I can still keep working through it. The nausea has me laid flat!!

Please suggest an #Office suite that's as good as Microsoft but reasonably priced?
I tried #OpenOffice years ago & found it lacking. I'm now using #LibreOffice and am consistently annoyed by it. What's a better alternative?
Example annoyances:
Libre Calc recognizes a new row was added to the table but doesn't extend conditional formatting, which must be manually updated.
I fought with Writer for hours to move a differently formatted section from end to front, fixed it in <5 minutes in Word.

- I want to share content from my desktop via text message. (I do this a LOT.)
- content is protected from being captured. (Amazon player)
- computer is protected & difficult to get content off of. (I take a photo of my work calendar so I dont have to email myself the screencap.)
- I also want to include myself, pointer movement, or something else not on the computer in the image.

Book 7 in #TheWheelOfTime is A Crown of Swords. This painting feels overly simplistic after what I did for numbers 5 and 6. I'm disappointed in my lack of skill, but will keep at it anyway.
I tried a plastic wrap technique for the background. It's a little more subtle than I'd have liked, I'll have to play with the technique.

Here's my take on #TheWheelOfTime book 4: The Shadow Rising. I definitely wanted to include the twisted redstone door frame and the glass columns. Initially I tried using a human silhouette as the shadow but it didn't look right. Then I got the idea of a black sun rising. I was also initially gonna have one of the glass columns be the "4" but I think it looks better with just four columns. What do you think?

Here's the second image in the series. Here is where the target audience will either get what I'm doing, or will make it clear that I've failed. If I've succeeded, the target audience can now name both images.

I've attempted to tackle this project a couple times, but this is the first time I'm somewhat satisfied with the result. I used the video linked below as tutorial. My first time #watercolor #painting without a line drawing as a guide. This will be part of a series; I wonder if anyone will recognize what I'm going for? It'll hopefully be obvious when I finish more in the series.
