Well that was a refreshing listen. Junseth is the antidote to clickbait narratives and hyperbole. The way he speaks is like the embodiment of ‘fuck you money’

Great episode - feel like this is a refreshing steer back to more principled discussion and the reform shilling can go away.
@npub14mc…frlx is actually sounding pretty intelligent and articulate these days 😂 he’s come a long way since the early WBD days

This OP_RETURN stuff has really split a lot of bitcoiners I wouldn’t have expected to see on different sides. My 2 sats: if it’s paying a high enough fee to be mined it is not spam, end of story. Trying to argue what is and isn’t a worthy transaction is a dark road to try and go down. Check’s inscription of his dead dog on the blockchain (which he will have paid for) is just as valid as my random test transactions I’ve made when setting up a wallet. Before you know it they’ll say a ‘monetary use’ has to be above a certain value or something. Spam is data being relayed that isn’t able to be mined. Stop trying to argue the morality of other peoples transactions.

Very well said. No one gets to judge the morality of any transaction, that’s what fees are for.

Great to see a bit more variation in opinions on the show! I think Rupert’s right on a lot of things and definitely coming at the issue with a smarter perspective around building more resilience in our communities and not getting distracted by arbitrary targets. Some of his takes ( such as on AI and nuclear) were pretty awful IMO.
Climate change as a physical phenomenon is very real and measured, and ultimately the result is more volatility in the climate, which means more volatility in weather extremes. At the end of the day that is it. In my perspective it is important to treat as a key issue for the future but it’s perhaps in the top 20 issues amongst many other things, it’s not the dramatic end of civilisation that seems to be creeping in under certain ideological lenses.
It doesn’t mean severe weather events will get worse, there’s more nuance to it. It means that the probability of severe weather events could increase. Severe weather is already a risk and has been for all of our existence. We DO need to improve our resilience to them as a species, same way we improve our livelihood in myriad other ways with technology. As Rupert touched on, the answer is to focus on improving community resilience to all sorts of potential future scenarios, whether that’s increasing local energy security, local food security, local flood resilience etc, but not because of a fear of an abstract future of climate but because it is sensible and beneficial today to do that.
I don’t agree that we should be trying to get rid of fossil fuel sources in favour of wind and solar, I think as a species we should be trying to harness all energy sources as aggressively as possible. Building strong, energy dense, powerful, advanced civilisations will naturally make us more resilient to the impacts of bad floods or changing climate.

Another thought on cashu, seems like something that a large institution could use and bootstrap their existing trust and reputation. I.e. Apple could just decide to run a mega mint and make every iPhone have a bitcoin wallet that uses ecash, giving instant bitcoin payments between iPhone users (over iMessage, airdrop, NFC anything etc.) whilst allowing them to pay any lightning invoice and avoiding exposing users to anything complex at all. Instant privacy win for users too. The big trust trade off would be minimised too as people aren’t going to hesitate to trust Apple not to perform a mega rug, why would they? @npub12rv…85vg @npub1qny…95gx

2024-03-21 09:34:08 GMT

Just listened to @npub12rv…85vg and @npub1qny…95gx talking about cashu, awesome rip. Calle very good at explaining ecash clearly and honest about tradeoffs.
@npub12rv…85vg - not sure if you will see this but a quick question: How would an honest mint unwind/close? Would they basically need to wait for every user to send their ecash out the mint to another mint or lightning invoice? Or can they just decide to move everyone’s ecash themselves to a different mint and just close theirs?

When nostr becomes mainstream users won't know they are using nostr, they will just expect apps to be on the ONS: open network standard (nostr, bitcoin, ln/ecash etc.) which means their account is interoperable with everything else they use
