that's why when i was hiring people, i would often just ask them to come sit in the office with me (virtually as it often was) and pair with me on whatever i was working on. no tricks.
if they were worried i was unfairly extracting work from them for free, i would suggest we build something silly together or try to get a PR into an open source project of their choice.

i had a really bad #code #interview last week because i was beyond nervous. i am really bad at coding while people watch me.
i'm thinking about some exposure therapy. i might try to figure out how to livestream to #peertube or #twitch and just repeatedly do codewars or build something stupid. thinking about it makes my heart race in panic so i think it might help.

I miss a lot of folks from the #identica, #statusnet, and #pumpio eras of the #fediverse. I still follow se but they're lost in the sea of other posts or they are in different timezones so I don't catch them. Other folks I've lost entirely and only have pleasant fleeting memories about them.

well that's lame. the peertube apps in f-droid let me sign in but i can only see videos from my instance. i liked that i could see videos from different instances on the official app.
discoverability is so difficult with peertube. i know the search tool exists for it but i mean with related videos across instances.

One issue I have with #retrogaming is that I lack manuals for so many of my games. I wonder if some even came with them. One example is my copy of #PES 2013 for the #3DS. I have the box and cartridge but I don't even know if it came with a manual new.

some context: i need to be able to share some schedules between my wife and i. proton calendar won't let you share calendars via mobile (totally on brand) and i don't want to use google. i intend to run it on my server at the house.

Sometimes I get a wild hair and feel like collecting for a #retrogaming system again. At one time I had a massive #atari #jaguar collection that I ended up selling for charity. I have a bunch of cartridges for different systems already and the thought of more clutter is annoying. Plus I have endless games available on the #xbox, #android, etc.

#sensiblesoccer on the #sega #genesis is so hard but so fun. I've played so much #eFootball lately that I thought I'd go back to a classic. Super fast paced #game.
I know there are several iterations of this and some are still played on the PC in a networked kind of way. It'd be an interesting rabbit hole to research the game a bit more as this is my only exposure to it.

right but your money is not stored on the device, that stays on the blockchain. i've had one fail and it was no problem moving to a second one. you just use the seed. the ledger only holds your keys.

Since I am consistently finishing level 1 of #dodonpachi resurrection black label arrange (albeit not always with a score or hyper meter where I want it), I figured I'd practice stage 2. If I have the optimal condition of max hyper when I enter the stage, it's survivable at the moment. I need to memorize some more of the patterns, though. you will have to deal with the annoyingness of the whole double thumbstick thing not being figured out for a long time. Most PS1/PS2 games with a first person view have incredibly frustrating button layouts because we were still learning what works.

Well I guess I've been out of the #doom loop for a while because I just learned about Legacy of Rust by way of the DOOM 1&2 releases on #xbox #gamepass. It plays really smooth on the Xbox but I think I'd rather play it in #dsda or #prboom. Guess I'm going to have to find the WAD. I'm sadly still on #lemuroid 1.15.0 on my #pixel 7 pro. I like the new UI in the 1.16.x releases but none of the emulators work for me in 1.16.0 and the #psp #emulator ( #ppsspp ?) crashes the app in 1.16.1. I guess I should file an issue. I wonder if it's a #grapheneos thing.
Ah well. I'm just grateful that it generally works and I don't have to lug around a stack of #umd disks.

so often I consider getting another handheld of some kind to refurb and mod but I don't touch my #2ds and the thought of a lot of physical media taking up space is tiresome. I mostly stick to emulation on my phone these days.
The PSP has a strong draw for me. I often miss my modded one.

I enjoyed zines a lot through the years. ezines were popular things in the #HPVAC community (things like #phrack) back in the day but that might not be what you're after. Does something like the #doom master wadazine (wadazine.com) or lainzine.org scratch the itch for you? They're very narrow in scope.
I'll be following this thread with interest as I have recently switched to digital magazines instead of paper. Please keep us updated.

Played a little #invader on the #gba before bed. One of the hardest #shmups for me because I can't quite figure out the hotboxes and it's not very generous with powerups. Once you die and you're on your base weapon it's a slog if you don't have any coins to buy upgrades. #retrogaming #nintendo

one of the core 2 duo macbooks running a really old fedora release that is basically used when I need to mess with my network things. Also an Asus eeepc x101ch running antiX that's my garage computer. Mostly used for viewing PDFs when working on various projects. Not sure which is older.
Also we just retired a desktop from my parents' house that was in constant use since 2008. It ran Debian. They used it for libreoffice. It finally died to leaky caps.

raystorm i'm familiar with and it looks like it was also called rayforce, which is vaguely familiar.
looks like it's available with its sequels in steam as Ray'z Arcade Chronology but sadly it's not playable on GeForce Now. There's also a PS4 port but my son has absconded with that console 😅
Might have to wait until I can get my desktop reconfigured to try it out. Steam currently doesn't work for me due to some weirdness from my tinkering.

All these #Nintendo #DMCA takedowns and their responses in the various comment sections feel like a lot of cognitive dissonance to me. People saying "fuck Nintendo" but they made the games. Also Nintendo is a big corp.biz behemoth and the DMCA is widely abused. Yet another case of "why can't people just be excellent to each other?"

I read something a few days ago about not charging your phone overnight and keeping the battery between 80% and 20% for its lifespan. I figured modern phones would have a good enough BMS to mitigate this but I've been trying to keep up with that.
I've found it to be a little anxiety inducing and I worry about emergencies so I just try to get it to 80% before bed or before I leave the house.

I have broken two French presses this year after owning both for over a decade. Glass is just borrowed.
That means I'm down to making #coffee in the džezva today. I still have a moka pot but this reminds me of my time in Croatia. It's a slower, more thoughtful brew.
Might help me cut down my caffeine consumption before the big tournament in August, too. I learned at the last tournament that I won't be able to have coffee mid-day so I need to be prepared for that.
