@nprofile…l2x5 Granted, I don't have the time right now to watch the whole thing, but the initial impression is that this is limits with friendlier notation and the danger of my grad school advisors beating my ass, lol.
Still, I'm a fan of simplifying notation far more than they are, so even if that's correct, that's still an improvement in my eyes.

@nprofile…6huf This is what I get for being poetic and using the adjective "bad" in multiple ways in a single post.
But yeah, the message here was there is no bad (quality) art, only bad (values) art.
The bad values forms the narrow band I mentioned.

2026-07-14 20:48:16 GMT

- reply

@nprofile…6huf We could perhaps discuss the historical merits of art made by and for dickheads and the advancement of anti-humanitarian agendas, but I find the use of the word bullying in this context to be deeply concerning.

2026-07-14 18:17:10 GMT

I semi frequently talk about how art - broadly - cannot be bad because its purpose is self expression and one's personal appreciation for a piece is too heavily subjective for qualifiers like "good" and "bad" to be meaningful, but here's an example of something in that narrow band of bad art.
---
It's the fascism.
That's what makes this one bad.

There is only one solution: we must begin measuring things in gigameters.
A light year? Nay, says I.
0.3 gigameters.

Also worth mentioning that a parsec is yet another Earth-centric measure of distance.
"Woops: all galactic measurements are based on our specific star system."

2026-06-25 16:07:56 GMT

It annoyed me how Earth-centric the concept of an astronomical unit (the average distance from the Sun to Earth) is until I had the sudden realization that the concept of a light year is also Earth-centric, LOL.

Today I learned that not only does a fast-moving traveler age more slowly due to time dilation, but the world they observe also counterintuitively ages more slowly in their own perspective due to the same.
If a traveler goes 1 light year away from Earth at 80% of the speed of light, they'll arrive at 3/4 of a year in their own time, and they would only just be receiving Earth's signals sent at 1/4 of a year passed back home.
Incidentally, this realization also taught me that even if something is thousands of light years away, you could theoretically still experience it in your lifetime by moving fast enough - due to the experience of dime dilation on yourself.

Capcom being on this train doesn't really bother me. I just generally expect that every triple-A dev is in bed with Sam Altman.
What does bother me is how this just doesn't seem to matter to folks that are usually loudly against genAI.
It's literally the same use case as Larian: concepting and idea generation. Why is it ok if Capcom does it?
In fairness, I haven't seen anybody claim that it IS ok, but what I do see is a lot of averting our eyes to the man behind the curtain.

There's a ResetEra summary going around that claims they walked this back in an investors call, but having read the actual, dull AF slides from the meeting, they said that the perception of using gen AI is a brand risk, but they otherwise continued to talk about it positively.
Also also, it feels almost ridiculous to care about this while everything else seems to be burning down, but people losing their brains by outsourcing all their thoughts to AI is part of the reason why things suck, so

This will probably earn a "no shit" from people that know me, but I need a social cleanse.
The news sucks enough without folks indirectly telling me that I'm responsible for the very people I've been telling off since the age of 14.
I am Cassandra, and every time I've said a path is dark, we as a people have headed headlong into it while telling me I'm catastrophizing, only for said catastrophe to show up in rhyme about 5 years later.
And now some of the very folks I've always argued to be treated as individuals within their countries will argue just as vociferously against folks within my own receiving the same treatment.
And it's not like they don't have a point: they have a right to feel as they do, but I keep getting told this is my fault, and I struggle to think what I could have done differently that wouldn't have also hurt my friends and family or prevented me from doing more.
I can't keep trying to shoulder every ill I know of.
